Unstable fighter aircraft go back to the very beginning of armed flight. The Sopwith Camel was unstable but was very successful, even though it killed about a quarter of those learning to fly it, whereas the BE12 was stable and useless.

Even worse, the bombes only generated possible settings for the Enigma machines, they were not infrequently wrong. The decryption was done on British made improvements of the Enigmas.

Simple book codes, if only used once would be unbreakable even then. Without foreknowledge of the book in question and where in the book the encryption starts they are totally unbreakable.

What did thiat teacher use for intelligence? When I was growing bacteria in clinical laboratories the plates had to be opened. It did not matter what the bacteria were it was quite safe, even culturing typhoid (Salmonella typhi, now enteriditis var typhi) or T.B. We even at times smelt the cultures at close range as an aid to identification.
