Anonymous plans hacktivism against World Cup sponsors

Jacksonville

Wrong Target, Wrong Method

You're right of course, but they're probably thinking they can persuade the sponsors to put pressure on FIFA to up it's game. Their mistake is that the corporates will do this anyway, or at least eliminate any threat to their investment/bottom line. I just wish Anonymous might put their collective pressure, skillz and energy in non-harmful activism rather than irritating hacktivism.

As an aside I don't think your F4J example is valid. When you get two desperate guys dressing up and hanging off Buck Palace they are doing something about the situation, they are raising awareness of issues which are otherwise ignored in society, law and govt policy. Fatherlessness is a serious business and should receive much much much more attention.

Re: They missed a trick...

I can't remember where I read it, but I saw an attractive proposal on this matter once.

The principle being allow the market to control population... It was effectively a voucher system based on the rights to have children...

Each human being gets the right to reproduce 2/3 of a child. A couple coming together therefore have the right to produce 1.5 children. If they have one, they each have the rights to have 0.25 children left. If they don't want another child they can sell their rights in the market to those that wish to have more. If they do want another child with the same or another partner they would have to go to the market and purchase the additional rights or face a sanction of a fine equivalent to the market value of the right.

Obviously it is riddled with hugely complex obstacles and assumptions... how would religion react, how do you punish those who do not adhere and do not pay the sanction...etc

The proposer suggested that by doing so you immediately reduce the single biggest pressure on overpopulation in the developing world by commoditising not having so many children...

Zoology vs Drama

Way back when I were a lad, I did an undergrad BSc in Zoology, and my GF was doing a BA in Drama & Theatre studies. You only had to do a comparison of our schedules. I did approximately 36 hours per week of scheduled lectures, practicals and projects. She had a 1 hour tutorial session, and the occasional rehearsal.

I remember ending a hectic week, in which I did the normal 36 hours plus about an extra 25 hours of counting Callosobruchus Maculata eggs (tiny things) on cowpeas (small things) and crunching the stats for my thesis. I got home and asked her how her week was and she held up a papier mache mask (with a bent nose) and proudly said "I made this!".

Ever since then I have been ever so slightly prejudiced against liberal arts graduates...

Apple iTV - 42'' iMac

Apple iTV = BIG iMAC

What do you think an Apple iTV, say 42'' model will cost? In the Apple "double it and add a zero" cost model, Considering a current 27'' iMac model is £1600 I'm thinking ~ £2200 - £2400.

Regardless of cost it'll fly off the shelf.
