I used to work somewhere where the networking was outsourced and the switches needed to be renewed. Turns out that the networking company didn't know what had been plugged into what and their guy unplugged all the cables before someone realised his mistake...

One of our guys then spent the rest of his weekend on his hands and knees crawling around the office noting down the number of each network port that was in use...

Re: Unrealised gains

But HMRC already do tax unrealised gains - look at the pensions of those earning >£120k : get a bonus/increment and the projected pension at age 67 is taxed right now. Even if you are planning to leave earlier.

...

I know ordinary (well paid) people having to take out second mortgages to cover these.

Someone in the UK earning >£120k can't be classed as ordinary - that's four times the British median and in the top two percent of incomes.

Naively assuming that, just because a PC exe I've not bothered recompiling since 1999 still runs as well today as it did back then (doing its rather dull task), 'phone apps might have a decent longevity as well.

The exe itself may run, but many bits of 32bit software can't be installed on 64bit Windows due to them using a 16bit installer

Such a move is doubtful – the US is no more likely to let China fish up the F-35C wreckage than elect Xi Jinping as US president

Well they got their hands on an American EP-3 a few years ago and appeared to have learnt quite a bit from it. The Chinese also managed to salvage a British submarine in complete secrecy too.

How to polish the bottom line? Microsoft makes it really hard to claim expenses, say staffers

Korev Silver badge

> Upvote for the pun, but Concur (especially with the ExpensIT (sp?) add-on) is pretty slick to use.

Yeah, I did feel slightly bad about making it. Concur is a big improvement over the SAP-based monstrosity that we used before replaced.

We no longer need to scan receipts under 25CHF, but we still need to enter an itemise each one - (as you say) this probably costs more to the company than the actual expense.
