VPN logs helped unmask alleged 'net stalker, say feds

nickx89

Good call from the part of VPN company.

IMO, it was a good move from the side of VPN company if they were obliged to act due to any court order. There's one less criminal in the street. It's not necessary that if they kept logs of one person, they would keep of others too. So, it's just a hype people are creating instead of seeing the bigger picture. Additionally, they have clear log policy on abusive use of the service. People should read privacy policy first no matter what service they use. Such services are not for using in such activities.

Google finds 200m more people to advertise to in a single day

nickx89

grey areas

Some countries of asia, africa, and europe are considered grey areas where there is less potential for business or chances of fraud are likely. Even if they advertise the return might not be as expected. If the services in India targets bangladeshi people then that makes sense.

Spy vs spy vs hacker vs... who is THAT? Everyone's hacking each other

nickx89

spy on spy, researcher on researcher

So when spies are spying on other spies then security researchers shouldn't spy on the spies for threat intel. Instead they should focus on filling those loopholes in their systems, if they can't come up with it, then make it a security-security duo team. It sound so vague!

Patch your WordPress plugins: Scum are right now hijacking blogs

unfortunately

The very first step to website security is to keep it updated every time. But, unfortunately most of the plugins people use are 'cracked' which they cannot update or if they purchase, they are too lazy to update it.

Remakes are notorious for going flop. Only a few got to see the light of success. I think it will live to see another day but it won't hit the blockbuster.

AMD Ryzen beats Intel Core i7 as a heater (that's also a server)

nickx89

Didn't understand.

Would someone help me understand what Q.Rad really is? I did not understand. It says:

"Qarnot’s cloud is based on a disruptive infrastructure: the Q.rad, a heater embedding three CPUs as a heat source. We reuse the heat they generate to heat homes and offices for free. Q.rad is connected to the Internet and receives in real time workloads from our in-house computing platform.

Our main business at Qarnot is to provide a cloud computing platform which is able to send heavy workloads to any kind of computer, server or heater."

How does it transmit the heat?

Monkey selfie case settles for a quarter of future royalties

Everybody without Android Oreo vulnerable to overlay attack

nickx89

Didn't understand.

So, it was there before Oreo had arrived? Did it attack Android mobiles before? Did Google knew about this vulnerability that was patched in Android Oreo? It's ambiguous at this point.

Google rushes to curb Oreo's massive appetite for your 4G mobile data

nickx89

test subject

Google learn by experience. The test subject unfortunately is the consumer itself. If they haven't had such issue in their beta then they should have it in the final release. Their quality assurance should have strict measures.

Vivaldi boss: It'd be cool if Google went back to the 'not evil' schtick

nickx89

If this continues...

Everyone should have seen it long coming before praising and supporting Google all this time. The slow monopoly by Google has led it to be the largest ad network provider and the biased ad blocker in today's time. If this continues then we'd be left 'forced' ads by the Google rather than choice.

Hash of the Titan: How Google bakes security all the way into silicon

Ad blocking basically doesn't exist on mobile

nickx89

Oh why!?

Ad blocking requires active filter list. It seems they give the functionality but does not actively maintains it. The fact that people ignoring the ad blocking and other security practices causes their IDs and devices to be hacked by simple actions of hackers. I don't get why people don't bother and trust the apps blindly.

Chrome wants to remember which Websites to silence

nickx89

Do this too.

Great step by the Google Chrome team. The auto-play video has been annoying lately and websites are also forcing pop-up video once you scroll. Google should do something about it too. I am simply not interested in watching the video by shoving it down my throat.

Uncle Sam outlines evidence against British security whiz Hutchins

nickx89

Kill animals and destroy property before hurting humans, Germany tells future self-driving cars

Did I read, "Ultimately, drivers will still bear responsibility if their autonomous charabanc crashes, unless it was caused by a system failure"?? If it's an autonomous car it would not be in control of human or will it bail out in the moments of accident?

Though ethically wrong, but it's an initiative towards regulating the autonomous car driving.

Good call by the astronomers. That's how recycle should be done.

So you're planning on outsourcing some enterprise security

nickx89

In house crew knows the ground reality

Outsourcing is just a temporary way and an excuse to solve the problem for once. Third party don't understand your business what it does, what are it's requirements, what are it's strength and weaknesses, what resources it lacks. In house crew knows the ground reality and how much water they the ship is in. They'd better tackle the problem once they are trained with the required skills.

Can North Korean nukes hit US mainland? Maybe. But EMP blast threat is 'highly credible'

nickx89

They won't allow it.

It would be stupid for North Korea to go all nuclear because of neighboring Russia, China, and South Korea who'd not let the nuclear attacks. Anything affecting North Korea will affect the neighboring countries as well. Moreover, NK would be sending messages to other countries as well. EMP is highly likely but it wouldn't be a wise move as well.

Foxit PDF Reader is well and truly foxed up, but vendor won't patch

May be they should reach their far related cousin Firefox xD

So, Nokia. What makes you think the world wants your phones?

nickx89

I would give it a try.

I love the Carl Zeiss lens in Windows Phone but I am not its user. Having a Carl Zeiss camera lens in an Android variant by Nokia would be a traction for someone like me. I have been Nokia user since 3310 days. The minimalist design is attractive that I saw in Nokia 6, and loved it. The point is to reach the company with open mind and give it a try.

What code is running on Apple's Secure Enclave security chip? Now we have a decryption key...

nickx89

Didn't understand.

"The key does not provide access to the Secure Enclave Processor (SEP). Rather, it offers the opportunity to decrypt and explore the otherwise encrypted firmware code that governs it, affording security researchers and other curious types a chance to learn more about how the technology works."

I am trying to understand that the key provides the opportunity to unencrypt the code that handles the SEP? What does it unlock actually? Wouldn't it give an open field to the researchers to perform more than learn, like find new ways to actually provide means to SEP?

UK.gov is hiring IT bods with skills in ... Windows Vista?!

nickx89

Might they add

Might they add Windows Me and Long Horn as well. It's just a trick to ward off the freshers in the field which is a risky gamble to ignore potential candidates, or the HR is just stupid to update the requirements according to every other job.

Ukrainian man, 51, cuffed on suspicion of distributing NotPetya

nickx89

even if you posted for whatever reason

So it proves that they are doing surveillance after all, and by reading this, "Neverov is not suspected of writing NotPetya nor of being behind the initial ransomware attack that severely disrupted numerous businesses in Ukraine and across the world in late June," it shows that a video can make you cuffed! even if you posted for whatever reason.

Hey America! Your internet is going to be so much better this January

nickx89

The outcome is obvious.

"the US broadband regulator will simply change its mind as to what Internet access is." Brilliant, now the whole Internet would be the advertising platform for them, it would make a perfect heaven for broadband companies. So much efforts for making companies happy, welcome corporate America.

"So if you decide that "internet access" covers both fixed line and mobile then suddenly a huge percentage of the country gains access to "fast" internet access. Not only that but competition in the market suddenly jumps too because there are more providers"... If they add cellular networks into the Internet access, which they will, it would make an additional pocket filling stream for them.

Revealed: The naughty tricks used by web ads to bypass blockers

nickx89

They wouldn't have done that at first place!

The answer for Instart Logic is in this statement, "I consider this to be extremely hostile to users, even those not using a content blocker, as it allows third-party servers to read/write cookies even if a user chose to block third-party cookies," Hill explains.

If the advertisers didn't shove the advertisements to our throats and provided useful and sophisticated adverts then people wouldn't have mind their ads. Showing irrelevant ads on the wrong sites will eventually lead to content block.

Alien 'lava lamp' with dying magnetic field orbited Earth a billion years ago – science

nickx89

I think it shows,

Billion years ago? I still have one in my bed room. Well, to come to point, it shows planets lined with and the field was corrected before the life existed on earth.

Brits look at Google and Facebook every 210 seconds, says survey

nickx89

Are we going to see clash of advertisers?

Both the companies have monopolized the online ad networks while disguising themselves as a social media & search engine. It's not far enough that we'd be seeing huge conflict between the advertisers for the place.

US court system bug opened hole for hackers to scoop up legal docs for free on victims' dime

nickx89

Something positive.

It's positive that they fixed the vulnerability before potential attack. This forward approach should be adopted by everyone.

So you're thinking about becoming an illegal hacker – what's your business plan?

nickx89

HBO don't need to pay anyway.

For such crackers, what's the point of working till you get jackpot? You will be living your lives in fear of being caught and sentenced. Moreover, taking risks is another story. HBO don't need to pay anyway because people sees one episode on Sunday regardless of it being leaked.

We all deserve a break. Pack your bags. Four Earth-like worlds found around nearby Tau Ceti

'Just' that far!

If you mean by saying "just 12 light-years away" is equal to 12 x (9.46 trillion kilometers in vacuum) then yes! it's "just" that away. If astronomers says this being behind such far distance then how many many years it would take them to create such technology to travel at much faster speed than light of travel.

In the red corner: Malware-breeding AI. And in the blue corner: The AI trying to stop it

nickx89

This is a must read research by Endgame. I would wait to see the conclusion of this cat and mouse game in the context of antivirus. Since some malware doesn't work in a pattern, how would the AI response to that?
