Shhh... some folks believe no one ever attacks when it's raining. I knew an officer in 'Nam who died believing that.

Kentucky pried chicken: Fried grease chain's loyalty club hacked
Re: I remember ...
As I recall through the mists of time.. the original stuff when the Colonel owned the company was pretty good. When Heublein bought the company, they kept him on for PR and also changed the recipes. HIs tirades while he was on the road doing "PR" were great as he railed about those "booze makers not knowing diddley about chicken. Yeah.. it's not good or even food in my book anymore.

If it looks like, smells like it, and feels like it, you probably shouldn't step in it.... and this whole mess is a large steaming pile. And by that, the fake news sites, the bots on Twatter and many forums, along with what the article mentioned should be included along with the likes of Google and Facebook's burying their heads about "fake news". Those last two, it's obvious, profit. Even the fake news sites are about profit. The rest of the steaming pile should still get looked at. There's been more manipulation and possible criminal activity in this election than I can recall including Watergate--- the granddaddy of them all in modern times.
The problem is, after any investigations by anyone, the politics will come into full play with blaming, denials, smirks, winks, nudges, and ultimately buried as nothing will be done as this type of thing will be the new status quo.
Being an "independent" (non party affiliated), I think it would be great if all sides could look at this objectively as if the charges are true, the next time, it could be the "other party" that gets the win... or even a 3rd party. As it is, why bother having an election if it's going to be manipulated for everyone's but the citizen's interest.

Re: Organ payments
I didn't downvote you but maybe I should have.
The problem is "viable organs". Most people don't die under the conditions needed to keep organs viable, and then there are those that eliminated... certain diseases, drug addiction, etc. As one commenter said.. "cut up everyone who dies"(paraphrased).. Well that's just impossible. People die in accidents, shootings, at home. Their organs aren't considered viable after the first 30 minutes, if I recall correctly.
Legalized selling will make matters worse as only the rich will be able to afford it. It will be a seller's market as such.. sell to the highest bidder. It may be already... look at how fast certain celebs (millionaires and billionaires) get to the top of the list rather quickly. Steve Jobs and David Cosby come to mind here.
Insurers won't want to pay for them just as they don't like it now. The cost of the surgeries, the anti-rejection drugs can run into the millions over a lifetime (or what's left of the lifetime). To pay for it, premiums would have to one helluva lot higher than they are now. Tax based coverage... taxes will have to go a lot higher also.
It's a sad, pathetic situation but until we can figure out how to get dying people to a hospital and/or keep the organs viable, I don't see a real solution anytime soon.

Real deal: Hackers steal steelmaker trade secrets
Re: Trade Secret Wars
Follow the money.. probably the buyers of the steel shook their heads "no" at the possibility of an investigation.
I'm still surprised that there's any steel-making industry here in the States at all. The Japanese certainly killed off lots of US Steel making starting back in the '70's.

HMS Illustrious sets sail for scrapyard after last-ditch bid fails
Re: Utterly shameful -- but pragmatic and it's our loss.
As a history buff, all governments are that way. Just look to the late 1800's and early 1900's at the number of wooden ships that were broken up and scrapped. Many should have become museums but upkeep is horrendous. Same for ships from WW1 and WW2. Very few have survived and as time takes it's toll, they'll soon be gone also.
Here in the States USS Olympia may very well be headed to the scrapyard. She's deteriorating quickly.
So, the pragmatics win... save the cost of keeping these old girls afloat and use the money on new ones. But for every one that's broken up, a bit more of history is lost. Even the ones sunk during WWII are now being picked apart for scrap. Very sad.
Team Trump snubs Big Internet oligarchs
Pizzaria was used as a base for Child Pornography by Hillary Clinton and one deranged human decides to go in there and shoot.
Turns out it was a Trump "insider" (son of one, I believe) who started that story..err.... rumor. Reports are varying but someone got fired for story.
I do find it disgusting that the media picks up shit like this without ever checking to see it's a rumor or a well-placed lie. I guess "investigative" isn't a word use with "reporter" anymore.
Re: Intel
It looks like Trump has invited people that can create jobs for the lower-middle working class
This might work. He's old school and tech isn't in his knowledge base (except for Twitter). I would hope that this group's membership gets tweaked a bit as time moves on. Seems there's more than a few rust belt types on board that, given their history, will keep going that way.
If it doesn't work and the corporates carry on as they have been doing... expect a fire sale at bargain basement prices of whatever is left of the US manufacturing base.
FTR, I'm not a fan of the Trump or anyone else who ran for President this time around. But now we just have to sit back with the popcorn and see.
The UK's Investigatory Powers Act allows the State to tell lies in court
Oops.. forgot that we got the Patriot Act BS first with certain provisions along the same lines.... Still, it's a race to the bottom and whether we in the US will get there first or someone else won't matter as we're all screwed. We won't know until we hit he bottom and by then it will be too late.

Re: I vote for "can't resist grabbing everything"
Well.. there's always the advertising angle..."I see you're wearing XXX shoes. Y store is having a sale, want to stop by on the way to the pub? The waiting fee will be nominal for this." And so it goes... profit from the ad, profit from additional charges.
Facebook, Microsoft, Twitter and YouTube team to ID terror content
Re: Labour Supporters, Peace and Animal Rights Protestors ...
The best defense against terrorism is more liberty and better education, not more censorship.
I quite agree however the concept of :"better education" is root of the problem. Since the 80's or there about, in the US, critical thinking isn't taught. The kids learn to believe what they are taught by the schools, the parents, and the churches. They don't get the opportunity to learn or how-to-learn.
Teach critical thinking and liberty and censorship will take care of itself. Of course, the powers that be, both political and business, don't want you to think for yourself. They want you to do what you are told.
Wannabe Cali governor gives up against beach-blocking billionaire VC
It's only been recently that asshats have been buying up land and shutting down access to the beaches. Before that, access was usually freely given and everyone respected each other. I guess having money means "I get my way and you can go f*** yourself".
Most states have laws that if the public has been using the land for access to public property unfettered, then they can continue using it and the landowner is up the proverbial creek. I don't know if California has that kind of law or not.

Re: Iowa is "empty"?
So, sorry if you have a beef against the state of Iowa.
One of the big beefs about Iowa is that being the first primary/caucus/etc. it's sets the tone for the for the other states. Some candidates drop out after they've done their thing. It would probably be a better system if all states held their primaries on the same day. Make the candidates speak for the country instead of pandering to the first few primaries.
Re: Elector allocations
particularly with the statewide winner taking all the State's electoral votes.
And perhaps that's where the reform needs to be. The two state-wide vote on who won the state. The rest vote based on who won their district. Not sure if this would make a difference though but it might encourage voters that their district has a say in the election.
Take that, creationists: Boffins witness birth of new species in the lab
The saddest part in this is that a larger and larger segment of society has not been taught or has objected to the concept of "critical thinking". It would seem that with the way the Religious Right has been blossoming that the US could be headed (or maybe we're there and don't know it yet) towards a Christian-based type of fanaticism similar to the Islamic types.
