Re: Trusting trust
The human factor is the big one. Seems crims (and even non-crims) forget the old "under the spreading chestnut tree, I sold you and you sold me".

I don't believe that any insurance company at this point would offer coverage that includes a "space flight". Those companies do love their exclusions like "auto racing", "acts of war/terrorism", flying in "experimental aircraft". Maybe aircraft is close enough to "spacecraft"?
I take that back a bit... Lloyds of London would for a very heavy premium.
Not only from what the article mentions but I've noticed that if I enter a search and click on a link Google will open a new window to something like Amazon or Ebay for "prioducts I might be interested in" with nothing related to the search terms. Seems weird but close the open page and reclick and it works. If' I'm in the same search mode and look at more results, it will dump me to product page ever so often. Funny how it works. I search something like "WWII sea battles" and get products for hair restorer or makeup or other items just as wierd.
Aggravating to say the least. I've used Bing and the Bing clones like DuckDuckGo but don't get as many relevant hits.
Bing... a Microsoft company, seems to the culprit. I wonder if they're just sucking up to China or were threatened that their production lines would be shut down? Given all the BS of the last years (more than a couple), nothing would surprise me. Money and power have overtaken anything relating to common sense.
“Through the hard work and collaborative efforts of the FBI and IRS, this sentencing sends the message to those who seek to make a profit through fraud and deception, that this conduct bears significant consequences.”
I don't think the message sent is being received by the crims. Every case has the prosecutor saying the same thing. Maybe keel-hauling would send a stronger message?
The kind that show up and bark a few ill thought out orders and storm off, only to return a few days with newer, better, ill thought out plan! Only to show up next week and call a meeting to come up with a better plan!!
Been there too. Lately though it seems like politicians have picked up on this. The wilder the proposal and the more shocked response they get seems to encourage them. I'm believing bosses and politicians should both spend 100% of their time on the golf course and never, ever even get close to the office.
What are you, Mr. Cruz, some kind of Commie?
I think "commie" is the wrong word. Think political party in Germany in the late 30's to mid-40's. Cruz's party does seem to be following certain playbooks published by that German party.
As my wording.. I'm censoring myself. I have friends on other sites that have been blocked for using the real names of those I mentioned.
Does anyone win? I thought they just went on and on until everyone lost interest.
Usually whoever is the "banker" in my experience. My little brother used to win a lot of times and always as the banker. He turned that experience into a carrier. And now people wonder why I don't trust financial types.
When you see how inaccurate the popular media (Newspapers, movies, TV) are about topics you know something about, you have to wonder if they're just as sloppy about "dramatising" other areas, e.g police procedures.
I think you hit it. Current media, etc. doesn't seem to hire the best qualified but the cheapest which are usually the cheapest and consists of those fresh out of school (if they actually pursued a degree is questionable). It's getting worse do to "influencers" (hate that term) who just get followers of the same mindset. But the language is changing, for good or bad and usually "bad".
I am an old "hacker" and proud of it having spent many years hacking away at the IT coalface.
Now where's your Vertical Assembly Building
Nothing like pushing the envelope a bit. After that, assorted bunkers and control area, fueling equipment, and a lengthy roadway from the Assembly Building to the launch pad.
Am I missing anything for the launch site?

I have to agree here. He's used the old maxim about "tell a lie often enough and it becomes truth". but the one that gets overlooked is "the first victim of war (or politics) is the truth". Reality is what one perceives as true and the last four years truth has been trampled.
The last several months, the truth has been kicked to curb with all the claims of fraud and no evidence. Trump seems to admire dictators and from watching, many of his attacks and lies tell us more about who or what he thinks he is than what the Constitution says the President should be and do.
Many of us fear for the Republic as the norms have changed, many broken and killed. Where we'll be in the coming years is hard to say. The US could recover and be restored or it could keep descending to the level of banana republic.
I hope it recovers but that remains to be seen.
I do note that Kreb's was fired as head of cybersecuriy just before this all came out for saying that the election was secure. I would think that he was so busy fighting with the WH over "secure election" that his staff was distracted from the hack.
Trump is good at "distraction" like stage magicians use and with Russia involved, he really needed to distract everything away from them. The mere fact he owes big money them is enough for any prosecutor to start making a case. His many denials also seem to point to it.
Basically, Trump isn't known for honesty and is in things only for himself.. One just needs to look at what its benefiting him financially and follow the money.
Back in the mid-80's I was doing racing photography and occasionally some model work as a second job. I learned very quickly that photo processing places weren't to be trusted when I went in to pick up some work and found they'd printed some large photos to hang in the shop. I also learned from others that often, most photo shops had a "secret filing cabinet" in back for copies of the more.. shall we say "interesting" photos.
After the photos being displayed (with out credit to me), I bit the bullet and bought the equipment to develop and print the photos myself. A lot less stressful and actually pretty enjoyable.
As a kid living in Dayton, Ohio, he went around to the local schools over several years time. He inspired many of us to look beyond ourselves. Many of went into tech or science. I remember the Q&A session afterwards as he didn't take the piss on those who asked dumb questions nor over explain things to those who asked tech type question. A true gentleman.
Footnote.. at the time Wright-Patterson AFB was home to lot of developmental and space experiments so he as well as the future astronauts and others were common in town. Joseph Kittenger lived on the next block over from my parents. Back then, these guys had to have had guts of steel.
Many of these types have left Twitter for other sites that are more open to their madness. There's a rumor that the biggest one is actually an FBI site to track them, but who knows.
This whole last four years has been one of chaos, wild-ass accusations with basis no in fact, and over all stupidity and all stirred (not shaken) by the guy at the top.
A pretty sad state of affairs in these parts.
Article: "The rectangle was said to be made of stainless steel..."
No further comment.
The new ones are obviously bad copies that blew it. The original was a triangle and thought to be stainless steel. I tend to agree that these "copies" are just pranks. Maybe the first one was also? The one mystery not solved is "who took the first one?".
This scam is still ongoing. I suppose that a new group has entered play. I'm still getting about 1 or 2 calls a week from some heavily accented guys who claim to be IRS. I've been playing along and then hitting them with "I bet your mother is proud of you. I'll ask next time I see her.". Oh the cries and screams and the anguish.
Much of this nonsense about the dangers of wearing a mask and "it's my choice" seem to be coming from here in the States and in particular a certain looney at the top. Certain memes seem to sum it up about "ignoring science, medicine, etc. and trust what some politician says."
Pure and simple to understand this proposed change. Trump hates foreigners who come to the States. Yet, his hotels use them for a serious percentage of his workers because they will work for less money and thus more profit for him.
Don't believe it? Go do some research on his statements about immigration and then look at his business practices for the workers.
While I tend to agree with you on all your points, there is the unknown factor here. We've only explored a tiny bit of Mars. And nothing very deep below the surface to learn what's there. Are there resources below the surface? Who knows.
Even here on Earth, there's vast so-called waste landds (desert, marshes, etc.) that haven't been fully explored below the surface.
So the real problem with Mars, etc. and even Earth is that too much we don't know about what is there.
"The team applied pressure equal to 640 African elephants on the tip of a ballet shoe, doing so in a way that caused an unexpected reaction among the carbon atoms in the device."
They got diamonds... were they expecting something different like turning coal into gold or some other alchemy?
Do away with it completely. Off buttons are a HUGE first step for people but after you've been TV free for a few months and you see something, then you'll be amazed at how even 'quality' programmes are contrived.
No TV here and I haven't had one for 3 years. Ah.. peace and quiet. No ranting "news" types or politicians. I do keep up using a variety of sites and with diverse opinions. But then, I'm a non-aligned voter... an independent if you will.
I can go through my news sites over breakfast, and maybe if in the mood, again later in the evening.
Try it. It's enlightening and relaxing to read instead of the media screaming in your ears. And you'll get more of an article than in any sound bite that TV news has to offer.
Maybe it needs an "Are you sure you really want to fuck the network completely? (y/N)" prompt before running at that setting, followed by an "Ok, on your head be it! Commencing to fuck the network NOW!" response should the person enter Y and hit return.
There are admins who would think "how bad can it be?" and then "challenge accepted" while hitting "Y" and "Enter".
Yes, until the only available antenna gets infested with dropbears and no can use it until they fought through all of XXXX malvolent fauna[1], flora and rocks to restore it into usable condition,
I would think that it would burn off the flora and fauna that might get on top of it. Sort of like a giant microwave oven.
