I agree completely, I really wish websites would give me the choice of a micro-payment or accept ads. It would be a micro-payment every time and if I didn't think the site was worth that I wouldn't go there.

Not an issue for me, I very rarely listen to music on my phone and need to charge it at the same time; in fact I can't think when I have ever needed to do that in the 3.5 years I've had my current phone. If it was something I actually needed I'd by some Bluetooth ear buds.

I am in the market for a new phone to replace my Nexus 6P and I've narrowed it down to a Pixel 3XL or Oneplus 6T; I'm leaning towards the OnePlus as a £200 saving is quite a chunk of money, but I do worry that updates, or lack thereof, could be an issue.

Unfortunately in the model you propose, and as it happened, broadband prices got lower and lower, each ISP undercutting the others, to the point that the only way it could be profitable was to massively over subscribe their service; relying on the ones that just use their connection for email and web browsing to subsidise the ones that used their connection for gaming, streaming services etc. Eventually nobody could get anywhere near the connection speed they were paying for outside of very off-peak hours.

Actually, my experience proves the opposite, I have friends that are not in anyway "IT Comfortable" that chose high end Android devices simply because they liked to be able individualise the Home Screens. Now, possibly these friends could be the exception rather than the rule I suppose.

Or try using Arriva Ticket App that, between 07:00 and 09:00 and 16:00 and 18:00 routinely shows the error "unable to connect to server, please check you signal or wireless connection"; even with a full four bars of 4G and everything else on the phone is managing to find their respective servers. with no problem whatsoever.

This exactly; Lenovo's RMA/Technical support has to be the worst of the major manufacturers to the point that they completely refuse to RMA a machine that was delivered with chassis damage. Lenovo state that no machines leave their plant with physical damage so it must have been transit damage; transit sourced and supplied by Lenovo mind you.

Considering the awful build quality of Lenovo products you would think their RMA system would run like a well oiled machine.

One of the benefits of buying a "high-end smartphone" is that it *can" last longer than three years before it starts to slow down and the battery fails.

I have a Nexus 6P that is now three and a half years old and is still working with no issues, including the battery still allowing a full day of pretty heavy use.

This would not have been true had I bought whatever the budget smart phone of the time was, as they quite often begin somewhat "slow" and get worse from there on wards.

I must admit the price of the Nexus 6P is more "budget" these days :)

Not sure how our economic model is any different, nor why we would want it to be different, from other EU countries?

Nothing is stopping them from doing just that; they can take the free Android kernel and build their own operating system, incorporating whatever rubbish home developed apps they want to. If they produced one that is better than Fully Googled Android then, just as Chrome beat out IE, they/it would beat out Google,.

The chances are more than 50/50 though that it wouldn't be better and would be so full of Samsung, for instance, rubbish that you couldn't uninstall, and wouldn't be able to change default search, email etc. and would "slurp" your information and data to Samsung rather than Google.

The end of this route is that the only decent option for a mobile phone would be one that is Googles own.

No, whats "ridiculous" is that the internet industry has been allowed to use "Up To" all these years as a part of their advertising.

Most of the negative posts aren't aimed at the device but more at the manufacturer of said device; the device it's self is no better, or worse, than a PixelC or Chromebook, and at least isn't an Apple device which I wouldn't touch with somebody elses barge-pole.

Bottom line, it's a 10 inch tablet and the price isn't far off the Android and iOS equivalent; it runs Windows which does mean that it could be attractive for field engineers, for example, where Windows is a requirement due to software.

Minecraft, and for that matter most Bethesda game, are different; the "unofficial addons" are called mods and both games have sites dedicated to posting and downloading those mods that are moderated with the files virus scanned by the hosting company.

The files themselves are not executable, in the main, and can only be "opened" within the games themselves.

Went through the facial recognition terminals at St Pancras for a Euro-star trip with no issues, and through the ones at Birmingham Airport on the the way back, again with no issues.
