Vodafone signs $550m deal with IBM to offload cloud biz

Rosie

Ah, that's a shit thing. I'm stating the bleeding obvious here folks - but this isn't going to end well Voda people.

Having been vacuumed up early 2015 (along with 400+ globally), being force fed the cringe inducing BS from an assortment of Watson conditioned pin-headed weasel-bots, being spat out 15 months later having my soul sucked out of me by a know-it-all team of humourless offshore assassin bots, it was the most unpleasant period of my working life - it was a relief to get my hands on my redundancy payment and walk out of the door. There are no more then a couple of dozen of my ex-colleagues at IBM globally so the odds of survival beyond a couple of years aren't good.

On the brightside pretty much all of my pre-IBM chums are working, so it's not all bad.

You have my heartfelt sympathy, hold on tight and try to maintain a sense of humour, and polish up the old LinkedIn page.

Good luck.

Jingle bells, IBM tells more staff it is D-day ♫

Rosie

Ex IBM-er here, made redundant in the May 2016 UK GTS cuts, now working for one of my ex-customers and taking pleasure in holding IBM feet to the fire - yes, the service is truly appalling, and whilst frustrating it certainly beats the hell out of constantly looking over your shoulder expecting the grim reaper to give you the finger.

Sympathy for those who are about to get the bullet. However, on a more positive note if you're decent there are opportunities out there for sure.

Logitech: We're gonna brick your Harmony Link gizmos next year

Rosie

I've 5 Logitech Squeeze devices still going strong (with help from the great dev community) - was a great concept and an excellent product designed by the Slim Devices guys.

Logitech bought out SD and just didn't get it - marketing didn't understand it so they canned it. Genius.

I don't buy Logitech anymore.

BA's 'global IT system failure' was due to 'power surge'

Power supply problem

You'd think they could come up with something more plausible than that old chestnut.

Lloyds to outsource 2,000 staff in IBM deal

Rosie

Oh dear. Apart from banking with Lloyds for the last 30 years ( but not for much longer) I went through TUPE into IBM after they did a similar deal with a big media company a couple of years back. I was spat out along with 95% of my colleagues some 15 months later after doing "knowledge transfer" with some dude located far, far away.

What can I say of my experience with IBM? They are without doubt the worst bunch I've had the misfortune to work for in 35 years of employment - abject clueless excuse for a company. So glad to have gotten out. Really feel for the Lloyds employees, really very sad.

Start looking around is the only suggestion I can make. As someone else already said you'll get the IBM spiel about how valuable your are, IBM'er, blah blah. It's all bull and your job will probably end up being done out of Bangalore once you done the KT. You'll dig your own grave and then be shoved into it once they're happy they've sucked enough out of you.
