Thanks, Obama: NSA to stream raw intelligence into FBI, DEA and pals

TAJW

Re: Does not apply to Israel

And you know this how? Having worked for those agencies, I think it highly unlikely. There are very specific rules about what can and can't be shared with foreign governments.

TAJW

Transparency

Obama said his would be the most transparent administration ever. He just didn't say the transparency would all be from the citizens, not him.

Stop us if you've heard this one before: Seamen spread over California

TAJW

Recon

I would say with the small size of these, there would be little benefit in weaponizing them. As a recon device, having a swarm of them spread over a large area looking for movement or metal, they could be invaluable in a tactical environment, which I believe is supported by the way they were deployed. Additionally, they could have safety devices that burn the key chips in the devices when reach a low power state, meaning they couldn't be reused for the same purpose by an enemy.

Re: What's so wrong about a private email server?

Perhaps you missed the part where her email server, on which she had sent classified documents, in direct violation of the law, was compromised. That is what is wrong with a personal email server. It's also what is wrong with sending classified documents through public email and not via secure means. Which pretty much shows you her lack of technical skill and basic understanding, or, worse yet, her lack of concern with doing it.

Either scenario is pretty bad and would have put anyone else....well, maybe anyone not a liberal... in jail for many years.

Russian hackers got Trump elected? Yeah, let's take a close look at that, says Obama

TAJW

Re: Where's the satire?

Actually, the U.S. is not a Democracy, but a Constitutional Republic. As to knuckle dragging ... here in the U.S. folks have a right to say what they want, and have a say in who manages the country and what taxes we pay.

We had a tea party in the Boston harbor a long time ago to establish exactly how we felt about that. Then kicked some butts to make it stick.

:)

TAJW

Re: Oh look, a (Russian) Squirrel !

No wrongdoing found? You are somewhat confused. The FBI said they would not suggest prosecution, but certainly there was wrong doing found. Classified emails being sent by unsecure means is NOT legal. Denial will not make your desire true.

TAJW

Hmm ... Donald Trump attacking Union Leaders? I think they said some particularly nasty stuff about him .. several times .. before he finally retaliated with a comment that basically said the union leader wasn't doing his job in taking care of the union members, which is pretty much the deal for most unions in the U.S. The unions are all about making money for the union leaders, not so much the members.

I agree that often Donald Trump tweets aggressively, but in this case, it was hardly Trump attacking the union leader....it was the other way around. And why, when Trump was trying to protect union jobs? What in the heck was Jones thinking?

I think he was just miffed that all the money they spent on the Clinton campaign just went up in smoke. He would be better off working into the new paradigm and supporting Trump in every way he can.

Malwarebytes and Security Essentials are always popping up warnings, blocking sites and removing junk from her clicking on anything and everything. User training is probably the most useful thing we can do for security, but there are folks out there that will *NEVER* learn.

TAJW

Re: Trump should not be on the ballot paper

Yes, accepting the result of an election is a fundamental tenet of Democracy.

But when a potential candidate calls you "Deplorable", unAmerican and "Irredeemable", while her surrogates refer to you as "Mentally Deficient", "Terrorists", "Extortionists", "Saboteurs", "Anarchists", "Squealing Political Pigs", "Arsonists" and "Murderers", I feel no loyalty to them as they have no respect for me. As a Veteran, who served his country, a patriot who has believed in his country, I am shamed and disgusted by Hillary Clinton. Her antics with the personal email server and treating classified material so cavalierly, destroying data after a Congressional subpoena demanded it, complete disregard for those working people who protected her and served America cause me to have no respect for her.

No, I'm sorry. I do not have nor will ever have any respect for Hillary Clinton, and if she is elected, I'm sure she will ignore the law, just as Barack Obama has, despite them taking an oath of office to support and defend the Constitution, and faithfully execute the Office of President. As President, Obama's primary job is to enforce the law, yet he has chosen to only enforce those he wanted to, not what was put in place by those elected to do so. He also attempted to rewrite laws with Executive Orders, and I fully expect Clinton to do the same.

And yet, we are expected to support her. She doesn't respect us, demeans us, ignores our wishes as voters and citizens, yet she desires our support.

No ... not from me.

And if you don't like that, tough.

Re: Democracy...?

If you truly believe your drivel, I'm sad for you. Clinton will be as damaging to the U.S. as Obama, if not more. Of course, I anticipate your denial that Obama is responsible for: the huge increase in national debt, refusal to sign any legislation proposals by Congress, refusing to uphold laws (weed, illegal aliens, sanctuary cities, for example, as is his job as President), releasing criminals into the population, the huge steaming pile of crap that is Obamacare, and several other ludicrous socialist, PC, leftist pieces of garbage that he and his cronies have foisted off on citizens. It's the leftist way to chastise others for not believing and acting exactly as they do, despite their claim of advocating diversity.

Have a nice life, just live it elsewhere.

TAJW

Re: Democracy...?

sabroni,

Your statement that '...the revelations so far have hardly been earth shattering..' shows you are already in the bag for the Dems, or at least vehemently against the Repubs. So many on the left make statements carefully crafted to be deniable when confronted on them, but are clear implications when made. I suppose you think no one who doesn't actively agree with you isn't smart enough to understand the difference.

Sad, really. The left seems to believe it's own propaganda, especially that they are smarter than everyone else. The truth, of course, is everyone else is laughing at them.

Re: rolleyes

The problem is, this administration specifically (as have others) implement these type of things, taking a little bit of ground here and there, then a little more, and pretty soon the area impacted is quite large. While it happened, our focus was elsewhere, on 'bigger' issues that the media told us were important. Many things are important, and the government influence is broad because they have so many people working on so many things, and can keep the pressure on endlessly.

We the people are seriously under attack by the elitists 'who know what we need better than we do'.

Sexism isn't getting better in Silicon Valley, it's getting worse

TAJW

My personal opinion, as one of those who graduated and became involved with computers in the mid seventies is that those of my age group were trained to be polite and respectful of women. We have since been told that to do that was sexist (it has not changed the fact that I continue to be respectful to women) but the younger generation has grown up with the idea that everyone, women included, are 'just one of the guys' With the pretty disrespectful and obnoxious way younger people treat each other today, this behavior is to be expected. I abhor it, disagree with it, and would like to stamp it out, but the fact remains, the vocal majority of self indulgent, obnoxious brats that are entering the workforce today respect nothing and no one. They are self centered, self indulgent and care little for the other person's feelings, man or woman, except that they revel in the ability to anger or hurt them.

Before I get flamed, yes, there are some decent younger people who don't act that way, but they are much, much rarer than 40 years ago, and getting progressively rarer all the time.

US taxmen borked in computer cockup riddle

TAJW

Re: Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

An added insult is that if you overpay on estimated taxes, you have to report the overpayment (conveniently provided to you on a form 1099-G) in the NEXT tax year, you may have to claim it as additional income and pay tax on it.

We need a flat tax system. It's easy, first 10K free, everything over that taxed at the same rate. No exceptions for home ownership, multiple kids or education loans. If you do those things, it's on you. The rest of us don't need to support your wants. Why do people find that so hard to understand?

IRS 'inadvertently' wiped hard drive Microsoft demanded in audit row

TAJW

And the incompetence of the IRS is fully on display again. Worse yet, they, and other government agencies, are allowed to act this way with impunity, yet the citizens get taken to task for the slightest infraction. I believe Microsoft should win this case by default, and all those involved on the government side should be summarily fired and lose their pensions. After a few such actions, perhaps then government agencies would start to act responsibly.

Just maybe.

What really bothers me is what data will end up in these (and other vendor) datacenters. As we push our personal and company private data out to the Cloud (hosted by a third party) despite whatever promises are in contracts we sign, I would bet large amounts of money that our data will end up in places we don't want it to.

Even if we sign a contract with a SaaS vendor who holds our data and says it will *NEVER* be hosted outside the borders of our country, chances are they are contracting with someone else to do the actual hosting, and sooner or later, whether as an operational site or a backup, our private data will end up sitting in data centers in third world countries that do not have agreements for data protection with us, and would be meaningless even if they did.

Re: CRT Monitors...

Tim99, I had a similar problem. I was at a facility that was moving offices, and had contracted with a moving company to do so. During the move, I opened my center drawer and took a few items that I owned personally, along with pictures from the top of the desk. I put them in a small (very small, about big enough to carry your lunch in) and walked down the hall to my new office. Halfway there one of the workmen stopped me and asked me just what in the hell I thought I was doing. Seems I was violating some contractual thing, and there were Union people on the job. I had to take my box back to my old office, where he put it on a two wheeler and smugly rolled it down to my new office.

Guess he showed me.

Apple slings bug-fixed iOS 9.0.1 at fanbois, PIN bypass hole still open

TAJW

I for one am a user, and not a fanboi, by any means. I was given an iPhone by my company as it their standard. I have to use it to access certain company functions and company email.

I dislike a lot of what Apple does, often they make things difficult for the users. For instance, this upgrade to the iPhone...after the software is downloaded and installed, the iPhone reboots, you have enter ALL your passwords again, several times, all your apps have to be downloaded and reinstalled. It took over 24 hours for everything to be back up and running. Many of the apps just sat and said 'waiting'. With my Android, it took a few seconds to download the new update, a reboot, and everything is back online in just a few seconds. Somehow, Apple just can't seem to manage that.

As far as the fanbois comments here, it is absolutely hilarious that they will brook no negative comments about Apple, but are gleeful when anything is said about the competition. You fanbois really need to take a step back. If something is a load of cr*p, it's a load of cr*p, no matter who makes it.

Techs were told to swap the motherboard if customer who just bought an expensive upgrade was watching so they would feel like they were getting value for their money. They would likely be piqued if you just flipped a single DIP switch and suddenly the upgrade worked.
