Because many people have no idea where the mechanical lock for their boot is. It's not unknown for you to need to remove the rear number plate to find the keyhole.

Just blindly say "FRAND" is what I think will go away, they'll want legally binding definitions as part of the standard. Since the standard is probably written by the current players I guess it will be in their interest to set these values high enough to keep out the new comers who aren't contributing to the patent pool.

True, but when the average punter goes and buys a PC then it comes with IE installed and nothing else and IE is pre-programmed to use Bing. So you could argue that Bing has a monopoly position. But somehow the average punter manages to change things so that they choose to use Google.

MS have spent gigabucks in advertise Bing, but the average punter is still refusing to use it.

Google don't have a monopoly, Google have a product that people are choosing to use.

Well you still need a state save and restore whether you're switching from usermode to another usermode or switching from usermode to kernel mode. But if you're going to apply that argument why bother have a OS in the first place, just run everything bare arsed on the CPU?

The idea of, well at least 1 idea of, having an OS is that bugs in something as externally attackable as a web server can't bring down the whole system.

It might be OpenReach or NTL that owns and runs the string that connects to your premises, but a lot of the SP part of ISP happens after that.

SIP over the Internet seem to normally give very good quality.

I'm using A&A as both my ISP and SIP provider. I can't say I've never had problems, but normally the quality is very good. I've had lectures I give recorded and the sound engineers have always commented on how good the quality is.

I have a VoIP gateway to POTS as a backup but the quality of that isn't so good. I hear a 50Hz mains hum on my end but the customers say it sounds fine at their end.

Hence the proposal to put it inside otherwise wasted space such in the unused bytes of the typical 64byte ping packet.

BTW rejecting requests that contain correctly formatted information is a violation of RFCs. If nothing else it violates the rule that you should be precise with what you send and generous with what you receive. Which is why the Internet more or less works most of the time rather than some of the more formally proposed networks like X.400 where so many implementations effectively sent garbage and rejected everyone else's garbage.

No what I'm say is that it doesn't matter one jot whether she's minging or gorgeous, she gets a lot of attention from certain types of people. No one feels the need to post that say Bernie Ecclestone is "minging" and yet look at some of the people he's hung about with, how many women would find him attractive if he wasn't loaded? As soon as comments are made about someone who happens to be female then it suddenly becomes open season on what she may or may not look like.

Surely the convex piece of glass should be stronger.

This might also help with some of the flexy problems that some manufactures have experienced. My old SGS2 would occasionally reset when I squatted down with it in my back pocket and I know friends who also had the same issue, no lasting damage,the phone just used to reboot.
