Good news: Neural network says 11 asteroids thought to be harmless may hit Earth. Bad news: They are not due to arrive for hundreds of years

Re: Knowing our luck

Yup, all of these scattered all over the world will go up simultaneously. No.

Garbage

Garbage in, garbage out. Labelling something "neural network" doesn't make it smarter or more accurate as it's still programmed by humans with human assumptions. Then if the data fed in is also fictitious, you are bound to get useless results.

Voyager 2 gets back to sciencing while 'unstoppable' Iran promises world more 'Great Iranian Satellites'

EarthCitizen

Cheap shots at Iran's expense. Expect if any other country was subject to draconian sanctions it would also struggle with its space program.

As for Iran using Russian technology - so has the US, it was the only way it could service the ISS. That and theft of Nazi technology and German scientists after WW2.

Re: $deities have a sense of humor

You've focussed on the finance, what about the energy, do they not reduce your dependence on fossil fuels, even slightly? Surely it must be worth it from that point of view? Perhaps your predecessor was selfless and farsighted.

Re: How entanglement really works, how to prove it

You fail. People are entitled to their opinions, even if they are flat earthers or brexiteers. This is the register not a science journal.

Re: How entanglement really works, how to prove it

You image (a) "photons" whenever you open your eyes and see! Vision depends on the eye processing photons. As for "photographing photons" that's another story - we don't have the ability to photograph electrons or even atoms, particles many times bigger than photons.

EarthCitizen

Do these scientists lack imagination? Why does every new ground breaking discovery have to resemble,a donut?

Anyone can set up two leds and photograph them being on simultaneously - does that prove "entanglement"? It would take more than a single smudged donut photograph to prove entanglement.

The European Space Agency is going to visit a new comet in 2028. Which one? We haven't discovered it yet

Re: Artist's concept of a comet travelling towards the inner Solar System.

And you need to learn/understand the practicalities of drawing astronomical objects and distances to scale. Your screen would need to be the size of 100 football fields. So, get real! It's only an artistic impression.

Re: Atheist vs. Bigot?

New born babies, whatever their "theist" beliefs, rarely have an intelligent conversation with college students. So your point is rather inaccurate. Maybe the OP lead a very sheltered life and didn't go out much beyond the monastery walls prior to going to college? ;-)

New Horizons probe reveals Ultima Thule is huge, spinning... chicken drumstick?

Re: Alice

Surely the only "alien probes" would be those aimed at Uranus (allegedly, according to popular Hollywood mythology).

Ancient but not unchanged

This is great and a leap for science. Brilliant and look forward to seeing the images.

But why are these rocks in space described as "ancient" and "unchanged" that could "explain how the solar system was formed". Sorry, but the Earth is also 4+ billion years old and these rocks experience bombardment by other rocks and solar particles and radiation as well as interstellar radiation, so they can hardly be described a "primeval" and as "when the solar system was formed". Yes, they won't have experienced weathering like the Earth does, but still, it is a mistake to assume that they are essentially unchanged. The other thing is that conditions in the Kuiper belt may not be anything like the conditions the Earth experienced in its formation.

US bitcoin bomb threat ransom scam looks like a hoax say FBI, cops

If these crimes are threatening to explode bombs unless paid then they are by definition "terrorists" in spite of their disclaimer.

There have been no transactions, so there is nothing to "strip".

No, that Sunspot Solar Observatory didn't see aliens. It's far more grim

Re: Unconvinced

I've seen Men in Black and have seen how innocuous looking janitors can really be Aliens in disguise armed to their alien teeth... 4 puny human agents will be nothing to them.

EarthCitizen

Re: Unconvinced

Are you suggesting that all the janitors are potentially abusing the telescopes to look at alien child pron? Wow the mind boggles.
