You would be surprised on the ex Novell product front.
Filr, ZENworks, OES and GroupWise all doing well and receiving very regular new releases and updates.
I attend a couple of MicroFocus summits a year, and year on year there are more and more companies there.
NHS, Government, Education, Sky, automotive, finance and legal sectors are still big buyers.
GroupWise does all of this, as it has done for years. Runs on Windows and Linux, and even let's you use Outlook as front end of you really must.
Anyway back on topic, MS Sql Linux can only be a good thing for me. We have 3 MS SqL instances purely for hosting DB's for 3rd party applications. So to have the option of hosting these on our Linux server instead of having to fork out for yet more MS licenses is great.
indeed. Have been using mythtv and mythbuntu for years. As good as Kodi is, mythtv is a better back end. Up until 2 months ago I was lucky to get 1mb internet at home, so buying a fully (legally questionable) loaded box with Kodi or setting up my own mythtv server with multiple dvb-s and dvb-t cards was a no brainer.
that I put a stop to a proposal 18 months ago to migrate from Office 2003 and GroupWise 2014 to Office 365 with hosted Exchange. OK on paper it was cheaper (well the office 365 but was), when you look at total cost of ownership and sub fees over 4 years we were better off getting Office 2016 and commiting to GroupWise. Glad we did, as our data is still ours and there is only me to blame if GroupWise goes down which frankly it never does.
I feel your pain, bit I think you know the answer to your problem. Ditch Windows, it's insecure and riddled with malware.
My sons just started secondary school here in the UK, and I am pleased to learn that coding, raspberry pi's and Linux are all on the syllabus. Only issue is as he has been having Linux from birth he will probably know more than the teacher.
We run as many Linux servers as we can at work, and you won't find a windows terminal in our it department. All windows updates are rolled out to MS servers and workstations via ZenWorks patch management, so we don't get the painfully 2 day 300 update process on our Windows 7 boxes.
When you see the day to day stuff most people use PC for at home, browsing social media, reading news, sending email and producing documents and (poorly conceived) spreadsheets then you realise that they don't need windows for that. Linux could serve them well.
I've just had fttp installed at home 5 years after BT telling me they could never better the 1mb connection I was lucky to get twice a week on the aluminium lines serving our rural village. 5 months ago a fibre box appeared on the shared utility pole outside our house. We now have 190mb internet and phone with no copper or aluminum in sight. It transpires that in our area BT are going 18miles (via poles) from the city exchange in all directions. And it turns out to be a cheaper exercise than upgrading all the sub exchanges (our closest being 2miles away) and laying new copper lines to replace the aluminium.
I must admit I feel like I am living in 2100, now having fast internet and a telephone line I can use without hearing my neighbours conversations.
Ahh, the joy of having freedom of choice!
I use Cinnamon on work PC and laptop, XFCE on some machines with server based roles. Mate on my own laptop and Cinnamon on my home PC. Played with gnome 3 over the years but the default full screen single menu bar nonsense just doesn't play ball with my mind.
The point is Linux users have choice, unless it's Unity.

Since Micro focus acquired Novell we have seen new releases of GroupWise, GroupWise Mobility Service, Filr, ZenWorks, iPrint, Open Enterprise Server and more. The road map ahead already shows more release of all these products coming out over the next 3 years at least. So your opinion of MF being the place software goes to die does not ring true I am afraid.
What MF intends to do with this remains to be seen, but I am sure the subject of this latest acquisition will be raised at the next MF UK summit in London next week.

I've spent most of my working life either in house with law firms, or as a contractor.
WordPerfect was the WP of choice when I started out in the late 90's and continued to be so (along with SoftSolutions and GroupWise) well into the 00's.
Speak to any secretary from that era still working and they will still talk glowingly of WordPerfect, and I don't blame them! Thankfully I don't often have to delve into the nastiness that is Word, but when I do it's to try and tidy up horrific formatting errors etc.
The Y2K bug killed SoftSolutions but there are still plenty of us out there using GroupWise!
