Linux can't be easily re-licenced because the copyright is owned by the individual contributers not all of whom are contactable, or even still alive.

The difference with copyright is that I can look at how your program works, without looking at the source code, and write my own implementation of it, maybe changing some stuff where I don't like the decisions you made, whereas a patent stops me from doing that.

I use the example of a washing machine, where there are actual updates that make a difference to performance, but nobody cares, they buy a new one every 10 years or so when the old one breaks.

That's easy, run lots of virtual machines. And the 2TB of RAM will help there as well.

Well if you definition of "database" is the likes of Postgres and MariaDB, then yes.

But a key-value store is a type of database, and sometimes, not always, it is the right choice.

If you watch some of Jim Browning's videos, I guess you will find the number. Or there's a few other YouTube channels that do similar things.

Indeed. I knew they overpaid. All the other commentards on here at the time knew they overpaid. The other companies that considered buying them and walked away knew it was too expensive.

The centered task-bar and fake Teams are both things you can fix post-install.

However, if you like your taskbar somewhere other than the bottom of the screen, that isn't such an easy fix.

Hydrogen can leak through the gaps between the atoms of other materials. The only really viable way to stop that happening is to combine four of them together along with a carbon atom and use that as your fuel.

I'm guessing the main danger is that they have already provisioned an Apple/Google Pay card on a burner phone, and they are spending on that? And the debt collectors will be round at some point seeking payment.

The "Looney Greens" don't want people flying at all. They want them to use electric trains powered by renewable energy.

Certainly some routes could be replaced with train services, but not all of them.

The people promoting this sort of stuff are greenwashers and people who's business plan is to raise money in investment rather than deliver an actual product.

If they crop the image, adjust the exposure to make it more visible, then create multple compressed versions of it at different resolutions on their image server; that isn't faking it any more than taking text that someone has written and changing the fonts etc to your publication's house style. But it is probably enough for a computer to think it is a completely different image.

When you are at a hospital, they might use an x-ray machine to figure out what is wrong with you. If, instead, they used an extreme ultraviolet machine, would you feel as comfortable with the procedure?

O2's customer service is actually been pretty OK any time I've called them. Whether that will continue now they are owned by Virgin is an open question.

And recruiters insist on receiving it in word format. Presumably LibreOffice would work fine, but it does look very different to MS Word.

Excel's built-in conditional formatting and formulas is now Turing complete, so anything can be done in it. Doesn’t mean it should, especially where while loops are involved, as that requires recursion.

It kind-of is, with a free developer account, and you have to update the signing certificate weekly.

That doesn't count though, because it is too much hasle, even if you know what you are doing.

Which begs the question, why does Google pay so much to be the default? You can change the default search engine in iDevices. Right now, most people don't, but I suspect they would figure out pretty quick how to do it if it wasn't Google.

Also, what % of searches on Bing are for the word "Google"?

In the UK, you pay less tax for healthcare than in the US, and receive more for your money.

If you decide to go private, that is a lot cheaper in the UK than in the US, like an order of magnitude cheaper.

How does that show that the government "should ban ALL public roads, along with fire services and the US military".

If you want to see what a private military is like, go to Russia. Would you want the Wagner Group defending your country?

Bing certainly isn't any better. The name does at least accurately describe what it is, a very large heap of rubbish, such as you might find in a landfill site.

Cups was developed, at least in part, by Apple. And I don't hear people complainting about printing on MacOS.
