If I want to be sure I've hidden a file I do a copy then delete. When I'm feeling paranoid the copy is to a removable device which is then removed before the delete.

Ancient memories

Not really the same class of problem but I remember getting mightily confused by some 6502 assembly that crashed only when an attempt was made to access the last few items in a fairly short lookup table.

I eventually found the problem after many hours. I'd used ROR instead of LSR to turn the index into an offset. With ROR the 'carry' gets pushed into bit 0, and this was only being set by the calling routine for the way the higher indexes were created.

Confusing

I've been getting these to and find it very worrying. You see, I don't have a smart phone, and only go on the net with an ordinary computer. It doesn't have a camera at all, nor anything plugged into the audio inputs.

I can only guess that they have found a way to send ultrasonic signals from my (very cheap) speakers and somehow measure the infinitesimal change of loading caused by the interference patterns of my {cough} activities.

This already exists. OroboRox combined with Rox filer, gives a very close approximation to RISC OS.

I don't think it's being maintained any more though :(

Also, I believe some specifically RISC OS-like features were later removed because people didn't like them {grrrr}

A similar problem was discovered with older VCRs, which were then fitted with a dew lamp. This was part of a system that stopped you using the machine and gave a condensation warning. Trying to drag a tape around a damp drum would have been a recipe for disaster!

Sounds like a massive, risky UK.gov scheme, but let's not keep too many tabs on it, OK?

This is a situation where hard-earned experience come in to play. If I suspect a motherboard failure I will never put a new one on the existing PSU. If I had absolutely no possibility of a replacement PSU, I'd link out the soft start, and power the PSU up by itself with dummy loads (even once resorted to using car tail and brake lamps as loads).
