Re: Not their fault.
""Blame companies like Microsoft""
You know there are several Linux versions - including ones that infect NAS systems and websites? And those spread without user interaction!

"It's unclear from this review if the 950 has an even better camera, "
The general consensus is yet it does. See for example
https://blogs.windows.com/devices/2015/12/08/exploring-the-great-barrier-reef-with-national-geographic-and-the-lumia-950-and-lumia-950-xl/

"It seems a shame about WP10, I quite like my phone OS."
WP10 is just fine. You need to install the available updates on the 950 though to fix a number of out of the box bugs.
To follow up after a day of using it - great handset, great camera, no OS issues so far - incredibly fast on Windows Mobile 10.
The one thing I would fault it on is the incredibly poor quality rear cover for such a high spec handset. What were Microsoft thinking? It doesn't actually look that bad, but once you take it off you realise how cheap and crappy the cover is. Fortunately it is easily replaceable by design (as is the battery!)
I have ordered a leather replacement cover from Mozo: http://www.mozoaccessories.com/
"mostly great hardware, now need the software to catch up."
Just got my 950 XL from Amazon.fr today - both the hardware and the software are great so far. Zero issues for me (after updating to the latest 10586.29 build), and its very fast to use / navigate. Fastest phone I have ever used by far.
"not sure if trolling or actually mental"
American imo. Probably watches Fox News all day for the source of the material above...
"Like Mr. Vogon suggested, please learn to write legibly before trying to join in the grownups' conversation."
I couldn't be bothered to give more than a hint! But +1 for effort.
I would be slightly sympathetic if it was clear that English was not the first language, but unfortunately I think the problem is more educational in nature...
"Any implementation of Windows itself is flawed because Windows embraces broken Web standards like HTML 5 and bundles it into it's PRISM based internet exploding browser whilst other people desperately work there hand at trying to patch there huge fuck-up's and try to remove there shit. "
English, do you speak it? http://www.howtospell.co.uk/homophonesquiz.php
"it's worthy of note that no version of Windows actually ships with OpenSSL "
Thank you god.
"They screwed the implementation of Kerberos"
Nope. Kerberos works just fine on Windows and is fully standards compliant. It has features like say constrained delegation that Linux desperately needs out of the box..
"then they screwed implementation of Bit-locker in Windows 10"
There is a bug disabling it in certain circumstances when you also have hardware disk encryption.. The implementation of it is otherwise just fine.
"is it? I haven't seen any information to that effect."
https://www.thurrott.com/mobile/windows-phone/62419/windows-10-mobile-build-10586-has-been-released
Now confirmed that is shipping on the Lumia 950. There is a now a minor bug fix update available to Windows Insiders, but the main build number stays the same - 10586 is the RTM.
"OS ? Are you having a larf?"
Obviously you havn't used it to make such a comment. You can now for instance upgrade a Xiaomi Mi4 from Android to Windows Mobile 10 - and it's then much faster - less laggy - and has better battery life. Not to mention is also far more secure with zero malware.
"Windows Phone's tiny market share is the major reason for its security record.
(Pretty certain you've mention this about Linux)"
Linux has historically had both a small market share AND a terrible security record.
Don't just take my word for it - how about some people that look at phone security for a living:
http://betanews.com/2015/06/11/windows-phone-security-is-top-notch-says-kaspersky/
http://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-may-have-the-most-secure-smartphone-os-in-windows-phone

"Is there anything quite so odd as being told that you've missed a call whilst still in the middle of that call? Par for the course with Lync, "
It is actually Exchange UM that is sending out this notification, not Lync.
You can disable the missed call notification globally in the Exchange UM Mailbox Policy.
"Can't see them getting much traction until they get serious about OS X"
Just LOL. You realise that Lync is one of Microsoft's fastest growing business segments - and they are currently wiping the floor with Cisco?
"There may not be huge number of Mac users"
Exactly.
"but lots of the decision makers love there shiny Macs"
Not many IT decision makers, and it's "their". You can give them a Lync handset if they can't use a proper computer.
"The final mile is via 1990's coax so your 200Mbits is a 'pipe' dream."
Coax can EASILY give you 200mbits of downstream data. Usable RF bandwidth for cable TV is approaching 1GHz which gives you way way more than that.
"More like 5-8Mbits between 3pm and Midnight."
Again not true. I can pull 20 MegaBytes per second relatively constant downloads at pretty much any time. Anyone who can't is probably using ports that get traffic shaped. Try setting your P2P port to 554 and ensure that encryption is forced on.
"Right now forest fires in Thailand are emitting more CO2 than the whole USA is."
Nope, they are potentially emitting more than the UK (0.5GT), not the US (5.3GT).
However - this is still AGW - the fires are mostly started deliberately and illegally to clear forest for paper and palm oil production
"The Arctic isn't the whole Earth, and isn't a place where temperatures currently peak at 50C which is where the claim for those places hitting 60C originated."
No, but then that wasn't what you asked:
"Find me one credible researcher who thinks there will be a temperature rise of anything like 10C in the next 85 years"
However, 60 degrees is possible too:
http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/oct/26/extreme-heatwaves-could-push-gulf-climate-beyond-human-endurance-study-shows
"The scientists used standard climate computer models to show that the fatal WBT extremes would occur every decade or two after 2070 along most of the Gulf coast, if global warming is not curbed. Using the normal measure of temperature, the study shows 45C would become the usual summer maximum in Gulf cities, with 60C being seen in places like Kuwait City in some years."
"Man-caused climate change may or may not real {regardless of the advocates, the science is NOT finalized} "
That AGW is happening and that man is at least a significant cause of global warming hasn't been in any credible doubt for over a decade. The science is not finalised around the details (how bad will it get, and in what timeframe?) - not the headlines.
"There have been four ice ages in the last two million years."
So that's 1 every 500,000 years or so....versus decades for AGW
"The first three came and went long before we were burning coal and oil on an industrial scale."
I wasn't aware we managed to squeeze in an Ice Age in the last 150 years or so...
"How do the climate warmers explain that? "
Milankovich cycles.
"Talking about a 200m sea level rise "
Blame the OP.
"Find me one credible researcher who thinks there will be a temperature rise of anything like 10C in the next 85 years"
The areally averaged warming in the Arctic is projected to range from about 2°C to about 9°C by the year 2100
http://www.ipcc.ch/publications_and_data/ar4/wg2/en/ch15s15-3-2.html
That's the product of lots of very credible researchers...
"Four Knowen Scientific Ways Carbon Dioxide Cools Earth's Climate"
It's called a greenhouse gas for a reason.
"http://geothermal-global-warming.myfreesites.net/ by Dr Arthur Viterito"
More utter bollocks that is easily refuted - for example solar radiation can be measured, the graph attributed early on to satellite measurements doesn't match the actual satellite measurements shown later, it uses a cherry picked temperature range from the 1998 El Nino year, it has pages of nonsense implying causation by geothermal flux, etc, etc.
"Dr Pierre Latour, PhD Chemical Engineering"
So not a climate scientist then.
"this 2 hour interview on 615 radios stations to 2 million listeners"
Ignorance is not limited by audience figures.
" We are puny little microbes on the surface of the planet and have extremely little impact on anything,"
Microbes can kill an elephant.
"The raw data does not support anything but normal fluctuations in the general climate on Earth, but not global warming "
100% of climate scientists disagree with you , and 97% of those believe that the warming is at least partially man made.
"15 years of flat temps"
Nope:
http://www.woodfortrees.org/plot/wti/from:2000/trend
"the Antartic ice sheet is growing in leaps and bounds"
As already posted the seasonal ice sheets have declined on average over 6% per decade since satellite measurements began. The land based ice is also melting - as evidenced by year on year sea level rise.
"Climate science, at best, is about 40 years old, not long enough to have enough data on anything."
We have ~800,000 years data on CO2 versus temperature and ~150,000 years on sea level versus temperature....
"if you put thermal heaters on your roof, to extract heat and heat up your water, are you not taking the heat out of the atmosphere?"
Are you really that dim? Where do you think the heat from your water will end up when it cools down?
"you can't stop global climate change"
We could stop most man made climate change given enough effort / desire.
"According to Donohue and his colleagues' research, climbing levels of CO2 in the air correlated with an 11 per cent increase in foliage cover from 1982 to 2010 across arid areas in Australia, North America, the Middle East and Africa.""
Unfortunately the benefits only exceed the negatives for a very short time. See http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-34800829
"Prof Richard Tol predicts the downsides of warming will outweigh the advantages with a global warming of 1.1C - which has nearly been reached already. He has previously highlighted the positive effects of CO2 in fertilising crops and forests. "
"What is the max temperature allowable in the Arctic and Antarctic to stop the land-masses losing more ice to the sea in summer than they gain in winter?"
Firstly - there is only land mass at the Antarctic, not the Arctic. Secondly temperature is not the only factor - the weather also impacts the amount of ice. Therefore there is no exact answer.
"An active volcano can spew out a thousand tons of lava per second"
Evidence of that happening?
"Over a year this amounts to thirty thousand million tons of material"
Evidence of that happening?
"and that the lava contains an appreciable fraction of CO2."
What fraction?
"Then the increase in oceanic CO2 is accounted for."
If the CO2 is contained in Lava then how is it going to be reaching the ocean?
It said that although Facebook workers earn "extraordinary" wages, the poorly paid drivers and other service workers can barely afford to send their kids to school, let alone buy a decent house anywhere near work.
Skilled employees versus unskilled. Don't want a crap job? Get a decent education.
