Planning on putting HMS Victory back in the water and setting sail to wave the flag are you?

I'll pass on having a tracking device installed on my person thank you very much. I don't like being tracked on the web, via my phone, and soon definitely not by my car.
While I see the need for it or maybe something different and better, what with all the tracking and surveillance that happens just from the government side of things, this might just be over the line.
Human vision would have detected her much, much earlier.
Human vision would have detected her much, much earlier if the driver had been paying attention to the road in front of the car instead of fiddling with whatever....
FTFY as this happens a lot without a self-driving car involved. Driver distraction is a serous problem and will get worse with driverless cars. Once us old geezers have died off and the generation raised around these cars takes over the car will need to be 100% perfect or accidents will continue.
That education they'll get from this is probably money better spent than on partying. Some will be smart and use any proceeds to payoff the loans. Others, who knows.. new car? Those that loose the money via this "investment" will also have something to show for it... discretion and thinking things through.
Reports lately suggest that even if you have never had an FB account, they have some of your data (maybe more than just "some"). By having contact with a FB user/product, they got your info but claim it's only the metadata. Much like Google, they just keep slurping and storing and using what they slurp.
I do believe that one can not have too much paranoia with the likes of FB on the loose.
I saw a new article on news feed that Musk is pulling his companies "sites" from Facebook. And I'm assuming that this is just the beginning... I wonder what the stock price will show this coming week though Facebook is rather secret about how many people they have a) subscribed and active and b) how many have been sucked up by having contact with a Facebook user.?
I'm going to add to my previous... The video itself. Is this a recording from the LiDAR or from a separate system? IF it's the LiDAR feed it's a piss-poor camera.
I'm not a fan of Uber and rather despise them due to their manglement's attitudes and actions. But I'm trying to be fair as to this. My local roads are a bitch to drive at night due to the inconsistent and uneven lighting.
And don't cyclists normally wear reflective vests as well?
Where I live, there's cyclists and bicycle users. The cyclists wear the form fitting bike outfits with helmets, etc. The bicycle users wear whatever they have on. Many are homeless, many have lost their licenses for alcohol related offences. Others just are using it to commute. It's the bicycle users who create problems with visibility. The cyclists create their own set of problems as mentioned in other topics.. like their attitude of infallibility.
The only clear point the video shows is thid accident was going to happen driver or driverless.
No way would a human behind the wheel have changed the outcome.
It just highlights that whilst driverless cars will for sure reduce road deaths, it's never going to get to the magical 100%. It with current technology.
I'm not sure why the downvotes. Based on the video just of what's happening on the road, I tend to agree. The distracted driver doesn't help. Black clothing at night on the roads is a serous problem. I agree that a human driver would have had issues also.
But are there other factors at play here... was the car going too fast for conditions? Even humans drive too fast. There's just too many unknowns here for one to make a judgment call from watching a video on a computer screen.
Bloody kids today. They won't believe that the first IBM PCs and compatibles didn't need an 8/16 bit differentiator because they only had an 8 bit bus.
They'd howl and scream if it were even a 16 bit and had to wait a few milliseconds for their computer or cellphone to do something.
And for those 60 years (me too) there pops up at least one a Congressional session about "allowing line item vetoes" which hasn't happened yet as just about every CongressCritter doesn't want their pork to the voters cut off.
Tossing out the "bums" won't work as there's a new bunch waiting in line. And all backed by lobbyists with deep pockets of course.
Youtube's problem here is that they are reacting to public (ie: media) pressure. I'd be very surprised if they had someone on staff who has an understanding or an interest in this (weapons) context. I daresay I'll bet we start seeing videos of fighters and bombers being deleted because well... weapons.
Given the probable lifespan left to CA, it's going to be a very short-term position.
Hint any applicants... don't take them up on the offer for stock options. Ask for the money instead. And don't take anything personal for your desk decorations.
Icon: Mine's the one hanging right next to my chair. I've left the car running for a fast escape.
Quite clearly someone was sleeping or playing pocket tennis in history class.
"Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.". Well, history isn't being taught in depth anymore in schools so if we look at where we are now, the destination is a foregone conclusion.
FB lies to users that it exists to 'connect them', when everyone else knows this is solely about high-targeted advertising (commercial & political).
We might know it but does the average user know it and understand the ramifications? I seriously doubt it. We could replace FB with "smart phone" and the same would apply. Users either have no clue or don't care.
"You can't simply enlist in the military and say I want to focus on cybersecurity," she said. "Where you end up is not based on willingness or aptitude."
So.. the potential is then that a highly qualified security person could be drafted... Ok. And given this statement could end up as a mess cook or an MP*? And I note that nothing was said about pay which if at current rates wouldn't do much for the recruitment of qualified people. And then let's add in basic training.. can you see a 40 year old IT person going on a 20 mile run?
*MP... well it is "security".
Here in the states there is a charge (and it's printed on each bottle) that they call a "deposit". But returning them is not easy as dropping them off at the grocery store since the places (supermarkets) we used to drop off the bottles have closed and "centralized" out in the boondocks. Takes some effort to find the place.
Some of us have questioned "who gets the deposit" on the unreturned bottles? I'm sure if we follow the money, we'll find out why they've made recycling more difficult.
The catch is, much of the stuff turned in for "recycling" ends up in the ocean or landfills. We're better equipped to make and distributed the stuff than we are to gather it together and recycle/reprocess it. It's not just bottles but trash bags, product wraps, etc. The "other stuff" far outweighs the bottle problem.
We already eliminate any pedestrian humans from the taxiways by having big jet engines to Hoover them up
The problem with that is that it just doesn't suck them up and out of the way, it chews them up and spits them out the back. No disposable bags for the vacuuming on a jet engine.
I still am unsure as to why MP's are angry.
Oh.... lots of reasons and you did a good list but there's one more...
There's the implication and apparent evidence that Cambridge Analytics interfered big time in the US election. If they held data from FB's British users, there could be worries about your elections being tampered with from them. FB might not have a hand in election tampering but the data leak could certainly be shown, if used by a firm like CA, to sway an election.
There might be a connection between all this and your elections.... for example Brexit.
FTR, we should all be pissed about data theft, be it from FB, any business, and/or government. Yet, most people aren't unless it affects them personally, like the resulting bank fraud or screwing up their credit.
