This is just how science works

We know how gravitational lensing works since GR is a well confirmed theory. We can use that theoretical knowledge to build instruments to give us data about the world we can't acquire directly. In principle it's no different to the way geologist use sophisticated models of the Earth to find mineral deposits except that astronomers have been doing it a lot longer. Look up Cepheid variables for a simple example of how this works in principle. The news here is just the use of ML.

Most of my storage capacity (on my home system) is actually WORAFT (write once read a few times). Currently that's all slowish hard drives but QLC (if it meets its promise) could see me replacing them with flash sooner than I had expected.

If you don't want t bother looking at the comparison charts (they're out there, I assure you) just use this simple rule - an AMD CPU might not be the fastest money can buy (or the coolest!) but it will almost certainly come out on top in bang for your buck.
