Don't worry, with systemd, linux is rapidly catching up with macos and windows in becoming unusable.

IT isn't about odd concepts such as "safe" and "secure", it's about hoarding data (any data) and then finding ways to flog that data to the highest bidder. Even if you pay for a service (say office 365), your data is still being stored, analyzed and sold.

With dns-over-https, another one of those great google inventions, your dns is bypassed and sll dns requests are sent over an https tunnel directly to google. Not much your pihole is going to do about that. And even firefox promotes this (but with cloudflare instead of google).

I really like the 'Pelican Static Site Generator'. No server-side dynamic code, scales really well in addition to be really secure!

Given that you can hide a planet the size of mercury in the rings of Uranus and not even notice from a relatively short distance that it's there (ignoring gravitation for the sake of the argument), the rings having 20000x the mass of Mercury sounds plausible.

Oh yeah, zscaler. The mitm that intercepts all https connections and replaces the channel between browser and proxy with an insecure tls connection. Very secure, gotta love it.

For me, i don't consider kde an option ever because it wastes so much resources on eye candy, bogging down my system. In a vm kde is unusable too becsuse it is so bloated.

Then again, I don't use gnome either. First thing I do is install xmonad, a non-decorated tiling window manager. I come to my computer to do stuff, not to get dazzled by eye-candy or getting rsi endlessly arranging windows with a mouse.

Multi-monitor support also sucks for both kde and gnome.

IBwho? Do they still have skilled people working for them? I thought they fired everyone.

And no doubt have a po box as a head office in some European country to avoid paying too much tax.

I remember working for such a shop once. They treated the sw dev department the same. "Hey, if any can run outlook on it surely you can develop your highly specialized embedded software on it". The machine was good enough for (barely, when the anti-virus, policy enforcing crap and surveillance software wasn't maxing out the cpu) writing my resignation letter.

And it would be correct to mark them as insecure. Whether that's convenient is another matter, but sending your router password unencrypted over the air is indeed considered insecure.

I've only gotten my ip changed once in the past 15 years. I moved to a different town.

Static ip's are pretty standard these days, dynamic ip's are silly with 24/7 internet connections.

Scp or sftp, i'm sure there's android clients for those. But you can continue to use the legacy and insecure (your password is sent over the wire unencrypted, as are sll your files) ftp, this article only says that websites that pull, let's say, their images in over ftp (instead of http/https which is used by 99.9999999999999999999999999% of the sites) are going to break. This is independent of whether those images have been uploaded over ftp or not.

Why go through the trouble? Check the list of ca's your browser trusts. I bet you'll find the russian stae-owned one in there. And a few usa controlled ones. And what about China? They can all print random certs at will.

Right, so i tried to run this simple plotting application at work the other day, written in python. 2 hours and 50gb of downloaded crap later it managed to generate a simple xy-plot. Data scientists manage to ruin everything!

I was under the impression that "the ruling political class" (ie. Trump) was rather fond of these nazi's. I applaud google for ignoring the ruling political class and stand up for decency for once.
