Peak smartphone? Phone fatigue hits Western Europe hard

onefang

"Slightly better screen resolution which is wasted because you couldn't see the pixels on the S6, or even on the S5, unless you held it to your nose."

Not wasted if you slip it into a VR headset. Though basically that's holding it to your nose and looking at the screen through lenses.

"Still holding out on an ancient S3."

Alas my ancient S3 died last year, to be replaced by a Moto Z. I currently have no plans to replace that until it dies.

"As I keep saying, this is not a gender problem. It's a (lack of) proper behaviour problem. Today the bullies chose women as targets, tomorrow it will be redheads, next people who wear glasses. You need to go after the root problem."

With it being legally forbidden for bigots to be bad to the big groups, bigots have to find smaller groups to be nasty to. Can't discriminate against non males, non whites, so instead discriminate against barefoot men with long fingernails that don't like to wear suits, but only if they are white.

I guess that's better than flushing entire babies as mentioned in the article. You gotta unwrap them first before disposing of them.

Re: We need some ...

/me just shakes my head at all the germophobes. Learn to live with dirt and micro organisms, it'll make your immune system much healthier. You'd die without a large collection of micro organisms living in your body.

Re: We need some ...

"My experience talking with premises staff is that the most disgusting and unusual things tend to happen in the ladies toilets."

My experiences checking the toilets at the end of the night in a cinema I used to work at, and my girl friend the cleaner, concur.

onefang

Re: We need some ...

"And Dabbs, even five months old don't flush away easily on a standard UK toilet. Anything older than that only when chopped up. Needs specific instructions?"

I'm left wondering why Dabbs doesn't like the younger children. Did one of them keep him awake, throw up on his back, and cover his expensive carpet with stewed apples? Young children tend to do some evil things, but you have to keep them until they can drive away without help. Children are for life, not just for Christmas, unless you are an uncle, then you can give them back after the presents are unwrapped.

Re: We need some ...

"telling guys not to piss all over the toilet seat"

Where I live we have shared toilet facilities. The guy that pisses all over the seat is a good excuse to leave the seat up, coz if he's too lazy to lift the seat, he'll be too lazy to drop it so he can piss all over it. He still pisses all over the floor. And don't get me started on the skidmarks on the front of the bowl.

Hmm, my smart phone uses OLED, where the D stands for Diode, and has 2560 x 1440 pixels, and each pixel made up of three of these diodes. That's a shit load of diodes. No idea if these new diodes are any good as displays.

Systemd-free Devuan Linux looses version 2.0 release candidate

onefang

Re: I don't understand...

"Devuan looks interesting, but last time I checked the Devuan repositories didn't have a lot of the packages I use on Debian."

Devuan repositories use Debian repositories as their upstream. The mirrors either host all of Debian as well as all of Devuan, or use rewrite rules to redirect you to Debian servers for the stuff that is not in Devuan. It should all be there. Which packages that you use are not there?

Sure some things that rely on systemd that the Devuan developers haven't managed to remove that dependency are likely to be blacklisted, but if that's the sort of package you need, you might as well use a distro that uses systemd. I don't think there are many of those.

Usually one of the first things I do to my new computers is install Midnight Commander on it. Currently the computing devices sitting on my desk are - Linux desktop, Mac desktop, Windows desktop, Android phone, dumb phone, PlayStation 3, and an embedded device I sometimes get paid to work on. The only one of those without Midnight Commander on it is the dumb phone, coz you can't install software on it.
