OpenMESH, same here several local businesses use it, I have it at home and at my parents and in-laws and now I have to rip-and-replace as I do not have the funds to pay per month for this clown wifi controller, when it was free for 30 days it was good enough. I do not want to pay full price for the access point and then pay every month. the access points never fail and datto is not cisco and I am not using cisco features or have the cisco staff to run the WLC/WCS - Cisco Prime.

Windows updates on Windows 7 are made to be painful, windows updates on Server 2008r2 are fast... Hmmmmm. Windows 10 updates are fast. We are in an abusive relationship where we get pushed down the stairs every so often so we do not talk back. We tell everyone else that it was our mistake we fell down the stairs again... Windows 10 is our only choice in corporate America. Our apps are win32/64 and only work on Windows. Windows 7 will no longer get security updates in January 2020.

In India and China combined they have 10 licenses of CC or CS. The piracy rate is over 95% because the cost of the software is too high. Americans are funding Adobe software so that other countries can steal it. The criminals will always have a way to steal it.
Trump needs to have the BSA audit India, China and Russia for stolen software. If you can't afford commercial software use open source and quit stealing. You want proof? India has like 70,000 newspapers and the publishing is done on Windows XP with old Adobe software....
white box junk, some of the OSes are never updated, they run a buggy version of Linux, a SNMP mib walk can make them lock up, when the vendor quits patching you have to jump to a newer kit in the same week. At least with Cisco you get support and know when the kit gets abandon.
TOR switches have missing features that we have been using for a long time and make provisioning a pain. Lots of moving targets so pick your poison.
for students it is hands down better to use G Suite, anyone else doing the MS thing is just a 100% idiot. Chromebooks do not get stolen, are cheap and do not get kooties... Windows is great if you like to have an entire army to support your users and poorly written software that in some cases runs on someone else's computer. Do you get WAN bandwidth for free? Microsoft says everyone now has a 1 gig connection...
Microsoft has stifled competition for decades. The US Government tried to see how to level the playing field and failed.
Microsoft still abuses it's monopoly on the desktop space.
There is NO competitor that can run Win32 binaries. The US Government should have forced Microsoft to have 2 other source code partners that distributed the same platform to launch applications. I would have been the guy to buy IBM Windows over Microsoft Windows, like in the days of OS/2 running win16 applications.
The market has moved away from Microsoft as we see over 2 billion Android mobile devices and 1 billion IOS devices. The corporate users are confined to desktop apps are still hostage to the legacy desktop applications...
standard issue corporate laptop/desktop is 4gb of RAM. They all suck so bad I took a Lenovo T420 with 16gb of RAM and a 160gb SSD. It was the right decision. Me with Firefox and Chrome up with 10-20 tabs the thing is using 8gb of RAM. So i think all PC's should have 16gb of RAM and a SSD, if not you suck and the erperince is crap.
That is why users are so happy with iPad's, they do not require 16 gb of RAM to run without swapping. The PC is dead.
This AIO needs to allow me to run older OSes and Linux, or it is rubbish. At least an iMac you can put MacOS back on it and sell it later. A year in and this will be a $500 use PC....
It seems that people who drive cars and trucks are not wearing out the tires fast enough, this quarter we saw our profits flatline. So we are developing a new tire stategay with Ford, Fiat and General Motors where the tires during the lease are free to replace under normal wear but the person must pay $10 per month to get tire assurance. This will help us get re-offuring income like the iTunes radio subscription, NetFlix or Sirius Satellite radio.
I promise next quarter our profits will not be flat. We will find new and creative ways to get more profit from these profit centers.

With a Mac you can get Apple care for 3 years. Some devices have been current for over 6 years... Have you seen ANY SP1 owners? They all got tossed in the garbage pit when the SP2 or SP3 came out...

Think of the licensing for Thunderbolt from Intel. How well did it sell? How well did it get put on every system since 2011 with thunderbolt 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0? Well they had to drop the licensing royalties around 3.0 because nobody was using it but Apple... With USB 3.1 most users do not care about Thunderbolt...

Well I had the privilege to be one of the few that purchased South Beach 1.5 Beta and used it in production. We ran a DOS Clipper database app as well as AutoCAD on that OS. It was rough but better than installing Windows on xx physical desktops.
Today I have yet to see any VDI protocol that is better at delivering high performance CAD and Video apps than PCoIP from VMware... scary stuff with a HP Thin Client running Linux. LOL
I have been using VMware where Windows will not run the VM's and is painful. Not sure but the whole VMware stack works well and is simple. Not perfect but hands down better than anyone else. Amazon, eBay, Google and like providers can do whatever they want as they have a whole army of IT staff and developers to make any OS or application just work. The rest of us use VMware. The SMB market? VMware there with the free hypervisor is just too simple compared to the Hyper-V product.

Well when FC16 came out VMware could only run it at 8gig, so much for spending the cash on HBA's and switches when the stupid OS would not support it.
The only reason why this is a good thing is that the FC16 and FC8 gear will be on firesale and us bargain hunters can pick it up for a penny on the dollar when it is just 3 years old. LOL Sometimes less than that!

The rest of us are using 10gig ethernet, data center ethernet and multiple sessions on LACP with MLAG switches. I am sure there are businesses that need this but for the rest of us it is more about the software stack and licensing. The migration off Oracle and MS SQL to open source products. The open source stuff is so good that if your not the top 1% your wasting your $ on some of this commercial stuff. Good staff and good hardware make it so that the developers are now the bottleneck.
We are now in the phase of supporting Android and IOS as the major platforms so all the legacy Microsoft products are not even considered anymore. Some have moved on and others are stuck in the past. LOL
It is NOT IPv6, it is double NATed IPv4 and then carrier grade nat as it exits the charter network in Detroit. Each static subnet cable modem has 2 paths, one paths is the static address pool and the other goes out the double NATed carrier network. Prolly using Cisco FabricPath
If Cisco was smart they would come out with IPv7 that fixes all the complexity of IPv6 but allows the use of IPv4. Dual stack OSes suck, remember Windows NT - IP and Netware - NCP?

He forgot to say that in those places where they have 3.500 .NET apps they have Java apps that run the business. The .NET are just for reporting or specific use cases where we could not do it with Java. Some places told the developers to focus on Java as a .NET app could be a career limiting move.
All the CIO's and CEO's I know are asking the developers how to get app XYZ on their damn Apple Watch! LOL so here we go again... No CEO or CIO asked for .NET on a watch!
Most IT staff are just barely able to handle supporting the Microsoft stack. Any additional complexity and they just tell the users "You will have to just deal with it because that is the way it is" and they walk away. I have seen this.
VMware VDI with Nvidia video cards are VERY good, you need Gig networking and a peppy thin client, not the junk $99 ones. I am talking about dual screen video and CAD. It can be done and that pool is separate from the general purpose users.
You have to give users access to multiple pools with different view servers so if one view cluster is down there are alternatives, i.e. another non persistent pool. Yes you need multiple DNS servers, if you have 1 you have no right complaining. DHCP is the same thing.
You also need documentation on software used on site as well as how to install it. yes some vendors need a kick in the nuts, i.e. the ones that still break rules that require administrator to get the thin to run or things that fail running on terminal server. We should be past junk win95 software that fails to run on terminal server.
Your mileage may vary if you use the substandard VDI vendors like Citrix or Microsoft. LOL
Azure Cloud servers need a VERY robust scripting language.
So this trick is just to manage the mess they have created. If they would have integrated BASH or used Linux or BSD as the core OS 10-20 years ago we would just use UNIUX shell experts to manage the hundreds of thousands of Microsoft Azure servers.
Hint if MS Azure had to pay for every server and SQL license they would have switched to UNIX a long time ago... Hint if MS Azure ran BSD or Linux they could cut the number of bare metal servers in 1/2 and save on space, electricity and cooling as well as UPS capacity...
