AMD to nibble the ankles of Nvidia this summer with 14nm FinFET GPUs

Emo

Missed opportunity?

I can't help thinking that AMD and nVidia missed a trick by not incorporating silicon that could do bitcoin/litecoin etc calculations. Think of all the coin farms they could have sold GPUs too.

Or even a separate line of low watt high power *coin chips to really worry the competition.

GPUs lost out to FPGA and ASIC due to power/performance per watt a long time ago. If they could nail the low power and have massive giga/tera hash products people would be queuing up to buy.

A sideline of their engineers working on this could surely pull off something amazing.

I guess its too niche.

Nexus 7 fandroids tell of salty taste after sucking on Google's Lollipop

Nexus 7 2012 & Nexus 4 Sideloaded with Lollipop

The Nexus 4 runs beautifully, this update has breathed new life into the phone, I have moved on to a OnePlus One though, and seeing Lollipop on the N4 I can't wait for it on the OnePlus One :)

The Nexus 7 2012 runs like a dog - it improved slightly by wiping the cache from the Bootloader>Recovery menu but still frustrating to use, unless you are very patient!!

Time left and time to charge are great additions to the OS.

Last year I got a WatchGuard XTM8 (810) 10port/1Gbe port firewall/VPN appliance for £50 off eBay (normally £12,000) but with no PSU and no g'tee it worked.

Replacement PSU £40.

pfSense (free) installed with help from some of the forum members as it is a bit finicky having no COM1 but has COM2 on board.

Works like a dream, Intel Quad Core CPU and 2GB ram as standard.

£11,900 saving.

I've still yet to figure out why I need the ability for 500k connections to my home broadband, but at least I'm covered ;)

Re: @Thesheep (was: @jake)

It was only the 486DX onwards where the math co-pro was incorporated into the chip. 486SX no math co-pro.

386SX was a 32bit chip with a 16bit data bus - no math co-pro on board.

386DX was a 32bit chip with a 32bit data bus - no math co-pro on board.

387 Math co-pro's were separate chips.

The math co-pro was quite a bit dearer than the cpu back in the day.
