The FBI lost this round against Apple – but it aims to win the war

JB77

THINK THE FBI IS DONE WITH APPLE?

Do I trust the FBI to tell the truth? No, I do not.

Do I have a "need to know?" No, I do not.

Do I think the FBI really cracked the phone? No, I do not.

Will I ever know the truth about who killed JFK? No, I do not.

Think the FBI will ever come clean on this matter? No, I do not.

OBSERVATION

What a incredible and miraculous convenience for the FBI's "fat" to be pulled from the fire at the last instant. Even more miraculous is the fact the they were able to extricate their collective embarrassed butts from the public's scorn.

Does the FBI plan on a second bite at Apple? Sorry - unable to resist :)

I think so.

The FBI made a horrific miscalculation. They thought the combination of a terrorist attack in the USA combined with multiple murders would sway the public opinion and Apple would knuckle under and install a backdoor in all their products. And in the process, justify a legal precedent to place backdoors in every electronic data device. They even had a backup plan - demand the manufacturer's source code. They got neither and rightly so.

However, this was only the first round. A warm-up round if you will.

Expect more shenanigans :(

US govt says it has cracked killer's iPhone, legs it from Apple fight

JB77

Re: Do as we ask...

Actually, Apple was given the best gift - ever!

The gift of "tipping their hand".

Apple, as well as the rest of the world, now knows that the FBI wants access to ALL secrets, everywhere. And now that Apple, and the rest of the world, is "armed" with that knowledge, Apple, and others in the tech community, will make their products even stronger.

JB

JB77

Wait for it...

As I write this message, Apple is testing newer and more complex versions of its encryption systems. Live it up while it lasts, FBI. Be happy knowing all you have done is to push Apple ( and the rest of the tech community) to develop and employ stronger encryption.

For that, I say: "Thank you FBI !"

FBI backs down against Apple: Feds may be able to crack killer's iPhone without iGiant's help

ITS ALWAYS BEEN ABOUT TIME AND MONEY

TIME AND MONEY

Big Brother (FBI / NSA / CIA) is alive and well, but a little disappointed today.

All those lies Big Brother has been spinning hasn't worked out. However, the current campaign to steal mass data has been mildly effective. U.S. Congressional clowns are considering new laws to spy on the public - worldwide.

You ask, "Why don’t they just continue the way the have in the past!"

I say: "Because of the time and costs involved."

Here's a question for you:

What do you think the cost is to 'crack' an encrypted cellphone (hardware) or ANY data message? Remember, each instance will have a unique personal encryption key and will need to be done individually."

$10,000 ?

$1,246,307.08 ?

More?

Less?

1) Come up with a guess.

2) Multiple your guess by every encrypted data packet known and unknown to mankind created in the past year.

3) Print estimated yearly cost here: __________________________________________________

See the point?

The FBI / NSA / CIA does NOT have the money. Their combined budgets are not even close. Have I mentioned how much time (money), research (money), hardware (money), lawsuits (lots of money), etc. (money), is involved?

No? Better triple that number above.

So, what's a body to do? Backdoor (s)?

Big Brother: "Were working on bringing the cost down."

You and me: "How?"

"Bend over, please…"

Snowden WAS the Feds' quarry in Lavabit case, redaction blunder reveals

JB77

Yah think?

Wow! Only 2 years to figure that out ?

The ghost of Lars Levison's website is laughing at you.

Actually, that's second intel community blunder made this week. 1st was an idiot judge that referred to the NSA program, "PRISM", in a court document.

Bill Gates denies iPhone crack demand would set precedent

JB77

Are you on crack?

No offense Bill Gates, but seriously, ... are you on crack?

You might be okay with giving away YOUR privacy but I'm not giving away mine.

Do I trust the FBI ? Hell, no. They screwed up the phone to begin with. Now they want Tim Cook to "fix it for them".

"Just this one time, PLEASE, PLEASE, pretty PLEASE..." (begs)

Go away Bill. Smoke your pipe..

FBI iPhone unlock order reaction: Trump, Rubio say no to Apple. EFF and Twitter say yes

Send an email to Tim Cook at Apple.

Send an email to Tim Cook at Apple. Let him know you support him. I did.

Tim's email is:

tcook@apple.com

Here's what I said, "I fully support your decision in this matter."

Nothing fancy. Just let him know how you feel about this. Think this FBI/US Court demand is "no big deal?"

It doesn't get any bigger than this. If Apple has to comply, every tech company in the USA will be required to follow. And whatever was left of your dwindling privacy will disappear - forever.

Apple CEO Tim Cook: Email keyword sniffing? We'd NEVER do that!

"Is this what you talking about:

"Increased the time for warrantless surveillance from 48 hours to 7 days, if the FISA court is notified and receives an application, specific officials sign the emergency notification, and relates to an American located outside of the United States with probable cause they are an agent of a foreign power. After 7 days, if the court denies or does not review the application, the information obtained cannot be offered as evidence. If the United States Attorney General believes the information shows threat of death or bodily harm, they can try to offer the information as evidence in future proceedings.[23] "

Been there - Done that...

I learned NOT to upgrade for at least 1 year after a new release.

I saw this coming months ago. Not the exact date or problem, but still - it was an easy call.

Excuse me. I have to go laff some more :)

Bloke cuffed for blowing low-flying camera drone to bits with shotgun

JB77

Next time just call the cops :)

Drones are considered to be aircraft by the FAA. Go here and read why:

http://www.faa.gov/news/updates/?newsId=76240

The homeowner may own some rights to the airspace over his property but the control of the airspace belongs to the FAA. At least here in the USA. This means its illegal to shoot at any aircraft: Drones, Boeing777, police helicopters, Navy jets, blimps, etc. All aircraft are subject to the the control and laws of the FAA regarding flying.

What will happen to him? He will pay a fine for discharging a weapon unlawfully in public, repay the drone owner for his loss AND the FAA may or may not decide to prosecute him.

He SHOULD have just called the cops instead of taking the law into his own hands.

Squashed bug opened EVERY PayPal account to hijacking

JB77

PLEASE LOCK THE VAULT DOOR WHEN FINISHED

Try this:

1) Buy something paying with a vendor accepting PayPal. Select "Pay with PayPal".

2) Make a PayPal via the PayPal supplied app on the vendor's page

3) After finishing with the PayPal payment, you will be returned to the vendor site where you made the purchase.

4) Now your THINK you are logged out of your PayPal account. Let's check...

5) Type this EXACTLY, into your browser:

paypal.com

Press ENTER. Bingo! Your back into your PayPal account.

IT'S STILL OPEN!

That's because the account wasn't closed by the vendors app or by PayPal.

6) While on this page, locate the "sign out" on your PayPal page. Execute it.

Now you are really logged out. Don't believe me? Goto #5 and repeat.

I actually called PayPal over 2 years ago, spoke to "Security" and complained about this. They said. "No big deal. The account will close itself after 10 minutes of inactivity".

Think this practice isn't very, very bad? Look up "MIM attack".

And they STILL haven't fixed it!

Listen: WORST EVER customer service call – Comcast is 'very embarrassed'

JB77

Re: Just tell them you've sold your house

I tried something like that back in 2007 when I called AT&T and asked to have my cellphone service cancelled.

The nice lady said, "Oh, we can move your service to another location".

I said I was moving to India (true). She hesitated and then said, "let me check".

A minute or so later, she says, "Nooo, sorry. We have no service plans there. You'd be on roaming- very expensive."

But, she was not done.

"How about keeping the number until you get back?" "No I said, I'll be gone for 2 years-minimum."

"How about a relative who would like that number?"

"No", I said.

She finally gave in and cancelled the service.

Her parting shot...

"When you came back give us a call here at AT&T."

Recorder ON..Dials number.

I think the guy was expecting a hard sell - and he was prepared. He knew what was comming and would retaliate by posting it on the innertubes :)

Re: Amazing patience

The quality of the recorded audio is the answer. He planned to do it. Notice how calm and even speaking he was. He was "playing" the guy. Let the salesman run with it. Giving him all the rope the salesman needs to look the fool.

And then like the icing on the cake, he put it on the net for all to enjoy.

Late with your ransom payment? Never mind, CryptoLocker crooks will, er, give you a break

JB77

Dear Semi-intelligent Cyberthugs,

Dear Semi-intelligent Cyberthugs,

To paraphrase the wise and powerful Yoda: "Incredibly stupid are you for collecting ransoms via Bitcoin". Do you really think you cannot be found? Because your using super-uncrackable-double secretive-hyper encrypted-data stream? Uncrackable algorithms?

HA!

Perhaps you have not read about or understand today's espionage capabilities.

The NSA has the capabilities to reveal your true names and address' to the authorities. I have NO DOUBT WHATSOEVER they already know who you are, and where you live, and the color of your eyes. You can expect a rude early morning "wakeup call" and a gun in your face at any time! The tip-off information to the arresting authorities will be anonymous. The NSA does not like the limelight.

My recommendation for you is to destroy any proof of your existence, all the CryptoLocker program files and disappear - NOW! Even that may not help. Perhaps if you publish all know decryption keys? In any event, don't think that the NSA cannot track you. It is not a question of "can they", but "if and when" they want to.

I for one am surprised you have not already been caught. Perhaps if a few more Americans, or possible a US Senator two being snared in your trap, will encourage to NSA to act. Maybe the NSA will do it to gain some much needed public sympathy. Something they could really use now.

On second thought, perhaps it's already too late. You seem to have no clue what the REAL capabilities of the NSA are. None. Everything you may read about is old news to those who work or have worked for the NSA in the past. What you will never read about is the programs being developed in secret. The stuff that even Snowden DID NOT have access to. The really scary stuff...

If the NSA wants you "found" - it will happen.

Bail now. Warned you have been!
