I was going to suggest that for every snippet of 'real' info about people, any company that stores your data is required to store 100x as much fake data. In the hope that this might make these companies rethink their delusion/craving that everyone's privacy and information is their entitled right.

Tell that to the 4kw of solar panels on my roof combined with 15kwh of battery storage. In March alone , we generated 310kwh and used 298kwh of it directly 3 times in March we ran the house entirely from the system for 48 to 75hrs. We averaged 10kwh of generation per day. We use an avg of 14-15kwh a day.

Last year, it saved us over 3000kwh on a the same 4kw panels and only a 5kwh battery, plus we exported 1100kwh... We still imported 2200kwh of energy though, which is why I tripled the battery storage. So far, the data I'm seeing means that as soon as we have good weather, we can get our energy import down to near zero*. Even on a wet day like today, we still generate 4-5kwh.

Last year we generated in excess for 4000kwh of energy, roughly an average of 11kwh per day.

*Zero is an arbitrary term, there will always be a tiny trickle as the inverter switches from solar/battery/grid depending on the load. These switches mean that for up to 10seconds at a time, it might draw directly from the grid instead of the battery/solar. Over a 75hr period a couple of weeks ago, this meant we imported 1.5kwh of energy.

Depending on what app you use for mastodon or if you use a desktop browser for it... there's settings to hide your followers, make posts private to only those mentioned or only to your followers.

I'd like to see groups added. One of the things I liked about google+ was the circles you could create for followers. I'd have music groups for people who I liked to talk and share music with... movie&tv circles. An inner circle where I'd share things I didn't want out in the public streams.

That kind of upgrade would be nice.

I see threads going on about 'quote posts'... there's a lot of us that don;t actually want that feature. Not unless there's a feature to block the ability for anyone to quote post it like you can stop a post being boosted. A lot of the issues with quote posting is when people do so, purely to pile on hate and abuse towards/about people. The fedi has become a safe space for a lot of minority groups who no longer feel safe anywhere else... anything that endangers that needs to be stopped in it's tracks.

I actually have very few apps installed on my phoned... aside from one for accessing Mastodon and a few messaging apps signal/telegram/whatsapp (the last one for family who refuse to use anything else), amazon, ebay, netflix and a couple of apps for my heating and solar/battery system.... banking apps, google wallet and the kindle app (for my own books, not bought through amazon)

I check what permissions are required before installing, don't install stuff filled with ads or that need excessive permissions, I use the duckduckgo privacy app to block tracking and so forth from other apps... I have a music app for listening to music (no streaming for me) and an app to connect to my Emby mediaserver.

It's a pretty small number of apps when I look at what others have... most have at least 6-10 times as many... and most of them aren't used but still allowed to track and harvest their data.
