White House turns to Big Tech to fix coronavirus blunders while classifying previous conversations

Mark 85

Re: Oh My!

Since it's classified, no one in the meetings can talk about it and thus, no one can say "what an idiot" to the press.

On the other hand, it could be that he invited the computer gang in because it's a "virus" and everyone knows IT knows all about viruses.

Yelp finally gets its chance to tell US Congress how Google screws its listings service every minute of every day

Mark 85

Now it's clear....

When I first open Google for a search, enter my search words, and smack <enter> I immediately get a pile of crap advertising for stuff that bears no resemblance to my search. If I go back or open a new window and search.. things work like they should. And search using the same search terms twice and my gosh.. different results on the first two or three pages before going to BS that has nothing to with my search.

Google has become just a bunch of self serving muppets propping up the bottom line for their stock. It's becoming more useless everyday.

Mark 85

Between this and the 737-MAX fiasco, who would want to be a Boeing employee passenger right now, really?

FTFY

Mark 85

Re: Ring any bells?

I honestly believe the best way to make sure Boing management get off their collective backsides and get this sorted properly is to put their loved ones aboard for the last automated test flight of their capsule before the first real crew are sent up.

What? Loved ones? That would be their shares and bonuses. I prefer sending the board members up... if needed, rinse, repeat and send another batch.

As a test run, have them fly a couple flights on a 747 MAX.

Pro aviation tip: Remember that the number of take-offs should always equal the number of controlled landings

FTFY. If you take off, you will land but not necessarily in a controlled manner.

Mark 85

Re: TL;DR

In my understanding, the MAX planes were automatically changing trim settings with the faulty readings.

There were several news articles on this topic about how common was it. Turns out that the experienced pilots just shut the thing off (pulled the breakers) and then turned in problem report when they landed. I believe the more complex a system is, the more training is required including having an inexperienced pilot fly with one who is well experienced.

Re: @Steelpillow

I think you misspoke.

The software is to be branded OttoPilot.

There fixed it for you.

Will it require a cabin attendant to inflate it first? I'll get my coat. It's the one with the built in parachute.

Mark 85

So long as there isn't a bloody great aircraft sat on the runway right in front of it, I'm sure it'll be fine.

Even if they knew who contact regarding decommissioning, they've probably left the company and their email addy is a dead end.

Drones must be constantly connected to the internet to give Feds real-time location data – new US govt proposal

Mark 85

So it basically needs a cell tower to connect to. Last I checked, if you get away from the high population areas, cell towers are far and few.

<snark>Given the way this is proposed, are we sure that the FCC didn't have a hand in this to help the profits of all those telecoms? </snark>
