Raspberry Pi 5 revealed, and it should satisfy your need for speed

jason_derp

Would be nice if it becomes reasonably available

I'm still on a year+ waiting list through my country's official vendor for the pi4, so excuse me for not being excited that a new version of this little miracle machine is coming out. Will I even be able to snag one? Doubtful if current availability trends continue. Unless I feel like getting scalped like there's no tomorrow on Amazon, I see no reason to be excited about the existence of a new (potentially chronically underavailable) Raspberry Pi until the current supply issues are sorted out.

Ubuntu Advantage is being wired deeper into the distro

Debian makes things a little harder than neccessary compared to some of the downstream OSes IMO. I get that it's usually part of the legality/philosophy they have, but I don't see why installation of Debian as opposed to Mint Debian on my laptop should be such a hassle and contain graphical problems that make it unusable before it's even done booting.

Guess the most common password. Hint: We just told you

jason_derp

Re: What!?

I adapted my handwriting so every character is unlike every other character for this very reason. I have loopy lowercase ells, a slash through my sevens, little serifs for my v's and u's, etc. On top of that, I overline the letter if its uppercase, underline if its lowercase, put an "s" if its a symbol underneath, and an octothorp if its a number. Has enough rigor that I get by now when I have to write down a password for somebody else.

Re: Stats

I really wish I could remember/find where I saw this stat, so take it with a boulder of salt: ~11% of employed and retired people have worked at a job they liked. Not even currently work, worked. Absurd.

Re: He protected his boss from legal problems IMHO..

Honestly, it hardly seems like it matters. All legal speculation aside, a company will take you to court out of pettiness should they feel like it, and facts hardly win a case in most situations.

Two sides of the digital coin: Ill-gotten gains in cryptocurrencies double, outpaced by legit use – report

jason_derp

Crypto is for crime...

...but not all crime is trafficking drugs and kids. Sometimes you want to buy something the government refuses to allow for sale, and crypto is a way to do that. If the government hates that so much, let me buy the things I want. It's not as though most of hte things I legally buy don't have associated costs in human life and suffering. Maybe governments should gtf over themsleves a little and realize that the differences between buying 2g of cocaine and 2 bluetooth headphones online affect them the exact same amount, and the only people who care are them and other busybodies who seem dead set on telling people how to live their lives.

There will be two or five stories about some creepy stuff happening with the device, but you'd get those whether it was full of smartphone parts or was just a solid hunk of plastic. Re: Dumb Politicians, Crypto and Lobbysts

"Now they can't talk to politicians."

They appear to have done a shit job before cryptocurrencies ever existed.

jason_derp

I don't understand the big deal

I use it as shorthand for both. Lots of acronyms mean two different things, and I've gotten along fine with those. Nobody is unnecessarily put out, attacked, or offended by using it for both, so fuck it. If it's not clear with context, isn't that a good thing? Doesn't that mean cryptocurrencies are more in tune with the cryptography part of their name, then? Seems like people being angry because they're so used to be angry they can't help but turn their personal preference towards something into an issue we all have to be a part of, unfortunately.

GPU makers increasingly disengage from crypto miners

jason_derp

Re: "more troublesome than real money without any real advantage"

Another inherent problem with crypto: KYC regulations making it very easy for the government to be able to trace it (unless you're a miner). All the advantages of crypto are getting stripped away by governments because those advantages were things the government could never compete with.

I want to win a race, but I don't want to have to train and run faster than the other guy. What do I do? Beat his f*cking shins to mince with a breaker bar. It's not the most elegant or sportsman like solution, but then again, governments have never seemed particularly fond of those when something so overtly threatens part of them.

Activision shareholders demand Kotick's head after CEO 'failed' to take claims of staff sex assault seriously
