IBM swings shrink ray from workforce to mainframes

mako23

Legacy Apps

The only reason to buy a mainframe is legacy apps. However the hardware is not special and neither is the operating system. Linux can run for weeks without booting. My mobile phone running android does its all the time.

I grew up with mainframes and my first job was a large mainframe site. I then moved onto as400’s a machine I still love. However I cannot see new customers moving onto a mainframe. With ultra fast SSD disks on a PC server the advantage is not there anymore. I doubt IBM mainframe business will die but it will become a smaller and smaller business.

Eventually IBM will leave this business, either by selling out or reduced investment.

Cost-hurling IBM seeks more volunteers for employment bonfire

mako23

There must now exist a toxic culture at IBM were staff are constantly worried when will the axe fall on them. The sad fact is that IBM is profitable yet is cutting staff as if there on their death bed. It does seem that they are callous to their own staff. This is the main reason why I will not purchase anything made by IBM. I wonder if any one else feels this way ??

IBM. Incredibly Broken Moral

mako23

In terminal decline

IBM broke its cloud by letting three domain names expire

mako23

Expect more of this to come

I suspect the person who was aware about the expired date was fired during the many head reduction programs on European and USA workers.

IBM: We're now a, what's not losing money? Ah, a cognitive cloud champ!

I fear the government more than ISIl at the moment. The chances of me being killed by ISIL are very very small, chances of the govt spying me ....next to a certainty. I have nothing to hide, I just hate the intrusion

There's no money in Hardware at present and it's unlikely to be much change in the foreseeable future. I sadly don't see any other possible alternative action for this company. I must say I feel very sorry for the employees that lose their job.

Blame Canada? $5.7m IBM IT deal balloons to $185m thanks to 'an open bag of money'

mako23

Not a surprise

With so many experienced staff gone and the hiring of wet behind the ear kids .......this should not be a surprise. This is the sort of contract that IBM would of excelled at in the old days.

Westpac brings authentication system in-house, binning IBM

As a westpac customer I'm very pleased to learn that IBM has been binned. I don't want some cheap wet behind the ears engineer breaking the system.

Servers sales are up. Nope, you read that right

mako23

Not a lot a million

How are these major companies supposed to survive when the total server market is 14 billion a quarter. I expect more death and destruction among hardware manufactures

IBM's global load balancer and reverse DNS degraded by domain transfer mess

mako23

Expect more of this to happen

IBM has fired so many experienced staff that had high intellectual capital. What's left is low payed staff with low intellectual capital. No disrespect to these individuals but you can't replace those individuals with twenty plus years of experience with staff out of an Indian university.

I'm an old timer who left IBM many years ago, the company I knew doesn't exist anymore. I expect further declining revenue and profit. In my opinion the share price is still way over valued.

Bad Company

I look forward to the day when this company collapses. Every time I see the share price drop I Rejoice a little.
