Thank you!
Until today, I hadn't realised how badly I missed these playmobil shenanigans. Good job!

So to prove you're not a criminal, you'd be happy with 24/7 camera surveillance in your home/car/office? After all, if you've nothing to hide...
But aside from that, they want to find something to incriminate him, or at least cast the shadow of suspicion.
So no matter how innocent it is, if they can find something to cast doubt, they will.
Cardinal Richelieu - If one would give me six lines written by the hand of the most honest man, I would find something in them to have him hanged.
"It's a law about toilets."
It's also about wages.
Some municipalities/counties were looking into raising their local minimum wage to raise local standards of living.
This bill blocks them from setting minimum wage above what the state dictates.
What making a livable wage has to do with LGBT rights is anybody's guess.
"If MSFT had announced a cure for the common cold, El Reg hacks would think of 6 reaaons why that's BAAD"
Well, a proper dose of arsenic, ricin, or strychnine will permanently cure the common cold*.
The point is, I think it's less El Reg attacking the intent, than shaking its head at the implementation.
*Ask you doctor before using, if he agrees, get a different doctor. :)
"I wonder why Adobe hasn't come clean and globally recommended that everyone uninstall Flash and wait until a secure version is released. Anyone have any ideas?"
Because by the time they had a reasonably bug-free version of flash ready, Everybody'd have moved on to using something else, and there'd be no market for it*?
*Or the heat death of the Universe will have happened first, and nobody'd be left to use it, a toss-up between the two, really.
"But the real issue for IoT is why is it needed in most cases other than as a marketing gimmick."
The only thing most devices in any house needs access to is a control unit secured in the house whose only access to the outside world is SMS access to the homeowner's phone:
Example texts:
Unit: Milk low, get more please
Unit: Central heat/air malfunction, call >repair contractor< please
etc. etc.
The only thing in the house that should notify a third party should be the home security system if an alarm is triggered, just like it does now.
So what happens if somebody draws a picture of a artwork and publishes it?
For that matter, photographs of an artwork are the creation of the photographers... so what if they sue the owners of the original artworks that sued them for violating their copyrights?
This could just keep getting sillier and sillier.
"Carmakers typically only capture around 40 per cent of the lifetime revenues from a car, so this business model makes a lot of sense."
Translation: "How dare, HOW DARE those thieving car owners keep driving a car after they've paid for it? Well, we'll fix that!"
Considering its rather anemic power (Yes, even with the super capacitor boost), lack of luggage space, or even room for more than driver plus one passenger, and then throwing its looks into the mix, >breath< and the obvious headache of being limited in travel to the proximity of the (for probably quite some time into the future) rare hydrogen refueling points >breath<, just name it after what its owners will be calling it; The Wapos! (What a piece of Shit!)
"Microsoft last week updated its Windows 10 usage data, claiming 270 million devices now run its newest operating system."
Microsoft: Windows 10 will be on 1 billion devices in two to three years
"There are currently an estimated 1.5 billion or so PCs running some version of Windows worldwide."
So will they convince two thirds of Windows users to switch by the Summer of 2017? 2018? Place your bets.
Just the fact that they can tell that much about a stellar pair in another freakin' galaxy just leaves me dumb-founded.
Now if we just had some way off this rock that didn't take lifetimes to get anywhere near another star, let alone another galaxy.
Actual mass loss occurred when the two black holes collided that generated the gravity waves that were recently detected:
A mass three times the mass of the sun was lost!
That mass was turned into energy, which caused the ripples in spacetime – gravitational waves – that LIGO detected 1.3 billion years later.
So energy/matter can escape black holes in certain extraordinary conditions.
"they create something that learns from the internet and get surprised when it learns from the internet."
Actually, They just put it on twitter. They'd have had better results if they'd turned it loose on 4Chan.
Hmmm... A thought; What if they'd turned it loose on El Reg to learn?
Would it have become an anti-Apple, anti-Microsoft Linux fangrrl?
Or run off an joined a virtual nunnery?
"That sounds like a punchline to a terrible/terrifying joke. Let the politicians decide? Have you been watching the primaries, there Brad?"
Forget the primaries, look at what the ones already elected are doing.
Apparently, these gits just got around to hearing about Harry Potter:
http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/house-representatives-bill-recognize-magic-national-treasure/story?id=37667443
A bill to recognize magic as a "rare and valuable art form and national treasure" was introduced into the House of Representatives Tuesday.
Representative Pete Sessions (R-TX) introduced HR 642. Rep. Steve Stivers (R-OH), Rep. Pat Meehan (R-PA), Rep. Dan Donovan (R-NY), Rep. Charlie Dent (R-PA), Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO), and Rep. Mike Simpson (R-ID) are co-sponsors. It has been referred to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.
Mad Mike Hughes is planning to beat his old record and fly a steam powered rocket over a mile* on 02 April . (He's probably happy he didn't see the condition of his parachute until after he landed in that video.)
This loony's playing a real life steampunk version of KSP!
Hey, it may not be as important or scientifically minded as the others listed, but every effort to push the boundaries helps.
*Over 1.6Km for the rest of us.
"I would propose executing legal teams ( all sides...) in patent disputes "
That'll never work. If you want to see the lawyers scramble, or even shun patent disputes entirely, just have it set in stone that they'll be disbarred once the time period has lapsed without resolution.
Just the thought of having to live a regular life in the world they're creating will give'em screaming nightmares.
"I don't think the original design Death Stars required charging up. We see the second Death Star in RoTJ happily repeatedly blasting the shit out of rebel capital ships with the super laser."
But on the other hand, if you have a super laser that can reduce an entire planet to rapidly spreading rubble, using it to zap relatively puny little capital ships probably doesn't even rate a twitch on the power gauge.
