As somebody comfortably into her fifth decade and native of these sceptre'd isles I say we call it a phone. Years ago when Left-Pondian colleagues said "let me just grab my cell" the mind boggled at what realms of biology, BDSM or other ephemera they were referring to.

Be very afraid! British Army might scrap battle tanks for keyboard warriors – report
Re: Putin? Border?
Is it possible Putin will send the tanks in to Poland? Not unless he wanted a bloodbath.
Is it possible he'd send them into the Baltic states? Maybe, but the NATO battle tanks would still be loading into the C-5s (or A400Ms) whilst Vlad was stripping to the waist for a homo-erotic wrestle in Vilnius.
Not saying we should get rid of the tank but modern warfare is asymmetric, fast paced and rarely follows the playbook of the last campaign. Entirely right we consider all options.
Fusion boffins apply plasma know-how to building thrusters
Re: YES !
And just for the sake of completeness let me mention the original Project Orion - a 3000 tonne space craft launched from earth by nuclear bombs, with fusion being a significant portion of the energy budget.
Even post-comprehensive test ban treaty we could use it anywhere outside the Earths magnetosphere with little impact on human health.

So... just 'Good' then? KFC pulls Finger Lickin' slogan while pandemic rumbles on
Re: Stats
I'll bleat because KFC has very definitely got worse over time. The staff seem to lack any motivation whatsoever, routinely get the order wrong and couldn't give a flying F when something goes wrong. Staff in McDonalds are superstars by comparison.
I'm not a fast food fascist - I actually enjoy fried chicken, McDonalds, BK and their like. But KFC is dire...

Re: What are they going to do with the heat?
I don't disagree that space is indeed big. And it is also cold (when not bathing in radiation from a rather large fusion source 93 millions miles away). But getting rid of heat by electromagnetic radiation alone is not trivial. Good luck to potential applicants.

Re: Eye-opening claim
I had the cutest little MGF once that (myriad mechanical defects aside) routinely swallowed my keys into it's boot. Whereupon I would have the opportunity to try public transport, or try walking 5 miles in inappropriate footwear, or finding out which of my friends with cars would come and pick me up. Oh the joys! But I always had a backup (sort of).

Baroness Dido Harding lifts the lid on the NHS's manual contact tracing performance: 'We contact them up to 10 times over a 36-hour period'
Re: The UK's chief stable door shutter.
I'm not sure whether Dido Harding is the best we can do, but she's entirely in line with the C-Suite career laundering that seems to pass for meritocracy these days. It seems somebody makes a bit of a horlicks of leading something and a year or two later they pop-up in a similarly well-paid roll and are given another opportunity to "serve".
In a more just society her penance for the Talk-Talk fiasco would have been obscure and worthy good deeds.
NASA mulls going all steam-punk with a fleet of jumping robots to explore Saturn and Jupiter's mysterious moons
Re: Nuclear?
Use of a RTG should rattle certain peoples cages although I'm all for the atom-punk aesthetic myself. I really don't see the problem with certain chemical propulsion (e.g. LOX and Kerosene) although I'l admit we probably don't want to drop unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine onto any putative lifeforms. Orange is so last decade.
