UK.gov to press ahead with online smut checks (but expects £10m in legals in year 1)

chris121254

Re: This isn't about porn

Thing is we are not halfway there let alone a quarter there.

There government has failed so far to censor the internet in anyway.

chris121254

Re: Thin end of the wedge

Unlikely Disqus company will be running all the forums or the sites where you can post anything are going to blocked.

And you wont be force to use a ID to use the internet.

chris121254

It's not illegal without verification of identity at least viewing is not.

chris121254

Re: This isn't about porn

In the end they will never be able to control are internet access.

And we are not halfway.

UK.gov admits porn age checks could harm small ISPs and encourage risky online behaviour

chris121254

Re: Age verification

There already Age Verification at the ISP on the online gambling...

But in the end censorship and totalitarianism will not work and AV will fail and will likely fall apart and never end up blocking or putting AV anything.

chris121254
Facepalm

Thing is we dont even know if they will enforce this or put blocks in place, This could fall apart soon and never get enforced.

chris121254

I hear they are going to leave sites like Twitter and Tumblr alone.

chris121254

Unlikely a white list will work and they wont be able to put a Great British Firewall in place (they try to put one in place many times before but failed)

chris121254

Re: Let's continue wondering down this slippery slope

And in the end they will never grab control of the internet.

UK.gov admits Investigatory Powers Act illegal under EU law

chris121254

It would be very hard to repeal the Human Rights Act and they quietly abandoned there commitment to repeal it.

chris121254

Re: And then there's brexit...

May cant remove us from ECHR jurisdiction or revoke existing Human Rights legislation or enact some new Bill of Rights now because she lost her majority in the election, and it likely she will be kicked out soon so it wont get worse but it wont get better.

Just delete the internet – pr0n-blocking legislation receives Royal Assent

chris121254

Re: I foresee a time...

Unlikely they will at least anytime soon and even then it would be hard to block them.

chris121254

Re: William Wallace

You will never take away our VPNS!

chris121254

Re: I foresee a time...

Very unlikely when we have VPN and Tor to get round this

chris121254

Its unlikely they will be able to stop people getting to porn sites imho but this is still worrying, there were amendments that were passed to make its less bad like making the definition of porn sites more clear and making sure sites like Reddit are not blocked at least to my knowledge.

Even then there no no legal compulsion for them to stop porn and its very unlikely they will put AV on Reddit, Twitter, Tumblr or any other site as the ORG says.

https://www.openrightsgroup.org/blog/2016/is-the-government-misleading-the-lords-about-blocking-twitter

This is still a bad bill turn into a bad law.

Its unlikely blocking of sites or AV will begin anytime soon especially now that there a election. My guess we will see what happens after June 8th

It's happening! It's happening! W3C erects DRM as web standard

chris121254

Re: chris121254 - "improve online privacy"

many are fighting to make sure that are freedoms are not eroded, and has DRM moved to farm equipment and coffee makers? can anyone back that up? but there has been a huge push back against most forms of DRM.

are digital freedoms and all forms of freedom are not being steadily erode because many are fighting to protect them and you can help by supporting the EFF and ACLU

Re: "improve online privacy"

Open Source will win over DRM in the end hopefully

WTF is up with the W3C, DRM and security bods threatened – we explain

chris121254

Re: Open the Door

Well this is not the beginning of the end but more like the end of the beginning and many dont want to see DRM expand to cover everything, hopefully none of that happens and even if it did I can see it being hard to enforce. Most end uesrs dont want to give up control of what they do.

Planned Espionage Act could jail journos and whistleblowers as spies

chris121254

Re: "the job they were given proved too big to have time to talk to journalists and editors."

um yes we can fall back on the ECHR, they already said they wont be able to get rid of it until sometime after 2020 and that if they win in 2020 but that unlikely

Axe net neutrality? Keep the set-top box lock-in? Easy as Pai: New FCC boss backs Big Cable

chris121254

Re: "local franchising, zoning, permitting, and rights-of-way regulations."

In the end they wont be able to "zone" the internet, it would be very hard

chris121254

if you want to help protect Net Neutrality you should support groups like ACLU and the Electronic Frontier Foundation and Free Press who are fighting to keep Net Neutrality.

With net neutrality pretty much dead in the US, your privacy is next

chris121254

I find your lack of faith disturbing

chris121254

Re: So what's next?

its unlikely it will become the norm on the Internet because so many people are using ad blockers and ad walls do not work and will lead to outrage if they try that

chris121254

Re: So what's next?

a ban on ad blockers would be very hard to enforce and would lead to outrage

chris121254

they wont as long as we fight to stop them and many already are, Net neutrality is not dead

chris121254

net neutrality is not dead yet and many are fighting to keep it

that is why we must take this law down in court and I already know Liberty and the Open Rights Group is taken it to court soon so we must support them

chris121254
Black Helicopters

sadly the internet is already a place where you have to watch your every move and most dont anyway and this law is unlikely to change that... ignorance is bliss here in the UK and worldwide... tho VPN Tor and other stuff is going to become the norm on the internet soon.

chris121254
Alert

Re: So, El-Reg

well that only a amendment right now and it does not have Gov backing so its likely it wont pass and if you want to help it not pass sign this https://www.openrightsgroup.org/campaigns/digital-economy-bill-hub/stop-uk-censorship-of-legal-content,

tho its unlikely the sites will be blocked anytime soon and if they did you are going to see a huge spike in VPN use in the UK (and its already happening over the IPbill)

Re: Meanwhile in Turkey....

rational minds will prevail in the end and many of them have just look at the article 50 court ruling but you are right a bit but I dont think she will able to pass British Bill of Rights and other stuff, most in the UK who voted leave seem to want us to stay in the EU after seeing how bad and evil May and her some amount of pro brexit are.

but I dont think we will leave the EU in the end but we need to keep fighting the Torys and kick them out if there a early election and hopefully we will win in the end.

chris121254

Re: Meanwhile in Turkey....

Are a small minority

chris121254

I just want to say that most of the UK public are against this spying bill and against a hard brexit, the ones who want this are a small minority of right wingers, anyway in the end brexit will fall apart and May will be kick out.

chris121254

Re: Meanwhile in Turkey....

you know most in the UK are pro EU right and the one wanting it to be like turkey minority also the brexit protest is not going to work

Re: You're missing the point

but it looks like there wont be any website blocking but instead fines so how are they Implementing a Great Firewall if there not blocking sites? and even if they did what are they going to do about VPNs and Proxys and Tor? and many people dont support this so I think you are missing the point here and there will always be free pr0n in the UK if they like it or not, website blocking has never work btw
