The Register is posting so much BULLSHIT these days, mostly propaganda set to whip up the usual negative thoughts in the thick, the dumb and the mostly stupid public. I thin it's about time I started to pay for REAL science news and subscribe to the various science journals such as....
https://www.newscientist.com/ or https://royalsociety.org/journals/ or https://www.ibms.org/go/media/publications/british-journal-biomedical-science or https://uk.sagepub.com/en-gb/eur/Journals or www.scientific-journals.co.uk/ or http://highwire.stanford.edu/lists/freeart.dtl or www.freefullpdf.com/
I want to read real science, not this puerile mug capturing rubbish that says everything about the author, someone so poor at his job that he/she has to write such garbage, someone so inept he or she cannot obtain employment as a proper science journalist.
Personally, I wouldn't put this guy in charge of a wheelbarrow. My account is now being closed.
Hey, turn down that radio, it's alien season and we're hunting aliens
Re: I for one take 2
I will suggest you study radio propagation before buying any HF transceiver. It's like telling a 5-year-old you have bought him his very own motor vehicle. Comprehension of ALL aspects of radio propagation and the F1-F2-E-layer and D-layer should be studied and fully absorbed before opening the box. g6ypk QTHR and QRZ.com
The hydrogen line is chosen because the radio noise is far lower at those frequencies, this, listening for ultra-weak signals become less problematic. Even to, on has to cryogenically perform front end miracles. "The Water Hole"? Never heard of this before, must be made up journalistic claptrap.
Nothing will be found. I emailed the extra terrestrials and asked them to keep quiet.

Secret Tunnels
My brothers used to modify rail early 20th century tunnels in the UK to veer off into hillsides. the work was done at night so the spoils could be removed. Before work started and after when it was all finished at a dead end, they were told, under threat of life imprisonment, not to say a word. It was a government project so you did as you were told. Pete only told me about it the week before he died, as we looked through old photos he had taken off the site. It's a funny old world, eh?

Norton Internet Security antivirus update 'borked Internet Explorer'
Symatic Ripp-Off
In the early days Norton was good, really good. Then they sold out to Symantec who were in it for the money only, changing the cover every now and then to keep the plebeians happy.
What did they get? Well, they got the same un-updated program that slowed your computer to a crawl.
They took your cash and laughed all the way to the bank.
You mugs! The amount of real (good and free) malware programs out there are too numerous to name, but for god's (Odin's) sake dump this Norton trash and grow up!.

Donald Trump wants Bill Gates to 'close the Internet', Jeff Bezos to pay tax
FREE SPEECH AND D. TRUMP
Mr Trump's idea of closing down some of the internet is the thin edge of the wedge. He shouts that some will argue against losing free speech.
I will, say this... If you consider giving up your some or even all of your rights, then you don't deserve to have any rights. You will then live in a dictatorship, where the government, on a whim, can screw your life up and without a care leave you open to attack from outside influences and forces.
If you want to give up your rights, then go ahead. After all, as Mr Trump has said, America is full of idiots.

Microsoft
Word has it that Microsoft wrote the code. If this is true, and it would not surprise me it it were correct, then what else do you expect?
However: If not, and, knowing the job ALWAYS goes to the lowest bidder, then one can be assured, that, as is ALWAYS the case, if you pay peanuts you get monkeys.
I would look closely at the features of the programmer's face (just make sure he is not of another country), that is, of Chinese decent, made up up to look as if he-she is of Japanese decent.
There again, if the Chinese can look about inside the CIA; MSA: the Pentagon; the White-House and play about, then uploading duff software to replace the original would be child's play to a good Chinese hacker. Well done China, You topped America again.
Rosetta probot drilling denied: Philae has its 'leg in the air'
I was going to be childish and retort to the American, mentioning the two space shuttles that blew up and the many rockets they had lost on or just off the launch-pad; oh and the Mars lander that missed Mars by just under 1 million miles, but I thought better of it. Then I realised that NASA never makes errors. In that case I apologise, realizing those pictures and films of the above were from Hollywood, made for Sci-Fi adventure films. Silly me.
