Man wins court case against employer that fired him for not liking boozy, forced 'fun' culture

Yeah... seen this before

Worked for a place where "We provide FREE team working events"

The FREE part was giving up your FREE time after work or at weekends NEVER EVER during work day, told me I was missing out, told them I really wasn't.

Intel debuts Arc discrete GPUs for laptops

knarf

Buy the time Intel pulls its finger out it will be too late.

They had a chance and they blew it, took too long to get to market.

6-12 months ago as they promised they could have make an impact and gain some customer loyalty and buy in, but its too late, they're offerings are lackluster as best and way too late for a market that is now swamped with over stock.

The folk that would have purchased a GPU for 2-3 times what its is worth already have a GPU or have waited out the shortage.

Hopefully those scalping &£&&^& &^&^&:@ gits have lots of very overpriced stock they can't sell and make massive losses.

20 Years of me DotNet-ing

Still got my boxed version of VS2002

been a wide ride, but you can get code out quickly and likely most .NET 1.1 code will compile (mostly) today.

It did try stuff then abandon it with ease much to the demoanment of some devs and some of the "experiments" where truly awful.

But on the whole its good to work with.

Re: if your business model cannot withstand reality, it is not reality at fault

Boardrooms and reality are non intersecting entities, its stuffed with power plays, egos, short term bonuses, gouge markets and customers and then its just a roll of the dice.

Intel would really like to slow innovation and enable better R&D return aka profits, this is what they have been doing for years until AMD kept them awake at night. Now Apple is spinning its own ARM (which it gets for free as its in its original funder contract). Now everyone is going.... hmm... if Apple can (MS was there first with ARM PCs, but as always its original effort was lacklustre at best).

Magnanimous Apple will allow people to fix their iPhones using parts bought from its Self Service Repair program

knarf

Cheap Parts even Apple can tell the difference

Reason I like iphones is the cheap parts from Amazon / Ebay,

The iphone 7 I traded in to the Apple shop with a £20 screen from Amazon was good enough to rate it A+ rating. If Apple can't tell its inferior then who can.

Lenovo ThinkPad T14s: Impressively average, which is how corporate buyers like it

knarf

We've loads of T-series and T14s

These are dev workhorses here as it hard to find light laptops with a 40Gb ram (our dev standard) and the cheapish on site support is offered by no one else at this price. We opt for 4 years onsite.

UK altnet CityFibre's boss on its hopes to capitalise on market churn as fibre broadband rolls out

knarf

There are counting people twice

Like me who has choice of Virgin or CityFibre provider.

CityFibre scores extra £1bn+ of funding to plumb in up to 8 million British homes by 2025

knarf

I have two fibre lines

Virgin dug up the street about 4 years ago and stuck fibre in

City Fibre dug up the street 1 year ago and put fibre in.

No idea why I have two when other areas have none.

Choice comes down to, do you want the free BT sports with Virgin.

I can also get very Scottish broadband with https://www.brawband.co.uk/ , Although I think they missed a trick and could have called it Baw Band.

RIP Sir Clive Sinclair: British home computer trailblazer dies aged 81

knarf

ZX81 was a terrible computer,,,,, but I loved it.

Not sure who else could have put a computer that was so cheap in one of the worst housing schemes in Glasgow. Lead to a fairly successfully career in dev for me so worked out well.

RIP Sir Clive.
