Damn you autocomplete!
That was supposed to be "throes" not "throws"!

Only cultured muscle cells? Even they admit it it only tastes "acceptable".
Real meat contains fat, muscle, connective tissue, nerve, blood vessel, blood cells of various types, plus other things that make up a living organism.
Just muscle cells alone won't have much flavor or nutrition.
Sitting at the desk in the office, IM, e-mail, voip, and visual chat on the computer, a cellphone for when you're away from the desk. Office phones have become a bit redundant these days.
*But*, a big, important looking phone covered with bells and whistles is still a status symbol among office types, even if it's rarely used.
Throw away your perfectly good TVs and monitors and buy a new one every year! We're desperate here! We've tried 3D, higher DPI, added tons of bells and whistles, bent the screens, now we're throwing in a touchscreen and computer for twice the price!
C'mon people! We're running out of gimmicks here!
... Our CEOs need bonuses! Won't you think of the CEOs?

(Ahem enough jocularity), How about we call a spade a spade, and just call them Gimmick Screens?
Or, they could just compare his digital copies to the originals he copied, the "white noise" would stand out like a sore thumb, and while decrypting it (or even proving it *was* encrypted data would be problematic, just it's existence would flag an "AHA! We were right all along!" reaction.
"How can they know that there is no encrypted source code in those image files?"
Because they most likely looked? More than once?
Remember, this was a case trumpeted from the rooftops and a pet case of a congressman. Don't bet that they didn't go over everything with a fine toothed comb, trying to find anything, anything at all that wouldn't leave them looking like a bunch of chumps.
Shows how squeaky clean he was that the best face saving move they could make was huff, "Well, since you were leaving anyway, Get out and stay out!"
Doesn't matter about the milling machine, anyone determined enough could just use a drill, files, a dremel, or even an exacto knife set and carve their own from ABS stock. Voila! Xray proof pistol. (I wouldn't fire it, though.)
It's not like a gun is some super-sophisticated piece of arcane machinery, people have been cobbling together homemade firearms since gunpowder was introduced to the western world from Asia. (just google "zip gun", "pipe gun" or "prison gun" to see a world of home made ordinance.)
Imagine if it was always this way, in the early days of modern tech companies:
Google Could have been bought out by Yahoo!, or AltaVista
MS by Commodore, or Atari
Amazon by Yahoo! or Ask Jeeves
Or, Hell, LinusTorvalds to IBM or SGI!
Today we'd be using a web barely enhanced from what we had in the late eighties, good or bad, you decide.
"The customers for a $100 no-brand Android device aren't in the market for an iPad, or a Win8 tablet, or an Asus Transformer."
Right, they're in the market for a cheap portable that little Timmy and Suzy can use for school and play.
And that's what should be worrying the Hell out of MS and Apple, an entire generation growing up on Android. Last week I installed F-droid on my "no name" netbook.
Who told me about it? A twelve year old running it on his! He also had hacked it to run Google Play, gave me the warm fuzzies for the future.
"No Name" Androids are the new generation's Acorns and Commodores.
sarcasm/It's about time the government took action and did something about these gangs of immoral toddlers roaming the streets with their porn-pads, ganging up around wifi hotspots, viewing porn and having orgies in the streets, outrageing decent moral adults! Have they no shame? Have they no parents?
I say round the ankle biting perverts up and put them in workhouses where they belong, and get British industry back on its feet!
GAWD SAVE THE QUEEN! /sarcasm
Flash a few roms, now the AC reports it only runs 15 minutes a day, the lights all report that they only come on long enough to flash "peek-a-boo" in morse code once a day, the fridge reports that it maintains room temperature, and the stove reports that it's never in use.
(OK, nothing so blatant, but you get the idea.)
Unfortunately, if global warming is correct, England can expect more of the same, and worse!
Deep ocean currents have continued climbing while the air temperatures have stalled. This has lead to a slowdown in ocean currents, like the Gulf stream, which keeps England warm.*
Worse, with the moderating effects diminished, the weather becomes more severe as more heat is left to be carried to the poles from the tropics via atmosphere.
Net effect: England gets colder, with more storms as global temperatures rise.
*England is at the same latitude as Siberia, without the Gulf stream, it'd have the same temperatures.
I'm not as old as you, but in my lifetime, I've seen Summer temperatures change from highs in the hundreds (f) being rare heat waves to normal highs for weeks; alligators, which only lived in states south of here, have established populations here now to the point that they're common roadkill in the coastal area. And yes, the palm trees that once only existed far south of here, now flourish, while some once common trees have virtually vanished.
Global warming may not be a thing, but in regional warming in southern New England states is definitely real.
All you have to do to sell a PC Is:
Make it well, nobody wants a noisy, flimsy piece of crap.
Make it attractive. Nobody wants it if it looks like crap, and that includes gaudy, blinged out cases as well as dull, "we're all clones" boxes.
Make it accessible. If I can't find it, I can't buy it, now, can I?
This goes for both online and traditional outlets. If I have to wander a maze of webpages on your site just find it, fuck it, I'll go elsewhere, but if your closest retail outlit is only in select major metropolis' it won't be there.
Make it affordable. No, I don't mean cheap, I mean make it at least appear to be value for the money spent. I'll pay a reasonable premium for a quality machine.
Now see? That's not so hard!
Steve Jobs figured it out... Hell! Even I can figure it out, why can't you? What? Bottom line? Haven't you noticed yet that if you're only aiming for the bottom, you'll get there?
OK, I'm done ranting now... for now.
Not a fan of either Apple or MS, but I agree with you that at least Apple knows the difference between computers and tablets.
But... I can see where it'd make sense for them (to them) to use ARM on their computers, runs cooler, longer battery life, cheaper, and more control over processor design than Intel's offerings.
Nobody around here got the memo. The stores couldn't keep'em in stock over the christmas season.
Of course, these are running unsanctioned Android ICS, so fly under the radar.
Hell, I bought one, and guess what? Using it for this post.
A word to MS, ICS does just fine with a wireless mouse and keyboard, no touch screen needed, and it interfaces with my TV via HGMI perfectly!
What happens when Google decides to pull the plug on the service? After all, dead people don't click any ads.
Of course, my contingency plan is to have an AI bot hosted on the cloud take over my web life after I shuffle off this mortal coil*. Why should future generations be deprived of annoyance?
*May have already happened, I certainly wouldn't let it know that it's not me.
Of course a large number of bots are business machines, they're the last refuge of IE6, and many still depend on software using Active X.
The old "embrace, extend, extinguish" philosophy and lax security standards of the day at MS had the unfortunate repercussion of embracing malware writers and extending them a helpful hand. Too bad they are hard to extinguish easily.
When IBM dropped support for OS/2, there were enough businesses still using it that EcomStation licenced the rights to continue support under their name, and today it's still ticking away, almost forgotten, but still providing valuable infrastructure.
Surely, MS wouldn't turn down a revenue stream from licensing it to a third party willing to support XP?
