Re: I guess the last thing that went through his mind...
Pity that the missile wasn't covered in bacon drippings... I'm not sure he would even be allowed into the place with the virgin whatevers...

Sorry but napalm has been banished from almost all nations arsenals including the US. However, in the case of the daesh, I can see where exceptions should be made. They don't understand anything except brute force, nor do they follow any "civilized" warfare rules. At this point, I'm all for the thermonuclear response and turn their major power centers into glass. They hope to meet Allah... they should be helped on their journey.
The concept of E-bay and "trusted merchant".... I find that if a particular product comes up on E-bay and Alibaba, I don't want it. Too much grief dealing with a Chinese product as far as "copied goods" (copyright and patent violation), shoddy workmanship and quality control, customer sevice, and import duty and (here's a big rip-off) import broker fees. </rant>
I've found out the same thing.. it's mostly usable if.. I do a lot of communicating with several Frenchmen on a hobby interest (18th Century Warships) so what we do is type emails in our native language and paste in the Google Translate. Give many terms are archaic, we manage pretty well all things considered.
The first three on the surface seemed (for some value of 'seemed') like legitimate reasons... the fourth seemed to be a rant. But then again, I don't care who's on it. I just know a lot of folks justly or injustly are going to get burnt and without the various "helpful" sites like Trustify or the nearest spamming miscreant doing whatever shiite they might try.
If you read the article, it's obvious and explained. Most admin assistants have that kind of "power" for lack of a better word. They managed the bosses email, phone calls, meetings.. everything. If they work at it, they can manipulate the whole company. There's an old saying about secretaries being the ones the run the company (yeah.. that long ago when "secretary" was allowed). Some can cover up a bad boss and make him and the company look good or destroy them. They can also pretty much embezzle as much they like. At some point, though, they will get caught. Many times it's after they quit or retire when a new person takes over and starts asking questions....
I'd pop out the following email and wait for the cash to roll in:
From: DeweyCheatem&Howe, Attorneys
To: <$email addy>
Dear <$email addy>
Your email and details were found in the recent Ashley Madison data theft. We're filing a class action suit on all members behalf.
If you would like to be a part of this suit, the cost is $50.
If you would like to NOT be a part of this suit and have your details made known in a court of law, the cost $100.
Please forward your bank/credit card details immediately.
Although "white collar" criminals often escape custodial rewards, I'm finding this whole slimy saga so repugnant that I wouldn't be at all surprised if a decent stretch was deemed appropriate. The shits seem to have gone out of their way to defraud1, defraud2, then betray3 their victims.
While I agree totally with this, no charges have been filed against AM manglement, yet. Even though there's no honor among thieves, the question I think at this point, is which set of thieves do law enforcement go after first? Other than some customers expectation of privacy, I'm not seeing AM being a victim.
We don't put fabs in silicon valley anymore because silicon valley is about people, brainpower, capital.... not toxic processes. The cynical might say anywhere there is a fab is CERTAINLY NOT silicon valley because no wise engineer would move their family to the shadow of a toxic plant.
That and the state of California has banned many chemicals from being imported into the state.
And one's name/e-mail addy is in the dump, besides ask you for money, what will they do about it? This is fear mongering at it's worst... the "you or someone you know checked to see if you were there" part. If they said, you're not there, then all is well. If they said "you're in the dump", what will they do about it beside want your CC number?
Curious minds and all that.....
You also have to add in the new business model which is already becoming an irritation. For example, if you want any of the old standby games like Solitaire or Minesweeper, they come with ads. To get rid of the ads costs about $1.50 a month whether you play them or not. Methinks that just the tip of the iceberg and there's more news like that coming.
Those of us who have been warning/curious about the cash stream for MS have slapped pretty hard. I hate the be the first to say it: "but there's no such thing as a free lunch". MS is going to pull some more stunts with this "free" upgrade.
Cue the downvotes... form an orderly line to the right please.
This is all well and good for "security bods"... but what those 101 million users who are vulnerable? Hell,.. most users apparently never get an OS patch. Given that it's 101 million users for these and 5 billion for Chrome, the bad guys will go for the Chrome first. The mobiles are really in deep s**t until the manufacturers and the Telco's decide they should and will do the right thing and push patches without a hit on the user's data limit.
This thing should be removed from servers and PC's. Even though it's "inside the firewall", does it phone home like a lot of other software? I'd say it was a good thing the CIO resigned otherwise firing would be appropriate. And unless there's strict guidelines and possibly monitoring of logs, this thing should never be allowed back.
I'm wondering what will happen when the department upgrades to Win10. I'd almost bet that will cause some real headaches when it phones home.
No surprise and it started trickling in on Friday. I have two friends who claim they never used it are getting spam on an email account used only for business purposes including one that's a "no-response" email used for letting customers know their order is being processed. He checks that address just in case some idiot does respond.
These appear to be just run of the mill spam with the miscreants blindly shipping out the garbage.
I'm suspecting some malware authors are picking up on this as one of the emails was an attachment claiming to show them in the database.
The other person got one saying they could remove them from the "stolen database" by contacting them for "payment arrangements". The foolish who believe this might as well find the Nigerian Queen offering them money in return.
And so another spam nightmare begins for IT....
What I see is that the good city fathers are probably caught in a PR nightmare.
If they don't make the offer (even a low-ball one) then they're not "thinking of the poor or working class".
If they get the land, then they get stuck with all the headaches and little profit.
If it sells at full price and a developer builds it up, they get the tax money on the value of the land and buildings.
The logic of taking "undeveloped land" and turning into something else is fine if the land is usable.. depends on the terrain. Also, this is California we're talking about. They seem to have their own rules of engagement with these things, like the way they pump much of their reservoir water into rivers because they must save the fish. There's probably some ecological (mandated by the greenies) reason for not developing said land also.
Loo time is my time. I have no desire to communicate with the world or manglement or anyone. Enough is enough on the "being connected" crap. If someone needs to be fulfilled by chatting, etc. while on the bog, I suspect a mental health professional needs to intervene. Talk about "privacy invasive"... I suppose there's a backdoor for the 5-eyes to make sure we're doing what we're supposed to do whilst there? </rant>
Exactly. I believe he has a shot at it especially if broadens his topical choices for ranting. Scary? I'm on the fence about this but giving thought to packing some bags for a run to the border. My more liberal friends are listening to him now and agreeing... that's scary. Seems they are abandoning Hillary, though I can't imagine why other than things like email.. secrets... putting up with Bill all these years.
I hope that the populace south of you is watching this and how it goes., but I know better. The people aren't paying attention. We're in the same boat (or one like it) and while maybe not as bad yet, it will be. How our neighbor to the north deals with this will set a precedent for our government. Scary times, indeed.
In many ways, the Arab Spring reference is good in that it epitomizes the way things spread... In this case, one democracy becomes more repressive, the others follow all in the name of the security theater. Before we know it, we'll be worse off than the regimes we rail against.
While we all blame politicians for these shenanigans, much of this is the result of the effort of corporations and their lobbyists. What's good for corporates isn't (usually) good for the people and what's going on to our north is a good example of what's going on here. No longer are terrorists classified by political leanings but by their stance on the corporations.
