I can't see anyone making an optical processor either. Until someone makes some sort of optical transistor, we will still have to translate the light into electrical signals & back again. This would take a lot of chip space in any implementation.

Give me a good WH40k any day. StarWars and the like were fine when I was in school. As an adult I almost gave up on recreational reading until a friend introduced me to the more gothic SF that is WarHammer. Now I'm giving Games Workshop more than I ever gave good old George Lucas. The theme does seem to carry on into gaming as well, with titles like Dead Space.

Re: The last tale...

I always thought guns were cool, but never had the desire to bring one anywhere near a school. I didn't need safety lessons to teach that common sense either. Kids make mistakes, but that kid was seriously underestimating the purpose of a gun. A WEAPON is something you show friends at home or while camping perhaps. All the safety I was taught later in life seemed obvious by my own reasoning. That kid & his elders all fail to meet minimum standards for critical thinking.

Keiretsu, meaning "series" or "subsidiary" - A subsidiary of the still existing Mitsubishi conglomerate is still part of a Monopoly IMO. Re: "even if "six-tenths of a kilometre" still has a ring of old school about it."

the simplicity of the metric system allows you to show 1/3 of a meter as 0.3333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333... and so on. The metric/decimal system hates those pesky thirds.

Re: Can we get Gnome and KDE to do three-point-turns, too, now?

Have you seen Gnome3? They just tried the same "Radical" "Innovative" & "belongs-on-a-damn-tablet" changes we see in Win8. I hate it just as much as Balmer's Metrosexual CP. I hope people have some choice other than what the Metro Consumer Preview looks like. At least with 'nix you have MANY choices for appearance.

18 months?

This guy's behavior goes far beyond the kind of things "Anons" are being raided/arrested for. Not only is 18 months too light, but in violating the trust & privacy of others this man should not expect any privacy ever again. Crime like this deserves mandatory location tracking & some sort of internet tracking/auditing. Odds are high he will continue to be a repeat offender. Most of the commentards here feel a lengthy prison sentence is justified for Anon defacing or DDoSing a website. I wonder how they would compare this?

Boffins smash 3Gbps speed barrier with 542GHz T-Rays

Not news really

We already knew we could use this spectrum, but would deal with these issues. Nothing new to report here except some people want some funding to continue their research into tech which can only replace NFC. This will never replace WiFi because to get the same penetration & range you would have to turn up the power to the point where you'd cook the birds in the sky or something. With better antennae it is easy to boost the range of existing tech. I'll keep my homemade point-to-point 802.11g(108Mbps) link thank you.
