Zilog reveals very, very distant heir to the Z80 empire

Seagate births 8TB triplets and a 2TB mobile nipper

CatoTheCat

Re: Don't care

Amen to that. 4x 3TB drives, all replaced at least once. The last one that came back from the Dutch repair centre lasted a single week. Switched to WD and not a problem since (6months).

Re: Seagate 3TB

Same here. Finally had to bite the bullet and replace all drives with WD Greens.

I won't buy Seagate again for a long time.

See me after class.

"Out of the box the EX4 is set up in a standard RAID 5 array. In the case of the reviewed 8TB model, that meant 6TB of usable space was available, as the fourth drive is used for parity, should there be a single drive failure"

RAID-4 has a dedicated parity disk.

RAID-5 is distributed parity whereby parity bits are striped across all drives.

Thanks - I have managed to get a Seagate RMA, so all is good. Apart from having 3 Seagate drives holding my data.

CatoTheCat

Bought 3x 3TB Seagate ST3000DM001 in Sept 2012. All three failed within 12 months and were replaced under warranty. 2 of the replacements have now failed and as the warranty is only honoured from the original purchase date they are now just expensive bricks. £200 I could have just set fire to and saved some time.
