Re: Some multi-billion dollar corporations.....
"Some multi-billion dollar corporations can't even fixed severe security issues that puts millions of users at risk within 90 days...."
and that's relevant to this post how ???????????????

accountants \ idiots \ both (delete as applicable), they will still continue to farm out data storage into the "Cloud".
Its bout time companies realise that saving a few quid today could cost them heavily in the future.
Bring it all back in house, then you only have yourself to blame - data is often the life blood of a company, its too valuable to let someone else have control over it.
"Can we pass a law in Westminster saying that our citizens can help themselves in US shops? Or that a speed limit of 70 mph applies on US motorways to English people?"
I think we should
the US embassy in London refused to pay the congestion charge on the grounds of diplomatic immunity, but UK embassy staff in the US don't have that luxury as they have to pass through toll booths.
Data held in servers in the EU should be subject to EU law only - but in reality we know that the US will never respect that nor any other laws that they don't pass.
Have a pint OffBeatMammal
exactly my point on here, Microsoft does it - out come the penguins on a rant
anyone else does it - silence
and yes, no year of Linux on the desktop - thank goodness - Id hate to have to consult the whining masses when I have a tricky issue, esp. one that involves integration in a Microsoft environment
"As for what you call rounded IT experience with these devices, you must be joking."
this is my point, regardless of how bad something is \ you may think it is, kids should be exposed to the whole range of computing experiences (my only caveat there is the price of Apple products and the limited budgets of many schools) .
My main issue with these forums is that the (currently) most ubiquitous platform (namely any Microsoft platform) is frequently derided here and according to a lot of the whiners should be eradicated.
There is a frequent cry that business etc. should be allowed to choose something other than Microsoft, and you know what - they have chosen. You may not like their choice but they have the right to make it, you may say its putting money into the pockets of the behemoth that Microsoft became, but they chose it - the simple thing is the vast majority of people don't want a kit of parts they have to sling together themselves, they want a pc they can switch on, do what they need to do and in that process never once resort to having to type unless its a message to someone or a line in a search engine.
There is a place for all O\S's out there, when you call for people to choose and they choose the one you don't like, respect their decision - and stop whining.
"just keep the glass tilter"
for hand pulled cask !!!!!!!
glass should be vertical at all times, sparkler (or not - for the heathen southern jessies) should be firmly against the bottom of the glass in the centre. Every cask is different requiring a different pull technique.
If I were drinking lager and someone poured me a glass with a head that big in the clip I'd be sending it back for a top up

"As far as the spooks are concerned, evidence is overrated. They lied through their teeth over WMDs in Iraq and forged some “evidence”. In this case they just smile and say “Trust us”."
Actually most of the "evidence" provided by the spooks was admitted by them to be speculation, it was the politicians who over stated the documents in hand to back up self serving agendas.
"....."When we talk about why we're upgrading the Windows 10 install base, why is that upgrade free? MS CFO asked during a meeting with Wall Street analysts. These are all new monetization opportunities once a PC is sold. Microsoft's strategy is to go low on consumer Windows licenses, hoping that that will boost device sales, which will in turn add to the pool of potential customers for 'Advertising'"....."
and that whole post is relevant to the article because ........
answers on a postcard
I worked for a large Aerospace company in Britain for many years, they decided to do a data centre consolidation to reduce costs.
On the Friday night they took the systems offline, backed them up and on Saturday shipped all of the tapes by road to the new site some 150 miles away. By 7pm on the Saturday they had failed on a critical milestone so the person in charge of overseeing the migration called for it to be reversed.
The driver of the truck after dumping his load of tapes at the new site had driven the 150 miles home and was busying himself in the pub. The area where the new site was was pretty sparse in trucking companies and as it was pre internet no online resource to find any. They ended up hiring a fleet of taxis to bring the thousands of tapes back in their boots, back seats, passenger footwells and probably ashtrays as well.
By Sunday evening the systems had been restored. As the doors to the server room had been wide open since Friday things were getting a little warm in there. They called maintenance to have a look at the chillers to make sure everything was OK. The maintenance guy walked over to the main chiller \ power distribution wall and pulled the server room master power switch and not just the chiller power.
All of the old IBM DASD disk packs powered down, she swore and pushed the power back on spinning the disks back up part way through their spin down cycle.
12 hours later, 5 minutes before the Monday morning shift were due to come in, we managed to get the factory systems online. I had been on overtime since 5pm Friday all the way through.
Next week we tried again, all sorted by 7pm Sat so not so good an earner
"I've been meaning to delete my account there for a long while. This is a good reminder to actually do it."
and why ???
If this had been put in openoffice or another open source application most of the nay-sayers on here would be applauding it - but Microsoft noooooooooooooooo
Its not on by default, you have to go find it, don't like it, don't look for it - simples
Tedious
"There is no scientific proof that global climate change is due to human activity. And even if there was what can anyone do about it? If you want to be useful then come up with a practical solution. Otherwise stuff a sock in it already. Because we're already doing the absolute best that we can right now. But if you think you can do better then show me."
and the earth is flat and dinosaurs ruled the world only ............ well today in the US anyway
"But some of us very much prefer an obnoxious loudmouth who appears to be fundamentally sane "
the men in the white van with the cuddle jacket are heading your way right now Archtech
if anyone feels he looks "fundamentally sane " they either have serious issues or deserve all he doles out (or they own a coalmine).
"Even the original Steele/Orbis reports are unconfirmed and are based on hearsay/rumours from Russian "sources""
No matter,
if someone is alleged of collusion with foreign agents by people from that country, then it has to be investigated regardless of whether you think the chances of it being real are 0%
Its the old Michael Jackson thing all over again.
Jacko is accused of something, his fans all say nay, his detractors all say yay
Trump fans will never agree that these need to be investigated and his constant attempts to subvert the course of justice certainly say something to me.
Open the doors, let them in, if you've nothing to hide they will go away - simples
"By all means bash them for the stuff they do. Not the stuff you didn't like over a decade ago."
Wouldn't mind that
its the bashing them no matter what they do I find tedious
other month they introduced new accessibility features, they got slated on here and not by anyone who uses or needs accessibility features - just whining penguins....
Wait..... !!!!! Hmmmm, might have answered an unasked question there
I was with a friend at his work one evening in a petrol station when David Beckham stopped in to fill his car, he came into the shop and realised he hadn't brought his wallet out. He asked if he could pop home and come back with the wallet, my mate said yes - but the car stays on the forecourt. DB said come on, you know who I am, I'm not going to do a runner.
My friend pointed past me to a folder on a shelf - "those are the rules I work to, it states quite clearly car must remain on forecourt - nowhere does it say "Unless that person is David Beckham""
My choice of Manchester City shirt that night was perfect.
Around that time I was working in a hotel to make some extra cash, one morning I was putting the buffet out for breakfast with a hungry group of customers waiting, a guy walked out in front of me and said "get me 2 poached eggs", I politely said "certainly sir, as soon as I've finished putting the buffet out I will sort that for you" he shouted in my face "NO! Now!!"
I turned to the rest of the queue and said to the guests "apologies ladies and gentleman, this gentleman obviously feel he is far more important than you are, please excuse me". As I turned and walked away I saw the 10 or so people there turn on this guy calling him every name under the sun. I fully expected the sack, but when my manager dragged me in he said that all of the people in the queue had been to see him saying I deserved a medal for not planting him. I got a pat on the back and was told to carry on the good work.
"Everyone knows the TARDIS runs on Linux......."
rot, the episodes are only 50 mins or so, they'd spend all the time having to type out where he wanted to go in extremely long long hand.
Add in the fact that if he had problems he would get replies like "well there's your problem, what the hell do you want to go to that planet for FFS?????" to any requests for help....
All my questions have not had answers that are discoverable by Google before or I would have found it and sorted it (I'm a man - I don't ask for directions unless its a last resort).
The crap starts as soon as I mention its for Windows integration - then - as in these forums - any mention of Microsoft is greeted by derision.
Your answer is (as I expected from someone supporting - if not one yourself) the penguinistas in question. I have been an ardent follower of Linux since the early days, unfortunately the attitude in Linux user environments towards Microsoft products that most of the world chooses to purchase and use is to say the least deplorable. It seems that many in the community don't believe in choice when it comes to operating systems other than Linux but will happily shout that people should choose Linux at every opportunity.
The world has space for all OS's, just wish people would get over that and stop the garbage - maybe - maybe then the days of Linux on the desktop just might happen - until then anyone considering the move - one look in the forums will sure as hell put them off (as will LT himself).
