When Windows "security" becomes "extortion", customers will start looking elsewhere...time for Linux?

Win XP almost worked. At least I could kill a meandering app without a restart. But by then my Linux box was still wild but tamable and had some apps, so I switched (old journalist/engineer) and I "bent it to my will". Never looked back. About 2002..."These days, kids don't know how lucky they are..." or something.
Exactly. Most computer users don't know or care what OS is on the thing, so long as it gets the job done. How quaint? They don't care about the model of taxi they take, bus they ride or plane the fly on, either. Strange? Linux evangelists can be so tedious about Windows heresy sometimes but we abide. I use Linux because it gets my jobs done, My wife's corporate Windows machine gets her jobs done. Then we have dinner...
More Nazi (Uki) propaganda? Russia has its own satellite and standard encrypted military comms. I watch their reports and vids daily. Ukraine's systems were knocked out early, though Russia has left phone comms alone (to monitor stupid Nazis and NATO mercs calling home?) Starlink has almost been destroyed, too, not that it's much use without ammo for weapons - and troops to man them. Regardless, Elon could track "rogue" IMEIs , and disable them if they existed. Much ado...
So Edge throws ads at you...Bing shows ads...the back of a bus shows ads. Do you buy these products like some zombie with no PFC? Am I the only one whose hackles rise when I detect an ad, arm my self to reject it and move on? Kids must be protected until their PFC is functional (age 20-25!) but if so-called adults are so easily seduced by a flicker of light or color, they need to stay in a quiet room.
Ironically, Marx was pro-Capitalism. His Manifesto warned of Capitalism's harshness alienating workers and starting a Communist revolution, The capitalists listened (a little), treated workers like humans and quelled the revolt. But they didn't read Das Capital vol 3, which predicted the next disaster (which we now see) of Finance Capitalism displacing real production, leading to ...out sourcing, loss of skills and decline. Marx must be saying, "Told you so..."
The NHTSA "news" is biased against Tesla, which is the most popular EV in the world, safest car in the US (crash tests proved), has fewer accdients/fatalities (proved), fewer fires than ICE vehicles. BUT won't use Lidar. Which NHTSA board member is a major investor in Lidar? True, FSD is misnamed but still safer than manual car control. Musk hate is relentless from the mediocre (and dividend hungry), as expected.
Yeah, what've the Chinese ever done? Paper money, gunpowder, rockets, printing, mass production, steell refining, astronomy, power looms - about 1,000 yrs before the West emerged from thatched huts. Compare how many failures ("learning experiences") Musk suffered before success, and China.
When I see "hope" I read "naive loser". Companies don't care about buying new hardware. It's tax deductible and comes with "free" Windows 11. And the wheels keep turning, no new staff training on "weird" software. Admittedly it's corporate extortion, but that's just business. Now go cry in the corner...or glue your foot to the road.
FSD unsafe because Musk refused to use Lidar, says NHTSA director Ann Carlson, who just happens to have a bunch of shares in the company producing Lidar equipment. In tests with Lidar, eg GM's Cruise, their system is less "safe". Ah, profits v. public safety...profits of course.
