UK ministers' Broadband '2.0' report confuses superfast with 10Mbps

Re: it makes more sense to not have FTTP

With Gigaclear a domestic user does have the option of self-install - although there are still steep activation costs. Rural business users typically have top pay £1000 for activation and installation (can be much more), extra monthly charge for bridge mode so that they can use their own firewall, no IPv6 availability, and a monthly charge that is getting close to leased line (but with contention, and inferior SLA). But since Gigaclear is usually the only option rural businesses don't have much in the way of choice...

"For Everyone"

It may be cheap, but no TalkTalk service is available to anyone (like me) with a 20CN Market A exchange.

TalkTalk "For Everyone" - NOT

Allow us to sum this up: UK ISP Plusnet minus net for nine-plus hours

Packet loss is probably gateway related

I had bad packet loss for half a day a week or so ago. Reset the router and ended up connected to a different Plusnet gateway. No problems since, so I suspect the problem only affects certain gateway(s).

Happy birthday, Amiga: The 'other' home computer turns 30

If I remember correctly, by that time David Pleasance was selling the audio CD "Everybody's Girlfriend", rather than any Amiga hardware/software. He had a new career as a record producer/manager - he was a rather good flamenco guitar player, and his son had a band. I still listen to the CD from time to time, I think it's not at all bad, and had a tenuous Amiga theme to it (hence the title).

There was one later Amiga event, but that was at Hammersmith Town Hall (IIRC). I had a stall there, but I'm not sure I managed to sell enough to make a profit on the weekend.
