UK banking was struck by one IT fail every day for most of 2018

Crisp

Re: Can't spend too much getting IT right ...

Why would you want to spend money on getting IT right?

It's not going to cost the company that much in lost business is it?

btw, how much is Talk Talk worth now?

Ah, this military GPS system looks shoddy but expensive. Shall we try to break it?

Does anyone know the Betamax - VHS conversion ratio?

Age checks for online pr0n? I've never heard of it but it sounds like a good idea – survey

Crisp

It all depends on how you ask the question...

Ask most people, "Do you want to keep children away from online porn?" And most people will answer yes.

Ask most people, "Do you want the government monitoring your porn viewing habits?" And most people will answer no.

You just ask the right question to get the survey results you want.

Possibly. But I'd imagine the mode of that data is something like "Password12345!" and shared by around a third of the accounts.

The lighter side of HMRC: We want your money, but we also want to make you laugh

Crisp

If we taxed the rich properly

Then we wouldn't need to tax the poor and then spend all that money in administration topping up their wages with universal credit.

If you're going to tax the poorest and then give it back to them, why not just not take it in the first place?

They did take immediate action! They very quickly applied a sticking plaster to the gaping wound.

Taking immediate action is not the same as fixing the bloody problem.

Re: How do they stop the helium from leaking out?

That's pretty interesting stuff.

Have an upvote!

Crisp

How do they stop the helium from leaking out?

From what I understand it's very hard to keep tiny gas atoms like helium in one place. Apparently one of the problems with transporting hydrogen is that those tiny little atoms try and migrate through things. Like the walls of the pipe.

Excuse me, sir. You can't store your things there. Those 7 gigabytes are reserved for Windows 10

Re: EMP gun?

There are two problems with this :

1. We don't have any EMP guns.

2. We don't have any EMP guns.

Now I realise that technically speaking that's only one flaw but I thought that it was such a big one that it was worth mentioning twice.

Re: Poor emotion driven article

You benefit from education, healthcare, infrastructure, and the enforcement of rules and regulations designed for your comfort and protection. You also enjoy the protection of the police from crime and the protection of the armed forces. You benefit from the administration of licences and passports.

You benefit from the continued stability that all this provides. You wouldn't be able to enjoy making as much money as you do without a vast web of support.

Why shouldn't you pay for it? And if you happen to find yourself as one of the above average individuals that can contribute more because of the support you get, why shouldn't society claim back on its investment?
