New lawsuit: Why do Android phones mysteriously exchange 260MB a month with Google via cellular data when they're not even in use?

MyffyW Silver badge

As somebody comfortably into her fifth decade and native of these sceptre'd isles I say we call it a phone. Years ago when Left-Pondian colleagues said "let me just grab my cell" the mind boggled at what realms of biology, BDSM or other ephemera they were referring to.

They’ve only gone and bloody done it – yawn – again! NASA, SpaceX send four to ISS

Is deltaV also a factor? Odd as it sounds to send something towards the sun, and then decelerate, can actually be harder than sending something outwards. Not sure about Venus, but I've heard it touted as a reason why it's so damned hard to get in orbit around Mercury.

Alas, it might be difficult with plain old bullets, but with a trebuchet and a farmyard animal it might be a perfect opportunity to observe the velocity of sheep in air.

I think we have previously identified a high pressure water jet as reasonably effective and fairly benign when it falls to earth. Note, though, most jurisdictions do not allow you to take pot shots at drones even over your own land.

Re: Putin? Border?

Is it possible Putin will send the tanks in to Poland? Not unless he wanted a bloodbath.

Is it possible he'd send them into the Baltic states? Maybe, but the NATO battle tanks would still be loading into the C-5s (or A400Ms) whilst Vlad was stripping to the waist for a homo-erotic wrestle in Vilnius.

Not saying we should get rid of the tank but modern warfare is asymmetric, fast paced and rarely follows the playbook of the last campaign. Entirely right we consider all options.

I'm not sure whether Dido Harding is the best we can do, but she's entirely in line with the C-Suite career laundering that seems to pass for meritocracy these days.
