A basement of broken kit, zero budget – now get the team running
Let me be very clear, if anyone says there is no budget some one in the chain of command usually more than one is trying to give there boss a blow job (the only exception is when you see bailiffs at the front door). Spend what you need to get the job done and meet compliance, otherwise your not doing a professional job. The trouble is that most IT professional lack training in other areas such as negotiation.

Facebook flat-out 'lies' about how many people can see its ads – lawsuit
Well there are a lot of things I don't like about face book but one of the good things I can say about them as a marketer that has done a lot of online advertising is that the click trough on a advert does seem to be more human, rather than "fake bot clicks" that plague the industry and cost business a lot of money that you might get on "market leading search engines", how do I know well I we use software that track real time mouse movements across a website, and well its quite obvious when its a human.
I wonder why there has never been an investigation into that.

Riddle me this: TypeScript's latest data type is literally unknown
If only the picture of the article contained a script and not a marked-up page. This is an IT blog, people notice these things.
I was forced to use Typescript for making a mobile app using the Ionic platform, the issue with using Typescript is that even though its more legible than JavaScript (which its design to be), there are serious compatibility issues with other packages, so you will most of the time be using an older version in you package.json devDependencies for example Angular-CLI

Google answers 'Why Google Cloud?' with services and spectacle
For years, its been noticeable that google does not do marketing that well, and perhaps resulting a a lack of communication of what Google can do for you and your business. However I am a user of Google Cloud, and I have to say I am quite happy with it.
My usage includes Storage for static images/CDN, Compute for web instances for WordPress and Node, and Firebase/Firestore for Apps (Angular-CLI/Node.js and Mobile Apps) and Firestore for static website (.html) hosting. I have to say I am pleased with the results such as performance and cost. Compared to AWS the way you create and run instances are quite different, so it is hard to compare like for like on smaller instances. I prefer Google Cloud because of the way you can manage each project easily, including separate billing.
For anyone who is curious, you can sign up for Google Cloud and get $150 dollars worth of usage with out paying anything, so say a small WordPress instance with Bitnami would cost $6 a month to run, that's a nice bit of free hosting.
The only downside is that Goole are funny about outgoing emails as they hate spam, though you can send emails via a Google email account credentials (SMTP).

National ID cards might not mean much when up against incompetence of the UK Home Office
ID cards will do little stop domestic terrorism, at the most be able to identify you youths on a drunk night out.
However I suspect that we will all be made to PAY for the ID card of which like facebook (according to an article I read on the reg a few years ago) was selling out personal info to places like the NSA for $2K a pop, I guess selling that with 80 some what million people in the country thats $160Billion for the Treasury, and thats just from one organisation, what about all those medical companies and insurance agencies that would love our data.
What we have to remember is that there are multiple agencies from HM Police to HMRC that want something out of ID cards.

Adobe acquires Magento to go B2B2C and beyond
From my experience Magento (Zend PHP Framework) is a pain to learn, a pain to develop plugins for and there is not really much you cant do with a WordPress site that you cannot with a Magento, the selling point for most is that it should be PCI/DSS compliant over WP.
Personally I see the future with node.js apps rather than a Software built on a PHP Library
