Said background noise is just <insert National Security Office of flavor here> just listening in. Gotta make sure that you are doing things above board and all that :).

Microsoft: A new Windows 10 build arrives while another remains in hiding

Facepalm

And, if you are running BattleEye, it seems the new build does not like it and will not install until it is removed (had to remove it from the wife's system (son used to use it for gaming)). Then there was the driver screw up with my Killer AC Wireless driver (had to uninstall and reinstall the same damn driver). My son's desktop was still churning through the last little bits of the update for an additional hour after he logged into the system. Two identical laptops took forever (both were Intels), yet all the rest were done within a couple hours (most are AMD based).

Probably did not help with the updates when my WSUS server was also restarting from the updates it had.

Dell's reasons to be fearful (1,2,3): Intel chip supplies, trade tariffs and slowing server sales in sagging Chinese economy

Will NEVER buy a Dell again...

After buying a POS Alienware 15R2 that is more a lap warmer while surfing the web than anything else, then follow that up with 2 Dell Gaming 15s, and finally a Dell G3. All 4 bought over the past 3 years. The Alienware I called for support and they install a software that my AV software reports as a virus (needless to say a reinstall was shortly after that call), then I start getting calls from "Dell Concierge" saying my system has a virus. Yeah, riiiiight.

Fast forward to the 2 Gaming 15s, and a keyboard had the keys pop off a year after purchasing the laptops, they wanted to charge me $80 for a new keyboard when I had purchased their best warranty. Found out that the warranty was good for a one time "oops" per year, which this was not.

Then the last straw was ordering the G3. It was to be my daughter's birthday/graduation gift. It was to show up 3 days before her birthday (I asked three times to ensure I had the date right), giving me just enough time to re-image the system with a fresh install of the OS to remove all the bloatware that Dell loves so much. I call three days prior to find out the tracking label as the site showed it "in route". Was told they had no shipping information as it was in the middle of the Pacific. WTF! The day it was supposed to arrive on my doorstep I finally get a tracking number, and it is coming FedEx Ground from California. I blew a gasket, called them up and chewed them up one side and down the other trying to get them to get it to me next day. They offered me $100 of stuff off the Dell site to try and calm me down. Told them this was the final straw, and that I would be closing my account out.

The G3 incident was last year. I am so glad I will never order crap from them again. All the above systems I purchased the best possible warranty for (4yr on-site premium support), and aside from the Alienware normally get someone that I can barely understand. Yeah, never a again Dell, rot in Hell.

Microsoft lobs Windows 10, Server Oct 2018 update at world (minus file-nuking 'feature') after actually doing some testing

WTF?

And it has also hit WSUS at the same time

Most times, these major releases are staved off a couple months for WSUS admins. This time, the re-release of 1809 is also being pushed to WSUS. Guess I will not be allowing that update for a couple more months.

T-Mobile US let hackers nick my phone number, drain my crypto-wallets, cries man who lost $20k

Re: You have to call T-Mobile Customer Care

Here is the text message they are sending out (for any that are curious):

T-Mobile Alert: We have identified an industry-wide phone number port out scam and encourage you to add account security. Learn more: t-mo.co/secure

I had a pin on my account to begin with, had to set a stronger one. My original pin was 4 digits, they upped it to 6 digits. If the 4 digit pin will not save me, WTH will a 6 digit??

Brit folk STILL not getting advertised broadband speeds – survey

garou1674

Wait, let me get this straight. The UK, with Fiber to every home, is not getting the speeds they should?

Hell CenturyLink (fiber to the node, copper to the home) in the US advertises UpTo XXMbps, and in the fine print it states "at least 80% of speed", otherwise they down grade your line to the next tier down (and you pay less) or they fix the problem. Of course, getting them to upgrade the DSLAM to provide the "advertised speed" is a problem, and getting the upgraded DSLAMs registered in their systems with the new speeds are an even bigger problem. If you do not get that 80% of speed, CenturyLink will give you a credit for the number of months that you have not.

Even with Crap-tastic Comcast, you will get the same UpTo XXMbps with the caveat of "depending on available bandwidth". Of course, dealing with Comcast's shitty customer support will get you naught but anger and aggravation. However, you start talking about canceling their service, and BOOM! free 2-3 months of the next tier up speed.

Every one of those UpTo XXMbps should have a caveat that if they do not meet, you should be able to get a refund. Granted I do not know much about the UK's laws, however, money does talk. If you do not like what you have, starting to talk about changing providers should get the lazy corps there off their backsides to bring better service.

Microsoft's Windows 8.1 secrets REVEALED ... sort of

garou1674
FAIL

Windows 8.x == Windows 3.x

When Win8 was previewed for the world, I knew that Microsoft had created another Windows ME/Vista version of their OS. Now, with version 8.1, I am starting to have flash backs to Windows 3.x. Yeah, before there was a Start button or even a Start menu. Hell, let's skip the bloatware called Windows 8.x and go directly back to Windows 3.1. After all, that is apparently where Sinofsky's fondest memories are.
