Administrator PwC chops Maplin staff

AndGregor

I like going to Maplin for impulse purchases when I've been paid.

The stock variety has been that bad I've run out of things to buy over the last year. £500+ drones, over priced IOT tat and expensive security cameras don't float my boat (though I did buy a camera out of need to get my retail fix).

I even considered a gaming PC but I'd be ripped to shreds for paying them prices..

Sorry to see them go, the guys and girls in my local branch are knowledgeable and helpful, whoever chose the product line and pricing have done them no favours.

As a forty 'something' year old with four kids of my own. For a few minutes last night I genuinely felt like a kid again. Watching the car in space and then the side boosters landing.. just wow ! That alone is enough to convince me to buy one of his cars, when I can afford it.

Unless that is I want to tether for the two weeks I take the family on holiday. Is surprising how much data the kids can use on YouTube.

Not overly bothered about being lied to as I got a new shiny and there are ways around the tethering cap, if you feel so inclined.

The equation is also applicable to how many overseers there are on a single email chain where you are forced to provide a technical explanation to a simple issue and proposed fix.

The overall number of CC'ed participants in a 'project line', don't ask me, is directly proportional to the chances of something going awry in the first place and inversely proportional to the time it will take to fix any issue.

I pine for the good old days when project managers were promoted from a solid technical background and their face didn't blue screen when presented with understanding the difference between client and server.

Three's mobile data goes titsup in mysterious spreading outage

Been Off for Weeks

Am near Northampton, we have had practically no voice, text or data service for over 4 weeks now. Signal pings up, a couple of emails may drop in and then it goes again. Calls won't go through, texts usually take a couple of hours to go. I have no signal now.

Has been intermittent since Jan or Feb.. Many Saturdays, for some reason, we would have no signal and data has been up and down fairly regularly.

Three have given a token credit on our bill. Support rang and I couldn't hear them (another symptom) so they text me to say they tried to call but I couldn't be contacted., please ring them back..

Please fix my signal Three.. And prepare for another round of crediting my bill :)

There is a very good reason why the Super-hub will not allow you to forward a single port to more than one IP.

Just the fact that an official acting on 'our behalf' deems it ok to attempt to, in their eyes, silence a 9 year old really pisses me off. SuperSnub..

I have had the immense pleasure of hours on the phone to VMs script bot 'help' desk. The only time I got through to an actual technician was last week when I rang to cancel my contract. The reason being, as mentioned, I can't use my broadband for gaming or IP telephony. Router resets required almost daily.

For gaming, I get maybe one or two nights a week when I have enough time to thing about base jumping into helicopters, only to give up trying to play on-line. The IP phone, I need a lot to service one of my clients, ironically for support.

Line quality is actually better when tethered through my mobile.. Is enough to make me blub like a scolded child and am the butt of many jokes from colleagues, mostly asking if I am in a wind tunnel today..

After being talked into getting my problems fixed, support conceded that there was an 'issue' with the cable in a local cabinet, my broadband did improve later that day. A week later it was down for an hour or two, Work being carried out in my area, ok.. When it came back up I had much less latency and packet loss, woohoo, they actually fixed it...

I held my breath.. After two days, this is now fairly typical of my connection quality (Different day=same old story):

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ping/share/5028aeaab50b20e3b0a3fe7390446760-16-01-2012.html

Fail. From a loyal, since the good 'ol days of NTL, thoroughly fed up, fobbed off customer.. Find somebody in your area and run a broadband quality test before even thinking about signing up, it could be 1000MB, is still useless if you don't get any packets returned..

Hmm, I wonder if they will give me a free 56k modem redundancy option if I ask nicely..
