Even in Blighty, "of" is replacing "have" and "loose" replacing "lose".

That would involve engaging brain in gear.

But to be fair, what if the same happens in other areas Walter or other drivers are not aware of. So in that context Walter is right to raise the alarm.

If you can afford to waste money on an overpriced TESLA, you can afford the extra for the self drive option.

Life began after meteorites splashed into warm ponds of water, say astronomers

smartermind

Re: Why highlight meteorites?

"Life began after meteorites splashed into warm ponds"...

That is not science, but biased clickbait. The headline screams the role of "scary", sensational, meteorites rather than cosmic dust. Science is impartial, unbiased, fact and evidence based and not sensationalist... until science manages to clone dinosaurs!

Contractors don't get paid at any time they are not "employed", including when they are asleep. It's their own choice to contract. Not the norm. Most people are employed or on zero hours contracts.

Sellout.

As an athiest, it is also a sell out. Not that it would matter to an athiest what happens to their body after "the computer stops working".

Waste of resources

If you were serious, that would be a waste of earth's resources. There's only a finite amount of carbon on Earth and we should preserve it all and not waste it on folly grand gestures.

Lack of moving parts

Would't the spacecraft need moving parts to suck in the air in the depleted atmosphere?

Also wouldn't the drag in even a depleted atmosphere negate the acceleration from the ionized air?

Don't panic... but our fragile world is drifting away from the Sun

smartermind

Climate change not global warming.

True, if "global warming" was a thing, but, as it's actually climate change, with weather extremes at both ends, the joke must fall flat.

Also the Earth can be further away from the Sun and hotter, just as Venus is hotter than Mercury, but is further from the Sun.

NASA says New Horizons' next stop might have a moon

smartermind

Re: Not again...

The moon has a moon: it's called the Earth. The Earth orbits the moon just like the moon orbits the Earth.

smartermind

Re: Not again...

The Intelligent life cigar-cum-turd-shaped intergalactic asteroid-cum-spaceship hurtling through the solar system doesn't, yet, have a "moon".

You are right this is just one rock with a tiny pebble orbiting it. Calling it a "moon" is ridiculous more so than calling Pluto a planet.

Re: Puzzled

Anonymous Coward, why would the North pole of the moon be heavily monitored? What secrets does it hold? Or are you just confusing the Lunar North pole with the Earth's North Pole? It's obvious why NASA (ie the USA) would want to monitor the Earth's North Pole, but not so obvious why the interest in the Moon's north pole (other than to track the Indian Lunar orbiter).

Re: Can NASA read a map?

Even a triangle with a 0.1 degree angle is still a triangle. It might not be much on a map, but may be significant on the ground. Those three locations (the centre points of the two states and the "largish" city) do not form a straight line.

smartermind

Re: Large Satellites?

Or isn't the Earth a body that orbits the Moon? Just like two masses of whatever size have equal gravitational attraction, so two bodies in close proximity equally orbit each other. Because we earthlings have a geocentric viewpoint, we like to think the moon orbits the Earth but in fact they orbit each other and the Sun in a spiral corkscrew pattern. Likewise the planets orbit the Sun and together the bodies in the solar system orbit the Milky way in a corkscrew fashion.

So, why shouldn't the Moon be classified as a co-planet!

Boffins link ALIEN STRUCTURE ON VENUS to Solar System's biggest ever grav wave

smartermind

By the time the probe gets there, the "aliens" will have scampered off to Alpha Centauri or where-ever they came from.

Besides, the probe will be fried within minutes in the sulphuric acid atmosphere of Venus as the Soviets found out when they sent their probes.

smartermind

Re: Click baity headline is click bait

By that definition, anything extra-terrestrial would be alien, making the term redundant in this context. The whole planet Venus is alien. The word "Alien" in the clickbait headline is capitalised making it into a noun suggestive of "living aliens" rather than an entity.

UK smart meters arrive in 2020. Hackers have ALREADY found a flaw

smartermind

paranoid or what?

Talk about being paranoid. Currently you report your meter reading by telephone or online. Occasionally a meter reader will call but as someone else pointed out it is invariably ignored and an estimated reading used. So what's to stop you from under-reporting your meter readings when you phone in? Nothing. The actual meter itself will still measure actual usage or is it being suggested that these are hackable as well? Somehow I doubt it.

Re: So much for that idea

The Earth is not "waiting to kill humanity"

Your daft idea itself suggests an Anthropocentric Earth. The Earth couldn't "careless" whether humanity exists or not... it will just go blindly on. If coincidentally a supervolcano erupts, then humans may die, but the earth is not gunning for this to happen.

Boffins: On my command, unleash REMOTE CONTROL BULL SPERM

Additionally as foreign proteins they would be attacked and destroyed by the body's immune system. So only male wankers could use this as a remedy!

The other problem with human sperm is that they have a very short lifespan.

Re: Who to truly believe

There is no evidence that what you say about cancer and deaths is correct. Firstly 100 years ago they didn't have the resources to detect cancers and they were under reported. Secondly the general death rate was much higher so people died before the effects of cancer kicked in. Thirdly the population was smaller so fewer people died from cancers. Finally as you don't believe in the concept of time, today's deaths are yesterday's deaths! 1 in 2 implies that 50% of deaths are due to cancer! Absolute nonsense! Anyway, science is not killing anyone, your lunacy is!

As for this nonsense about the "frequency of the planet", what dope are you on? Or rather what planet are you on?
