Bad blood: Theranos CEO charged with massive fraud

Re: "media were fawning over"

"true that a nice face to"

"Had tits" was to indicate her sex in my delightfully crude style. They didn't fawn because of her tits or pretty face (although neither hurt) they fawned because she is a woman succeeding in a man's world, she was aspirational, a cause to champion, and a winner, the next Steve Jobs FFS (until she wasn't big time).

You can watch Meredith Perry in a couple of TED videos talking and presenting utter crap and the audience gush and fawn because she also has tits.

inmypjs Silver badge

Just goes to show how dumb...

investors are and how dumb people and the media were fawning over this useless entrepreneur because it had tits.

Waiting for the similarly dumb/dishonest Meredith Perry to finally be found out - at least there is much less money involved.

They are. You really don't get this intersectionality stuff do you.

In the tiny libtard mind all majority groups are hated because they by definition must be oppressing the minority ones.

Re: "and switching to plain text"

"Plain text is good for humans only. Not for computers."

I was tasked to design a node in an update of a multi-node serial bus embedded system. The bus data rate was increased by a factor of 4 to improve performance over the existing system.

The packet format over the bus was basically binary so the packets were not easily human readable anyway.

One of the requirements was for the node to report its temperature over a 20C range with 8 bit resolution, so you would think a byte would be fine? Nope the moron/customer decided that temperature needs to be expressed in ASCII in degrees K to 2 decimal places and shall include the decimal point and the K. Why not waste time sending and thousands of processor cycles formatting and parsing 7 bytes of information when one will do? Why not increase comms speed by a factor of 4 so you can decrease data representation efficiency by a factor of 7.....

Thanks to planning regulation it would not surprise me if half of all new builds are on shitty little brown field sites and that half of those are not within 30Mb/s distance of a cabinet.

Re: All that screen and only 1080 vertical ? In 2018 ? For gaming ?

"sitting pretty on 3840 x 2160"

Some people actually play games instead of masturbating over high resolution textures.

Back in the day hardcore Quake players ran 320x240 because for actually playing the game frame rate was much more important than resolution.

"jumped to 4K with the 43" LG43UD79-B"

Thanks for the heads up, do run win 7 don't use aero.

For a desktop screen I don't see (literally) the point in more than about 100 ppi so that LG is right on that score but I think 43" at 16:9 is just too tall.

inmypjs Silver badge

Re: Still only 1080 Vertical

It is for gaming, horizontal res is only 4k on more than double the width of a normal aspect screen.

I have been using 2 x 30" 2560 x 1600 for years. I would love to keep the size and res and lose the gap between them.

"It wouldn't accelerate anything like as quickly"

Maybe because he could fill it up and drive 50 miles while the Tesla is waiting for a supercharger slot to become free (and another 50 while it is charging).

Frankly it is ridiculous that Tesla sized the electronics motors and transmission so it can do its 500kW blow away everything from the lights 'ludicrous' mode party piece that has no practical application other than bragging rights for Tesla and tosspots.

I watched Clarkson's recent model X review. He loved the stupid gimmicks. I would be embarrassed to own a Tesla. Try showing the bird that you can make it look like a James Bond submarine Lotus on the console display and see how much of a fanny magnet it is.

Re: Hmmm

" broke 2kWh"

In other words it would take 12+ weeks (see below) to fully charge an 85kWh Tesla.

In other words the panels have earned less than 30p a day since October.

(Tesla model S claims 1% battery drain per day standby so 850Wh for the 85kWh one, people say they lose more than 1% per day and I wouldn't be surprised if it is significantly more if it needs to keep its battery warm in very cold conditions).

inmypjs Silver badge

Re: "download entire films, or businesses to share huge files, almost instantly"

"able to use more than 640KB of RAM"

64kb/s is enough for voice, has been since the telephone was invented, and always will be. Likewise there is a limit on video data rate a human can comprehend and increasing that will require tens of thousands of years to evolve bigger eyeballs.

What sources and sinks of data are there that require 100s of Mb/s?

inmypjs Silver badge

"download entire films, or businesses to share huge files, almost instantly"

And downloading an entire film that is going to take at least 90 minutes to watch almost instantly is useful why? If you stream you can start watching it instantly anyway.

People simply can't generate or consume information at superfast rates, superfast is rarely worth anything.

US docs show Daimler may have done a Dieselgate – German press claims

inmypjs Silver badge

Re: Testing irl

"How Toxic Is Your Car Exhaust"

That was quite shocking, but, the dumb fscks don't get that reducing NOx emission is easy.

What is hard to the point of impossible is reducing NOx emissions without also reducing power and efficiency and so increasing CO2 emissions.

The manufacturers are trying to provide what their customers want to buy. If you had one of the NOx emitting VWs and they offered to update the ECU to reduce NOx emissions at the cost of 10% less maximum power and 10% worse mileage would you you take the update?

inmypjs Silver badge

Never understood the dieselgate outrage bollocks

Sign of the virtue signalling times I suppose.

I have bought more than one motorbike which had specifically added flat spots in the fueling to meet noise emission regulations. Testing required measurement at something like 30mph second gear and maximum throttle. Big bikes would be slow and quiet a couple of mph either side of 30 in second while being loud and pulling wheelies or spinning tyres everywhere else.

Manufacturers have been following the letter and not the spirit of regulation and standards for decades. Can't say I blame them and the EPA or whoever it is should be the ones criticised for coming up with unrealistic tests that were easy to 'game'.

"money from the NRA than the Russians"

Wow one bit of libtard bollocks is bigger than another bit of libtard bollocks.

In 2016 labour unions spent $1.7 billion on politics and lobbying.

Even the politifact Libtards can only make all NRA political spending add up to $302M over the last 19 years. Planned Parenthood spent $38M in 2016 alone.

inmypjs Silver badge

"and their advocacy groups, such as the NRA!"

That is just bollocks. The 'abortion' industry spends about the same as the NRA on political lobbying and support. The unions spend about 50 times more.

The idea that politicians are NRA thralls or even influenced by them is pure libtard bollocks. They are influenced by the 40 odd % of Americans that keep guns in their homes.

inmypjs Silver badge

Re: Numbers

Politifact - lol I'll take Wikipedia over that any day.

Found an old post on these forums. 2013 suicides by firearm 21k2 (and 20k not by firearm). Homicides by firearm 11k2 and accidental death by firearm 0k5.

So twice as many people killed themselves than others with firearms and as many again killed themselves without firearms. 1.4 million over the period is about 38k p.a. so looks like Politifact grouped suicides and accidents with homicides to create some fake news to suit their agenda.

Substantially more Americans killed themselves in the period than have been killed in all wars - so bloody what!

What a moronic thing to say. The only way they could act as a buffer is if renewable energy sources were used to synthesize the gas they run on and that doesn't happen at all.

They are non-green generation burning dead dinos and would be even more ridiculously expensive if forced to sit idle while renewable sources are available.

inmypjs Silver badge

"are not renewable energy at all"

No and that they are even mentioned in the context shows you what a technically illiterate eco greenwash bullshit fest the whole context is.

When farcebook stops working at night when it isn't windy I will believe they run on renewable energy.

inmypjs Silver badge

Re: Not half-way good enough.

"Ads are a necessary evil."

No they are not. They are a waste paid for by consumers and offer very little in return. It would be much cheaper to pay for content currently funded by advertising.

I would love to live in a world which banned advertising, the whole world would be 4-5% richer and 3-4% of the workforce would be available to do something useful instead.

Hyperoptic's overkill 10Gbps fibre trial 'more than a clever PR stunt'

inmypjs Silver badge

"I can remember when people were wondering what to do with 512k on ADSL !"

Really? I was pissed off the 8Mb the green frogs could do was crippled to 512k so BT could continue to rip off its leased line and ISDN customers.

That said there are limits to the data rate humans can consume or generate. 64k is enough for voice and has been since the telephone was invented for example. 4k video is mostly bollocks that people can't see. So after about 20Mb per person the only advantage is waiting less time to get big gobs of data to be consumed slower and that isn't worth a lot.

I use my 80Mb connection about 1% of the time what advantage to I get using a 1Gb connection less than 0.1% of the time?
