Contrast with the use of the -gate ending, borrowed from Watergate.
Don't you mean Watergate-gate ?
How else do you explain why the extremely high levels of CO2 identified tens of thousands of years ago, far higher than today's concentrations, did not result in an irreversible climate catastrophe?
CO2 is currently waaaaaaay higher than it's ever been in the last 800,000 years at least, as this handy little graph shows:
<img src="https://www.climate.gov/sites/default/files/paleo_CO2_2017_620.gif">
Of course CO2 isn't bad for the planet, Bob, me old chum!
As Pompeo (the guy aptly named after a city made extinct by a natural disaster) said - Think of all those new trade routes opening up in the arctic! oh, and all those lovely 'freedom fossel fuels" we (*cough* American big corporations) can mine!
And of course, all that extra water won't have an effect on sea levels, because the planet will be hotter, so more of it will evaporate!
Checkmate, rational people!
... and if BSD hadn't been caught up in legal hassle, linux probably wouldn't be a thing, and microsoft would have arguably been less succdssful.

I've been using tarsnap for years. https://www.tarsnap.com/bounty-winners.html :-)
They have mac and windows (cygwin & subsytem-for-linux) support too...
If anyone was to act to blasé about it, then why are they bothering using that companies services in the first place?
Remember, this isn't:
"oops, one of my backup providers has failed... Just as well I have another 2"
But more:
"One of my backup providers has intentionally deleted my files. Not only did I pay for this service, I now effectively have one less backup provider than my carefully worked out backup strategy recommends"
I thought there was always this IT motto that "for anything important, keep minimum three independent copies, minimum one off-site".So, I'm afraid, I feel no sympathy whatsoever with people who put all their eggs in one cloudy basket.
So people using a *paid* for service aren't allowed to complain when files of theirs are deleted?
Besides, they could even be following the rule you've quoted, but have just effectively lost their off-site backup.
"Upvoted because you didn't write "I hear the slavering of anti-trust lawyers chomping at the bit!"
Who could ever get that wrong after seeing the beating Scott Mills got? ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ltb_14CWqDA
If it has all those sensors and warnings, and (relating to the article - the steering wheel sensors can be made accurate) instead of just flashing up alerts, why not simply disable autopilot?
It may sound counter-productive, and I'm not suggesting it as some sort of punishment! Basically, drivers will know that removing your hands form the wheel would be the same as removing your hands from the wheel of a "dumb" car, and it just wouldn't happen.
We're winning! Beat that!
Seriously, though, I really hope there's more to this story than is mentioned here, but I'm not confident.
I hope PI or some other group take up his case.
It doesn't help community relations either, because you can bet your life some people will say "If he were Muslim, he'd not have had a problem." Cue Yaxley Robinson...
"Given how notoriously lax UK law is when it comes to allowing state employees to trawl through whatever personal data they fancy with few meaningful prior permissions required "
Don't worry. That's the EUs fault - they make all of our laws, afterall.
It will all be sunshine and rainbows when we leave those fascist socialist nazi commies, the EU. It's true. That guy down the pub said the bloke on the TV said it.
Paaaaaah. Don't forget, we still have our 'tump' card (pun intended) :
Brexit is still a thing, and people still take Farage, Johnson, and Rees-Mogg seriously. Some people even believe they are acting in the interests of the country!
Your lot just want to keep Mexico out - our lot are going for most of Europe.
You're no competition with your piddly trade wars and Alabama theocracy!
... and it presents a total deadend for people like me who don't or can't enable javascript.
Particularly annoying when I use "w3m" on the command line, which is quite often.
cloudflare have come up with some nifty things - they know their stuff - but in this case, their decision sucks monkeys balls, and if people knew what was going on, less of them would enable it.
Of course, Tina Turner warned us about this in 1985, but did we listen? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVPq-_t-ANwM
I'm more annoyed that they feel the need to preface an article about CPU's with stock images of a CPU.
It's annoying when an article about an angry customer has a stock image of a person being angry, or an article about a train gaffe has a generic stock picture of a train.
Then it becomes annoying when an article about someone doing something dodgy contains a picture of said dodgy person, yet we have to assume it's just taken from the "generic dodgy looking bloke" section.
Seriously, photos should be *specifically* related to a story, not just a photo of "something like it".
It's everywhere, and drives me potty, but not as potty as every new version of android becoming more and more dumbed down to appear like a crappy iphone, or website replacing detailed sections with blank space AND LARGER FONTS TO FILL IT. (looking at you, paypal)

"The tech industry-backed Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF) has been arguing against such a ban and pushing back against fears of surveillance for several years with a series of talking points."
That's like arms manufacturers lobbying for more wars to improve stability, "healthcare" insurance companies arguing that medicare for all would harm citizens, short sellers and foreign trade groups announcing that Brexit is a good thing, and Welsh men saying the economy would benefit with more sheep in Wales!
Remeber. Pompeo is clinically insane. He recently said that Trump was sent by God to save Israel from Iran.
The fact our government entertains meetings with such people shows how fucked BRexit has made us.
"It's a pity the UK has decided to leave Europe, the clout of Europe in the rest of the World is just what the US needs to put it back in its box."
Of course, that (and selling us Chlorinated chicken) is why the American administration loves brexit. They'd love nothing more than a weakened Europe - despite the fact it would be advantageous to Putin too
Here's what Pompeo said.
More, and video of him saying it (for the sceptics) at https://edition.cnn.com/2019/05/06/politics/pompeo-sea-ice-arctic-council/index.html
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Monday praised the Arctic region -- and its rapidly shrinking levels of sea ice -- for its economic opportunities, despite continued warnings about the catastrophic effects of climate change."The Arctic is at the forefront of opportunity and abundance," Pompeo said in remarks in Rovaniemi, Finland. "It houses 13 percent of the world's undiscovered oil, 30 percent of its undiscovered gas, an abundance of uranium, rare earth minerals, gold, diamonds, and millions of square miles of untapped resources, fisheries galore."
"Steady reductions in sea ice are opening new passageways and new opportunities for trade," he continued. "This could potentially slash the time it takes to travel between Asia and the West by as much as 20 days."
"Arctic sea lanes could become the 21st century Suez and Panama Canals," Pompeo remarked.
