Stern Vint Cerf blasts techies for lackluster worldwide IPv6 adoption

onefang

Re: Meh

"I've been running servers out of my home for decades without my ISP's permission. Their NAT doesn't stop that."

My ISP just lets people run home servers if they want, you don't have to ask permission, and they have an opt-out firewall. Which I opted out of, coz it blocks the servers I want to run. A small extra charge if you want a static IP, no extra charge for IPv6.

You've seen something that approaches real world accuracy in sci-fi and police TV?

onefang

Re: New unit of measurement

I can't fit all the IPv4 addresses in my smartphone, coz I do block adverts and such. Though there is no such filter on my dumbphone, I don't use it for any Internet type stuff. On the other hand, the ISP my dumbphone is using has been offering IPv6 to it's costumers for many years, the ISP on the smartphone not so much.

BlackBerry Key2: Clickier, nippier, but how many people still want a QWERTY?

Re: I don't even want a querty OSK

You can write keyboard apps, at least for Android. Don't think I've ever seen an Android T9 app, but I haven't looked.

Re: "but how many people still want a QWERTY?"

Nah, gimme a Dvorak instead.

It's on the outside, and rather high up. Do you flop it over your waist band before tucking it into the holster? Do you need to tattoo pixelations on it before going out in public? Do high tech Japanese wonderbogs have special robotic fixtures to deal with it?

Motorola Mods its global workforce

onefang

"Speaking as a product designer, their Mod implementation is very good, with the mounting mechanism having no real downside when not in use ( compare to LG's modular system that meant the phone wasn't water proof)."

The Moto Mod system and phones are not water proof either, merely water resistant. I think that's the problem with having exposed electronic connectors in a modular system, hard to make them water proof, coz water's gonna short out the pins.

I read that part of the article to mean that the Earths equator is a lot closer to the sun, than Jupiters equator.

Yeah, that's what I thought the rules where to, so imagine my surprise.

onefang

Re: Counter intuitive

Yet if you have an ABN, with turnover less than $75,000, don't register for GST, and you don't turn in your BAS, then you no longer have a valid ABN after X years. Like I said, I found out the hard way. Could be that they have since changed the rules, I no longer care.

onefang

Re: Counter intuitive

"In this case it probably moot because I doubt Mrs Diogenes turns over more than $75,000 (excluding GST for some reason) so she should not be registered for GST, submitting a Business Activity Statement or remitting any money."

If she has an ABN she'll have to submit the BAS paper work. I found that out the hard way.

Re: Shite

"If you don't have a Linkdin profile, one will be automatically created for you based on your Github data."

Hmmm, that'll be interesting. Before I requested LinkedIn to delete my profile, I had changed my name to "Deleted User", and since then I've been getting emails from LinkedIn addressed "Dear Deleted". Right up to the last one a month or three ago that threatened to actually delete my account if I didn't agree to their new terms of service. I wonder if they did?

If I change my GitHub name to "Fuckoff Microsoft", and delete everything else, will there be an unholy marriage of Deleted User and Fuckoff Microsoft? Will I end up being Deleted Microsoft, or Fuckoff User?

Re: Windows 10 Fall Creators Update

"The word fall makes no sense fail does so fail creators it is"

Considering that "fall" is meant to be a synonym for "autumn", and autumn falls on entirely different parts of the year depending on where you are on the planet, not to mention some places only have two seasons (called wet and dry in Darwin at least), yeah "fall" makes no sense if it's trying to refer to a specific time of year. I'll go with "fail' to. Microsoft, creators of fail.
