Re: If you do have an abort mode...
One of the fears for Apollo was they'd land safely, roam around and then the ascent module would fail to launch. Imagine staring at the distant Earth with your last remaining oxygen. Doesn't bear thinking about.

If we are facing a Threads style attack then I - like many here - would sooner go in the first flash. If however we are talking about a limited exchange (and God forbid even that should happen), then some sound advice is worth heading.

In short, staying indoors could make a very big difference to your life expectancy.
Regarding doppler shift in a car:
Speed of light = 1 billion Km/hour
Speed of Car = 100 Km/hour
Speed of Car as fraction of Speed of Light = 0.0000001
Not saying you are wrong, but the channels to Starlink must be pretty narrow for doppler shift to be a problem.
I have it on good authority there will be a content filter, to ensure that only PG-rated material is conveyed through drinking water pipes. R-rated and higher material (everything from "oo-er" through to "utter filth") will be conveyed through the sewage pipes. Appropriate given the amount of shit that gets downloaded these days.
Yes, I remember ATM (and FDDI) being the next big thing. I remember one glossy magazine stating around 1996:
ATM is the answer if the question is how do I service the telephony needs of a small country whilst also providing space heating and a light show
And all the while Ethernet just got incrementally better.
I was a late starter - autumn '97 downloaded via ftp. Took all afternoon to get the A and N disks. The next day I treated myself to the D and X and apps ones. Then the token ring driver wouldn't work. On the plus side I did work out how to wire IBM type 1 to pass 10-base-T Ethernet. That's the thing about this level of engagement - you learn all about the tech you use.
