Human StarCraft II e-athletes crushed by neural net ace – DeepMind's AlphaStar

Prosthetic Conscience

Re: It's clever, but it's limited.

Not true, there is fog of war that was one of the main things, the advantage it had was that with this SC2 binary they use it's minimap is in a way its main input but with all the detail of looking at the screen. It's still a massive advantage as that allows it to use that 'realistic' APM on really really useful actions indeed.

The one we should be looking at is the version that was defeated by MaNa, that one does look at the screen the same way and it was a lot more natural and the micro was still off the hook.

The interesting thing is how it applies a strategy that's very unconventional and I think that combined with the inhuman micro skills that will always defeat human players (but lets see some Koreans try too). as humans have so far played only against humans and don't have 200 years worth of playing (as AlphaStar did)

After all that! Ofcom proposes BT as only broadband universal services provider for whole of UK (except Hull)

Prosthetic Conscience
Meh

Independent how?

How can you have a nation wide presence when you have to constantly lean on the same openreach and BT infrastructure wherever you go, no easy access to ducts, no investment in wireless and a lenghty licensing with ofcom for the latter in addition to them yet allowing/licensing bands that will allow for quick deployment for point to multipoint wireless that would make life easy for everyone and skirt copper completely in some cases. (TBF the wireless stuff have moved up very quickly the last five years maybe ofcom will get clued up)

Re: What did we do before they invented ABS?

Not exactly the same thing, this is about a bug that can disable ABS presumably unbeknownst to the driver anyway, you'd still kinda have to know what to do depending on the car you're driving regardless of the aids.

Not sure how you should break on a modern automatic with no ABS and no clutch though, so I'd be screwed anyway.. (as far as I remember if there's no ABS and manual you slam the break before the clutch (rather than together) and might have to pump the break yourself)
