Re: A year and one day

Looks like one year means one year inside. However one year and one day could mean six months inside.

Idea: user-defined whitelisting string.

Tell your bank that email from them will only be accepted if the email body and/or header contains the provided string. If and when emailing you, the bank includes that string. Your email client, knowing your string, jettisons email not including it. Hey presto, more easily identified spam and phishes, at least until the next data hack.

I plan to have HMRC include the string "The balance will be left behind the bar at the Winchester"

Hash-matching, eh? I would expect unaligned IM clients to randomly start changing low order bits when forwarding images in the near future. Perhaps adding jpg artifacts, so we can judge how socially near we are to an event by the amount an image has been degraded.

Just this morning I set up a Surface Pro 4 with a 512Gb§ SSD, much of which was promptly requisitioned to store 150Gb worth of dropbox that needed syncing. The future arrives faster than we think.

I had to investigate this a couple years ago. Software patents are allowed in the UK & EU, but the landscape is very hostile. I highly recommend Philip Leith's "Software and patents in Europe" http://www.cambridge.org/gb/academic/subjects/law/intellectual-property/software-and-patents-europe

Philip Leith spent some considerable time in IT before moving to law; he clearly Get's It

Re: Background on RAF Eastcote - the orginal site for GCHQ!

I was an AA for 18 months there in the late '80s, tending the mainframes, and they were certainly still using ICL/George. I don't remember the 2900s , but I do remember the 2966 drives.

Favourite memory: the emergency phone number list had The Black Horse local pub as the first number!
