Greedy, bottom-line-obsessed fuckwits.

Can you name one company that isn't this? I can't. I daresay most corporate directors would sell their mothers if improved the bottom line.

Re: Users don't help themselves.

Even if it did display the extension, there's a lot of users who remember zipfiles that were ".exe" to auto un-zip. But yes, MS has not helped anyone, ever, by hiding the extensions by default. Assholes.

Indeed vexatious. I'm surprised he's not working for a patent troll or perhaps the motion picture industry in their pursuit of huge amounts of cash for "presumed piracy".

Methinks someone needs to be institutionalized or merely shot and buried out back for being a twatdangle of the highest order.

African IP address body exec half-apologizes for 'Whites are taking over' race-row email

So wanting "more transparency" is equal to "racism" because the white member pushes for transparency? How does that work? Or is this just another excuse to blame everything on whitey?

If this just meant that they wanted to offload testing onto users, that would be bad enough.

It seems to be normal. They've gone from users being beta testers to everyone being a tester. The quote from my engineering days applies: "We now have our customers do our testing. We're saving a bundle."

It's one thing to hit first world, etc... it's quite another to hit 3rd world or war zones. Haven't these clowns heard of geo-blocking? Or doesn't it matter that someone is on a limited and expensive connection?

Farewell, Fadell: Nest CEO Tony quits IoT biz

Mark 85

Two points...

1) The thing is, why make things more complex than the need to be? Apparently the Nest isn't quite the big deal they made it out to be since sales haven't skyrocketed. Possibly a whole lot more of the great <for some value of "great> IoT stuff will follow this and die off.

2) As for the furor over Resolv... that's just part of the history of Google and when I think about it, MS also. Buy a company and dump products and people.

Re: 9 1/2 shoes

I can remember that in the not too distant past, one could find shoes in "narrow", "regular", and "wide"... I think the designators (if memory servers right) was something like A, AA, AAA. Sadly, there's more and more of these petty manglement types out there and they seem to be rising up the corporate food chain.

Windows 10 market share jumps two per cent

Mark 85

Office Politics and MS.

From some folks I know (former and current MS types), it appears that the Windows division either runs MS or is autonomous. They're doing what they want, when they want, without much say so from the C-Suite. It could be that they are feeling threatened and losing power within the company unless Win10 is a success.

A lot of mixed signals being sent, a lot of feedback from users is being ignored. It's very possible that MS will survive but Windows won't.

The current MS types that I know are looking for new jobs as they are a bit scared with all the politics, etc. going on behind the scenes. Makes me wonder what the real story is...

Brits don't want their homes to be 'tech-tastic'

Mark 85

Re: Unsurprised

These things are inconsequential if you're fit and healthy, but their automation can result in a huge improvement in quality of life to the disabled or elderly.

The problem here is those are generally the folks that won't understand the security issues nor be able to properly address them. Ok... I'm wrong... most folks not in IT will have the same problem.

Re: "free installation of smart energy meters"

Unfortunately, it seems that the vast majority of people really do believe that something can be "free".

Spot on. have an upvote. I wish it could be more.

In the States, they're all voting for Bernie Sanders. Not a small number of those "freetards" either. Then again, from the IT side, there's a lot pirates and those who expect everything on the 'Net to be free. So yes... a vast majority if we look at the totals.

Re: Where is my fiber?

Well said, but as commentard Youngone below says (and so have others) it's all about profit. Their bumping the spec (as well as everyother ISP is merely a software bump back at the datacenter and not hardware or copper to fiber.

Nice thing about the US government, once officials are bought, they usually stay bought. Which pretty much allows them to continue their monopolies and the buying up of the weaker companies while ripping off the customers.

And before the downvotes start... anyone care to explain why we pay more in the US for less bandwidth and speed than those elsewhere in the world if not for the monopolies and lobbyists.
